Disney fucked up another fox film this year. Seems like the only financial and critical Fox hit this year is Ready or Not.

Why is Disney getting blamed for this getting divisive reactions? What exactly have they done thats affected any of the Fox movies released so far? Especially since they were all produced before the sale was final so Disney had little say in them. Plus the movie hasn’t even been released yet so we don’t know how it’ll do financially. If the movie had euphoric reactions, I’m sure you wouldn’t be praising Disney for it. I guess Disney is also responsible for Ford and Ferrari’s positive reactions then.

    limit the...audience's interest in

How is Disney limiting the audience’s interest in certain movies or even responsible for it if something like that is happening? It’s not like cultural shifts happen or general audiences gravitate towards different types of genres in entertainment every few decades or so. No no, that doesn’t happen at all. It’s all Disney magic at work making audiences lose interest in or dislike certain movies.

  3. Why should Disney be broken up because they have multiple currently popular IPs? They happened to release their heavy hitters this year, leading to a lopsided top 10. Owning Marvel, Star Wars, etc. isn’t what’s helped Disney, it’s allowing those substudios to make crowd pleasing movies. Other studios like WB have major IPs like Harry Potter, LOTR, DC, etc. If WB happened to release a bunch of movies in the same year from those IPs and they do great, would people also be calling for them to be broken up? Having multiple IPs isn’t the issue, Disney just decided to stack this year in preparation for Disney+. They don’t even release a lot of movies, they just released the ones they know will interest the GA. Not their fault and not something they should be punished for. Idk why people act like just because they personally don’t like the movies Disney makes, those movies shouldn’t be made.

    Waaaait.

New Mutants fills that Feb. 2022 date.

Haha. What would that be? A 4 year delay? To allow Marvel Studios to reshoot to include it in the MCU? Lol. At this point, I feel fans would prefer it be released on streaming than have to wait 2 more years for it.

How is Disney losing 130M on DP? Didn't Fox finance it and Disney simply distributed it? Not sure how financials work like that with a major acquisition like this, but I would have thought the purchase of Fox would have included all finished/semi-finished products, and everything those products make are just printed $ for Disney.

It seems that whatever losses Fox would’ve had if they remained independent are now Disney’s. Same with profit. Fox was in the red on Dark Phoenix and Fox = Disney now.

So The Farewell is looking to top out around $15M-$20M. Its PTA is slightly ahead of OUATIH despite the latter playing in roughly 9x the number of theaters. Further expansions are unlikely to do much except cannibalize existing locations. Still, it's a nice haul for a very summer unfriendly movie with no big name stars (Awkwafina is not a big name star, sorry). It's definitely worth seeing if you are tired of superheroes, sequels and spin-offs.

Not sure why you’re restricting the movie to those who don’t like certain types of movies. The Farewell should be and is worth seeing even if you like the “superheroes, sequels and spin-offs.”
