Absolutely. But it doesn't change one fact: Illumination makes shitty cartoons.
I really liked the first Despicable Me movie. The rest have ranged from merely entertaining to just plain bad.

The movie is doing dynamite numbers. Haters can hate but this will end up in top 5 most profitable movies of the year.
$900M is very doable it still hasn't been released in South Korea, Turkey, Italy, Greece and Japan. DM2 made almost $60M in those markets.

500 million worlwide should be the magic number for this movie.
It's also a perfectly respectable number for $150M movie.

Why America? Why you did this to me? We received The Godfather of our generation, one of the greatest trilogies of all time, and you guys choose to ignore it, karma is a bitch, you guys will never receive any quality franchise anymore.
Be happy you got a trilogy.

Wow it's holding up very well in Japan. $780-$800M WW is more than enough for a sequel. Although I think this would be a fitting end for a franchise they should end it with a profitable film. Disney has more than enough franchises they don't need this to survive at all.

$900M looks tough. It'll probably depend on China over performing or not.

What is the budget on this? It was first reported as $209M then 197 million euros which means around $225M, now I'm looking at BOM and Wikipedia as $180M.

The sleeper hits of the summer so far:
Baby Driver
47 Meters Down
The Big Sick
Everything, Everything

How is Mary and the Witch's Flower in terms of quality? Are the reviews good for it in Japan.

This has bomb written all over it oh well. I'll watch it just for Oprah's likely ridiculously campy performance.

Valerian might open to 5th place next week maybe 6th if DM3 holds really well and Valerian really underperforms.

Audiences during the 2000's were getting ripped off.
Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.
The Star Wars prequels.
Affleck's Daredevil.
Raimi's Spider-man
Everything is a hundred times better now.
Revenge of the Sith is underrated and better than Force Awakens. Daredevil is also underrated especially the director's cut. Spider Man 1 is top 20 best superhero movie and Spider Man 2 is top 10 at the very least.

Ugh at the Apes number and damn Spider-Man's drop.
-
$60M - 65M OW
$180M - $190M DOM
$450M - $500M OS
$630M - $690M WW
That's where things stand for War of the Planet of the Apes right now. Not bad.
-
There seems to be a disparity between regular critics and big ones. Metacritic score is only 48 but RT score is 79%.
-
Honestly feels like this will play out just like Cloud Atlas did. Mid 60s RT score with same criticisms about story but applauded for ambition. I can't wait to see it!

Apes is like Star trek Beyond of 2017 to me, both are 3rd movie in trilogy, have great reviews and represent non-CBM blockbuster in july of summer, and both tracking about the same OW or total....
Apes has overseas, Star Trek never had.

Spidey's back, honestly I'm fine with these numbers because this is basically the 2nd reboot. They soft rebooted the character in "Civil War". "TASM 2" did about 91 OW back in 14' so the MarvelIron Man/Downey Jr boost worked out if it comes in 115+. That would be roughly a 25 Million increase over 4 years. So the good news is Spidey Man "Homecoming" is posed to stop the trend of every Spiderman movie dropping domestically from it's predecessor:
1 Spider-Man Sony $403,706,375 3,876 $114,844,116 3,615 5/3/02 2 Spider-Man 2 Sony $373,585,825 4,166 $88,156,227 4,152 6/30/04 3 Spider-Man 3 Sony $336,530,303 4,324 $151,116,516 4,252 5/4/07 4 The Amazing Spider-Man Sony $262,030,663 4,318 $62,004,688 4,318 7/3/12 5 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Sony $202,853,933 4,324 $91,608,337 4,324 5/2/14 6 Spider-Man: Homecoming Sony $50,500,000 4,348 n/a 4,348 The goal should definitely be to outgross "TASM1" adjusted which would be 297. So I'm with everyone that 300 is a nice benchmark for a 3rd reboot. The irony of it all is that the original did 114 Million and broke the OW record 15 years ago. So "SMH" is the first time the franchise broke a 100 Million OW since 2002. I also think overseas should also help out with SMH. "Transformers" and "Pirates" fall from grace has been pretty interesting this summer. Overseas will save them but those domestic numbers are definitely is downward trend. "DM3" is doing pretty good, the Minions are just becoming so big in Pop Culture for kids.
"Wonder Woman" remains the comic book film to beat for not just the summer but the Year. "Baby Driver" felt like a cult like film when I saw the trailer, it's doing amazing honestly. "Cars 3" is just honestly "There", i mean I guess their whole thing is to keep the Cars toys and games merchandising machine going so I guess they succeeded but it wasn't a great Trilogy like "Toy Story". Lastly I got love for Tom but the "Mummy" reboot just didn't connect domestically. It's not even going to get "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" numbers. Can't wait to see what Apes does next week.
Lol Pirates is already a success while Transformers won't be.

also holy hell at this DM3 international number.
Massive $173M global wknd for
#DespicableMe3led by $66M opening in China, biggest ever for a toon. WW total now $447.6M going to $800M+.
$1B is doable it has very little animated competition.

Dayum. $1B is not out of the question. Especially with it over performing in China and holding decently well in U.S.

Black Panther will have a lack of direct competition to its advantage. I think that's certainly helped w/ Wonder Woman.
It has Pacific Rim 2 which will star another black actor.
