  1. Fantastic numbers for Shang-Chi, watching it tomorrow. I really hope it has amazing legs and studios start opening big movies again exclusively in theatres. Free Guy performance and now (hopefully) Shang-Chi prove that releasing the film on streaming platform same day as theatres is a really bad idea. Idk how it is in North America but in Europe, and I suspect Asia and South America, piracy is really a problem. Most of my friends wanted to watch Black Widow but watched it illegally for free, it's not a choice of theatres or 30 dollars on Disney+/ 15 dollars HBOmax, people see it as theatres or for free at home.

  2. I liked this trailer but at the same time I kinda expected more, they'll probably show Maguire and Garfield in the second trailer. Also, I did not get all the negativity surrounding this trailer and Strange's character. I think the trailer is intentionally cut to make it seem like that spell caused the multiverse but it could be a totally different thing in the movie. I mean we know that the multiverse is open in Loki's finale and that could be the reason Strange's spell fails or something, I would wait before we judge.

  3. I think people do want to go back to the movies but the weak numbers we are seeing are a combination of factors. First of all, delta variant is of course affecting the box office for people who maybe were ready to go back to theatres when vaccine was available but saw the increase in cases and decided to wait or watch it at home until more people are vaccinated. Next, almost all movies being released (except for Paramount and some Universal movies) are available at home so people are going to decide to not risk it and watch it safely. Piracy is really a problem everywhere and I am shocked that studios did not see it sooner. Almost all of my friends here in Spain wanted to watch Black Widow but watched it illegally at home when they saw that they could, not particularly because of COVID but because it is free and it wasn't an event movie like Infinity War or Endgame. Even myself, who I used to go to the movies once per week, have stopped going that much and so far I have only seen Raya, Cruella, A Quiet Place 2, and Black Widow, basically event movies for me that I thought could not be missed in theatres. The only way to be back to a "normal lifestyle" is to get vaccinated, so please if or when you get the chance don't hesitate and get vaccinated.

  4. I watched it this weekend and I really think this could have been one of my favourite MCU movies if not for that messy third act. The first two thirds of the movie were fantastic and I really liked the new characters and I thought the humor and the actions scenes were very organic and nice. However, I didn't need a flying evil base in the third act and that parachute fall on a Black Widow movie, specially when we already have characters like Captain Marvel or Iron Man which can easily include something like that in their movies. I really think a more basic but effective third act spectacle like Mission Impossible movies would have been better. Other than that the movie was good and Scarlett was fantastic but the real star for me was Florence Pugh, she stole every scene and I would even say it overshadowed Scarlett in her own movie. I really really want to see her again in an MCU movie.

  5. I thought 'Mortal Kombat' was pretty bad and I didn't particularly care for 'Demon Slayer' but these numbers bring a lot of hope to the box office and I'm glad they are performing well. My biggest concern now is that there are no big movies until 'Spiral' but after that big movies will come starting with 'A Quiet Place 2' and 'Cruella'. Maybe they should have moved one of them a couple of weeks up

  6. I watched this yesterday and I have to say that it was a pretty solid film. I quite liked it and the movie was very well made, however, it was also very predictable (yeah, even for a Disney film) and nothing really stood out except the amazing animation. I appreciated that they wanted to take it more seriously but I think it would have connected better with audiences if it would have been a musical. Having said this, it is another solid entry on the new Disney films and I am quite sad that it flopped at the Box Office, hope it explodes on Disney+ when it is available for free. I'm also sad that Disney and Pixar are releasing so many originals in 2020-2021 (Onward, Soul, Raya, Luca, Encanto) and that, for now, 3 of them got severely affected by the pandemic. I really hope Luca and Encanto do good cause I want them to keep making originals.

My ranking for the new Disney movies:

    1. Zootopia

    2. Wreck it Ralph

    3. Moana

    4. Tangled

    5. Frozen II

    6. Raya and the Last Dragon

    7. Frozen

    8. The Princess and the Frog

    9. Big Hero 6

    10. Ralph Breaks the Internet

  7. I've been following this series weekly and I have to say that it has been fantastic. Wanda has always been one of my favorite MCU character and I always felt she was way underused. Glad that is not the case anymore. This has been a lot different than what Marvel has done so far and, because of that, it has received a lot of indifference from many Marvel fans but I honestly loved it. Don't get me wrong, I love the typical Marvel formula and I will probably enjoy Falcon and the Winter Soldier a lot but it was refreshing to have this series. The weekly format has also been a huge factor for my enjoyment for this. Binging is nice but it doesn't really give you that feeling of having to rush to watch the episode and seeing that horrible "please stand by" at the end of each episode and then going to twitter/other webs to see the theories fans had was fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was the runtime, they are all too short!! I understood for the first 3 since they are "sitcoms" but the rest are too goddamn short. Really excited to see the finale and see how it ties to 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness' which are now, together with 'The Eternals', my most anticipated movies of this phase 4.

  8. I watched this yesterday, honestly couldn't tell if it was good or not because I did not understand a single thing, not only plot wise but the sound was too loud and the actor voices were not understandable at all. IDK if it is the way they edited the sound or smth but I could only understand 30-50% of the dialogue, yeah english is not my mother tongue but I tend to watch all movies in english and this has never happened to be before. Anyway, the plot I felt was too complicated to follow for the average moviegoer, when the movie finished everyone at the theatre was confused AF. Don't know how the legs for this will be but I feel it is too long for a rewatch for people who don't go to the cinema that much. By the way the theatre was absolutely packed (with corona rules obviously) and there was a line that went all the way outside the theatre for ticket purchase so yeah...cinemas are definitely back in Europe

Edit: Continuing with my last line, Mulan would have made so much money in Europe if they had released it theatrically. Everyone I talked to didn't know it was releasing on D+ and was planning to watch it in theatres.

We need to wait for Disney Spain to say something about Mulan because cinemas need movies and Padre proves that people are anxious to come back and we know well that Spain goes HAM for Disney movies. And PVOD in Spain doesn't work pretty well because piracy is still rampant (less than before thanks to streaming services) and prices are high. I've already went to cinemas like 15 times after lockdown was over with independent releases and re-releases and people are starting to come back. Yesterday, I went to see The Hunt at 10PM and it was pretty packed

Exactly, I would not be surprised if 'Padre no hay mas que uno 2' ends up grossing the same or even more than the first one despite COVID-19. I think 'Mulan' would do very well in Spain and theatres need movies like 'Mulan'. I have only been since lockdown in a drive in for 'Bloodshot' and 'Call of the Wild' and it was completely full.

Padre No Hay Más Que Uno 2 continues to smash crossing 3M€ and going up 20% compared to last Wednesday (when it grossed 460K). 10M is possible, even more

Excellent and very needed numbers. This further proves that people are willing to go back to cinemas if there are interesting movies. IMO Disney should release 'Mulan' in Spain and other countries in Europe and the world that cinemas are open. I haven't gone to the cinema yet but that is because none of the movies playing interested me. First time I'll be going is for 'Tenet' and I would go for 'Mulan' too.

Disney decision is even more shocking to me when you consider that 'Aladdin', 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Lion King' all did more than $22M in Spain, with the latter even doing more than $30M. Even 'Dumbo' did something like $14M

  11. I don't consider TROS numbers bad but they are pretty disappointing for what they could have been. The end of this Star Wars trilogy (after first one opened to $248,0m) and it should have done much better than what it is doing. The numbers are good and almost any blockbuster would dream to have them ($177m OW / $525-575m DOM / $1.05-1.15b WW). It is like Avengers: Endgame doing $200m OW / $500m DOM / $1.4b WW after Infinity War numbers and all the Infinity Saga or Deathly Hollows Part 2 doing something like $125m OW / $280m DOM / $950m WW after all the build up. Obviously those would not be flops for the studios and they would end up earning money back for them but they would be really disappointed for what they could have been. To me this feels like another Mockingjay-Part 1/2 situation (although both cases are because of different reasons), Hunger Games and Catching Fire were so huge that the finale doing only $281m DOM felt really sad.

  12. I really liked Frozen 2. I was never a huge fan of the first but I feel like they improved on this second one (the opposite thing happened with Ralph franchise). I didn't like the soundtrack at the beginning but the more I listen to it the more I like it (Into the Unknown is actually my least favorite). It deserves all the money is making. I think it will do around $125-140m OW / $450-480m DOM / $1.3b-1.5b WW which is pretty amazing when you consider the last one almost made $1.3b WW and it will be the 6th billion dollar movie  and the third highest for Disney of 2019 behind Lion King and Endgame (don't think The Rise of Skywalker has any chance of topping Frozen 2 WW).

Can't we just like a movie without wanting a sequel? Zootopia was so good because it was original, and while I loved it, I'm okay if we don't get a sequel to it, as WDAS will be able to focus on many more original films, like Zootopia was. It's okay to love something, but also not have a need to see it continued, and judging by recent slightly lackluster sequels from Pixar and WiR2, I'm not sure they'll be able to recapture the magic. Frozen 2 will be a test for me. If it disappoints me, I'm done with their sequels.

I usually would agree on this but Zootopia was my favourite recent WDAS movie and thanks to the world building they created and the amazing characters I would be interested in a sequel and I think it would have potential. For example I loved Wreck it Ralph but I did not think a sequel was necessary, same with Moana, Frozen, and Tangled, I liked them but I don't want to see a sequel (although I have to admit Frozen II trailer looks good). I thought Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 were really unnecessary and did not work for me but Incredibles 2 was a sequel I had been waiting since the first one was released and I think it worked. It is just a matter of sequel potentials and chances of improving/expanding on the original. Sequels to movies like Ratatouille or Up (two of my favourite Pixar movies), even if they were good, would feel unnecessary to me, sequels to Spider-Verse or Zootopia, even if they wouldn't match the original, wouldn't feel as unnecessary to me as the other two. Anyone can have different opinions on this obviously but this is how I see it.

  14. My bets for this D23 expo:

    - WDAS update with titles for movies on 2020 and 2021 and maybe (fingers crossed) a Zootopia 2 announcement.

    - Marvel Phase 4 update with release dates for Fantastic Four and Blade and more info on already announced films.

    - More information on Onward and Soul from Pixar and maybe future projects.

    - All Disney+ stuff (Lady and the Tramp and Mandalorian trailer, etc).

    - News on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and future movies.

but what I would really like would be for WDAS to confirm their first movie with an LGBT character as the main lead (one can dream).
