You also said you saw Apocalypse in theaters but "because it's Fox it doesn't count", yet Deadpool is Fox and you're counting that. So no, you weren't very careful
No. Just no. That was actually an error because I haven't seen Apocalypse. Seriously. I will edit that post to fix that. Thanks for inadvertently pointing that out.

Would definitely be interesting to see.
Indeed!

So does Deadpool yet you counted that with CW.
When I mentioned it with CW, I said, 'Movies based on Marvel characters,' which include both those in and not in the MCU; I was very careful with my words.

BOM has only 17 movies listed as opening on Tuesday since 1982 lol
Of those 17, 11 opened in December and had some pretty good legs as happens in that month.
The two biggest Tue openers are Amazing Spider-Man and Transformers 1 both of which opened the week of 4th of July.
Considering hiw big discount Tuesday has become, I wonder whether or not a blockbuster that is released on Tuesday in the Summer would earn more on its first Tuesday than its first Friday.

Uh, X Men is Marvel
I know that, but I spoke of it separately because the movie rights for X-Men belong to Fox. Duh!

Just out of curiosity, how do blockbusters that open on discount Tuesday fair on opening day and how do the subsequent days stack up?

I have Dr.Strange at 650ww 300 domestic 350 foreign.
Hopefully that 300 domestic trend could stick around.
I'm so sick of arguments over cbm fatigue it's a shame and thus year will prove there is no fatigue.
I haven't seen any movie based on Marvel characters (Deadpool, Civil War) in theaters this year...yet. Dr. Strange will be my first and only because it's so different from the others.
The only movies in the MCU...the only movie in the MCU that I've seen in theaters is Avengers (2012). All of the other ones I've seen on home video or television.
The only movies in the FOX-Men-CU that I've seen in theaters are X2 and X-Men: First Class.
However, so far I've seen every movie in the DCEU in theaters.
For some people, there are too many CBMs to spread their love for comic-book characters around, so they prioritize the ones that interest them the most. In other cases, they're just not interested in a particular property strongly enough to bother going to a theater.

I'm honestly being objective. Believe it or not, I'm actually a fan of the DCEU (despite it's flaws); look at my room as proof.

The feels like a stretch. it wont need to do much after this weekend and there is labor day weekend ahead. Lack of competition would ensure it gets close(biggest to not gross 300) if not beat 300m.
I don't think that R-rated comedies should be underestimated; consider what The Boss did to BvS during the latter's 3rd weekend and what Sausage Party did to Suicide Squad this past weekend.
This weekend, we have War Dogs, an R-rated film that's being advertised as a comedy; it could dethrone SS.

Gitesh Pandya @GiteshPandya $6.25M TUE for #SuicideSquad, up 25% from MON. $233.9M cume. Shd break $250M SAT & be at about $263M after 3rd wknd. $300M still possible.

Man of Steel had too much action and the zod fight was too long.
What's funny about that criticism is that the fight between Supes and Zod was actually quite short; it lasted about five minutes.

No, it's not. As August goes on, more and more schools start their business again. A 60% drop on a third Monday is decent. GOTG dropped 63% on its third Monday IIRC.
Oh, and good number for SP.
Am I missing something here? Yesterday was only SS' 2nd Monday?

I think Suicide Squad can match Guardians minus China.
Which seems like a fair and reasonable comparison.
How, when it's projected to earn less than GotG domestically?

Yes, I think so.
As more schools keep on opening, the weekdays will start to get weaker.
So GOTG dropped 54% on 1st Monday, 58.5% on the 2nd Monday and 63.1% on 3rd Monday.
SS dropped 56.5% on the 1st Monday. So 60-61% is likely for the 2nd Monday.
Damn.

60% drop will give SS ~5.2 on Monday
Mon 5.2 (-59.7%)
Tue 6.3 (+21.5%)
Wed 4.35 (-31%)
Thu 3.75 (-13%) [2nd Weekday 19.6]
Fri 6.1 (+63%)
Sat 8.3 (+36%)
Sun 6.0 (-28%) [3rd Weekend 20.4 (-53%)]
Mon-Sun = 19.6 + 20.4 = 40
Dom = 222.64 + 40 = ~262.64
-------
With a 55% drop from Mon-Sun of 40, the following Mon-Sun should add 18
for Dom of 262.6 + 18 = 280.6
The following Mon-Mon (Mon-Sun + Labor Day) should add 12-13 more
for Dom of 280.6 + 12.4 = 293
sub-300 is not likely in the end. 305 is more likely than 295.
Is a 60% drop for Monday likely?

The bias against this movie is real. It's so real that even its soundtrack is being attacked. Check out this New York Post article about it.

What's the 3rd weekend drop of SS going to be like?
50-55% (just throwing out a guess)
I've learned to expect the worst with the DCEU in terms of box office performance. So, I'm going to say 60-62%; I think that Sausage Party will take anothet bite out of its take and that War Dogs will take its own, bigger bite.
By the way, I actually like the DCEU, though I acknowledge that the theatrical cuts of BvS and SS are terrible.
Take a look at my room.

I've been saying for a while that GOTG2 is going to be like Dead Man's Chest to GOTG's COTBP.
What's the basis of your prediction?

SUICIDE SQUAD makes an estimated $43.77 second weekend, a 67.2% drop, for $222.87M to date.
#SuicideSquadDamn. Hopefully the actuals are higher. A flat 45M would be nice.

Rth is in a position to see the raw data as it comes in. That's as much as he prefers to be known about him. Baumer met him a couple of years ago in Toronto and I had the chance to meet him a little while back here in LA.
In other words, he's James Cameron. I understand.

He knows best. If he doesn't want to reveal what he does, we have to respect his wishes. We have to be really glad that we have somebody like him granting us favors which is truly available only to a select few in the world. Let's dwell on the numbers instead.
Understood, but I'm personally going to assume that he's James Cameron. Hey, @Rth, I love Terminator 2..You're the best, mate.

He is a gifted psychic.
If he's an industry insider, such as a box-office analyst, I don't see why it would be a big deal for him to reveal his profession. This leads me to believe that he's something much more grand: a celebrity - an actor, movie producer, or director. He could be Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Feige, or James Cameron. I suppose that he doesn't want to be spammed by fans.

I'd really like to know what Rth does for a living and subsequently how he gains this knowledge before us commoners. I've been told that he can't or won't divulge, but I'd like to know why.
