Even though Wondy's Friday opening of $38.85M is line with projections that it'll earn ~$100M in its first weekend, I'm personally a bit disappointed because I was hoping that it would defy said projections and instead earn $150M in its first weekend. I thought that its positive critical reception coupled with its niche nature as a superhero film with a female lead would attract multitudes of women, even those who don't normally watch CBMs, and thus cause it to skyrocket way above predicted numbers. However, I still have hope that its positive critical reception and word of mouth will cause it to have good legs and drop at no more than 50% per weekend.

Out of F8's producer, writer, and director, I'd like to know which is the one that you guys think had the bulk of the influence in determining the film's quality? A lot of people seem to think that F8 is weaker than its three most recent predecessors and I'd like to know who you guys consider to be the cause.

The word "hate" doesn't even begging to describe my feelings for this movie.I guess you can go and watch it if you are a fan of the franchise but ultinately is by far the worst experience i had in a theater in the past year(and i was unlucky enough to catch Passengers on cinemas as well) so i definetly would not recommend it to anyone (maybe to the guy that kicked my dog for no reason the other night).Diesel is probably the worst actor ever, the old cast is doing absolutely nothing to even get you a tiny bit interested for any of the characters and the new cast is totally wasted.Dumb plot(but i expected that),dialogues that sound that were written by a grown-ass man stuck in his childhood and action sequences we have seen a million times over(even within this franchise). And it's not like this film tries to do anything new.It sets a story that you think will be the foundations of new story arcs but the film ultimately goes to explored territory and becomes the soulless and bombastic drama Universal is shoving down our throats ever since Fast 4 (seriously you can rent and play any previous film in the franchise and it will be like you watched it.Not only you will save money but you will also save yourself from the headache that follows after hearing countless car explotions that apparently the directors thinks is "filmmaking".)There is seriously nothing i liked about it.
Grade : F-uck it
Do you attribute what you perceive as the film's poor quality to its writer or director?

it was once in a lifetime build up. I don't think that predecessors were high quality. IM was but the rest was alright. But they pulled off the shared universe, hyped the team up for years and people showed up to see the novelty which was also a quality novelty. IM/Tony did become their Billion Dollar Man as all movies with him that followed crossed the mark (no Tony no billion).
As much as I like MoS and BvS, I wish that Warner Bros. would have followed suit.

The Disney brand doesn't do anything for Marvel. That castle doesn't show up in the beginning, does it?

It's amazing that Disney frequently puts out films that earn $1 billion. Incredible. It makes me wonder whether Avengers (2012) became the first film in the MCU to reach this milestone due to the power of Disney as a brand or due to the quality of its franchisal predecessors. What say y'all?

What's the deal with these stupid "smurfette" substitutes for the names of certain characters and properties? Very stupid.

How do you think the live-action Ghost in the Shell's poor performance has affected Scarlett Johansson psychologically and emotionally? Do you think that she has become upset or depressed? Do you think that she's cried at some point? Do you think that she feels embarrassed? I'm genuinely curious, because it seems that she was really looking to become the face of a new franchise to grow beyond her supporting role as Sexy Franchise-less Smurfette in the MCU. However, now that the live-action Whitewashed Smurfette has failed, not only has this particular opportunity been lost but also any others that she may have been able to get prior; her reputation as a box-office draw has probably been tarnished.

It seems like blockbuster films are huge financial risks that rarely earn a profit. Considering this, why do studios make them? Why not constrain their budgets as FOX did with D e a d p o o l? I, as a moviegoer, enjoy the huge spectacle of these big-budget flicks, but I don't understand why their financial-backers approve them.

124 million probably include those market, Mojo are slower in updating individual country result than the total.
Thanks to a weekend largely led by China, Paramount/DreamWorks/Reliance’s Ghost In The Shell emerged as the No. 1 film overseas this frame. In the Middle Kingdom, the Scarlett Johansson-starrer earned $21.4M — higher than the actress’ 2014 actioner Lucy which bowed to $20M there.
In the Japanese launch, Ghost came in with $3.2M. While the film has been decently received there, and the market is slow burn, neither it nor China are expected to fully bail Ghost out.
The international cume is now $92.8M and some industry estimates see it landing between $150M and $175M at the end of the day.

I'm rooting for this movie, because I'm a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell and enjoyed the movie.
Why is it that when I type "G i t S" with no spaces, the term "Whitewashed Smurfette" replaces it? WTF?

According to Box Office Mojo, Ghost in the Shell is currently sitting on $124,373,450 worldwide. However, China and Japan aren't listed among the foreign countries that have released their box office data. So, what do you guys think?

Indeed it is. It has the only true IMAX auditorium(s) in the city.

I understand the controversy but caught GitS in true IMAX 3D at Lincoln Center last night and visually it was a thing of majesty. One of the most enjoyable sensory experiences I've had in years. (Also thought Scar Jo was great).
LOL. I saw GitS at the same theater and in the same format last Sunday. I also enjoyed it.
