Yeah I remember her winning a Grammy over Lewis Capaldi whilst everyone with decent musical taste raised their eyebrows in disbelief. It was a USA based awards show afterall and it was controvesial at the time. I remember social media being shocked by that outcome.

Yeah she made 2 shit albums. Seriously I could write a top 10 hit these days. It's probably just a US thing, I think you lot like her more than the UK

Yep, the fact she and her brother made 2 albums in their bedroom means nothing when a) anyone can make an album in their bedroom these days and b) the 2 albums in question are total rubbish.

Can the Mods ditch the "Derrickson Drops Out" in the thread title?  It's giving me heart jolts every time my eyes go over it and think I'm reading "Raimi Drops Out."  😂

I wish Raimi would drop out and Derrickson back in. Raimi's a big step down (with the exception of Drag Me To Hell and Spider-Man 2 all his stuff since The Quick And The Dead has been terribly stodgy and lifeless).

I’ve been to the Circular Quay cinemas a few times when it was Dendy. Haven’t been since it changed to United Cinemas. It closed as Dendy at the end of February 2020.

Crap, I didn't know that! Ah well, the last time I went to Dendy Circular Quay it was to see Amelie.

“Those people” (the usual suspects) are claiming it’s something to do with Steve’s return in the film.

A reach. They’re just spouting whatever nonsense they can now. It’s an homage to 80’s romcoms, such as Heaven Can Wait, but that is over their heads.

Just a little nitpick: Heaven Can Wait is from 1978. But it's a good example - just like Steve, Warren Beatty's character comes back to life in another man's body.

I was deeply, deeply uncomfortable with the body-switching aspect of this, and that neither Diana nor Steve seemed as profoundly disturbed by that as they should have been?  It was played for laughs, but like...that's some guy's body they are using. He's someone's son, who they are taking away from his family and friends.  Not to mention the consent issues with the sex, like...all of that just really bothered me so much that it overshadowed a lot of the good things about Pine and Gadot's chemistry. It was just very icky for me.

This criticism has popped up a lot, and I think a lot of people are forgetting that WW84 is a homage to the films of 80s, which was THE decade for the magical body-swap genre.

I think Jenkins and Gadot should drop Cleopatra ASAP! That's a bomb waiting to blow up.

Yeah, Cleopatra and a gorgeous actress hasn't exactly been a successful combo at the movies. There was the 1944 flop Caesar and Cleopatra with Vivien Leigh which was the most expensive British film to date and, of course, the notorious Cleopatra with Elizabeth Taylor.

Anyway, terrific numbers for WW84. And I can't believe people were actually doubting that there'd be a 3rd film from Jenkins.

She would be perfect for Superman but it’s okay. We’ll get a snarky, formulaic JJ Abrams version that everyone is gonna LOVE.

    A Jenkins-directed Superman/WW team-up would blow my mind!

I was very impressed at the drama tone too. I cried more than once wtf I've never cried seeing a CBM lmao. And the score makes things even more dramatic, romantic and beautiful. It was risky and inventive seeing a CBM like this... and it was GOOD.

And can we praise Gal for making her best performance of her career? Her improvement from the first movie to this is clear.

You didn't cry during No Man's Land? Or Steve's sacrifice?

Anyway, this sounds great! Can't wait to sob!

    not necessarily

in the first film it was about her mother didn‘t want her fighting focused, especially that early.

This is sport, see also some similarity to Olympia.

I also think Diana is three years older in the flash-backs in this one (the actress playing young Diana is the same, in the first one she is listed as Diana (8), three years between the movies...), so some details might have changed regarding fighting too anyway.

Good points...I'll have to rewatch the first film to confirm exactly what Hippolyta was objecting to.
