I'm sure someone's said it already, but...lol @ Angelina going from the failed Dark Universe to the most successful film franchise of all time.*
*IIRC
Lmao. I forgot that was a thing. Guessing most people have as well and those involved hope it stays that way. I guess I think of The Mummy 2017 as being a failed reboot, and not a 2nd attempt at starting a franchise after Dracula Untold...which I really liked.

My BP prediction was based on trailer views, which at the time were pretty pisd poor compared to other MCU movies.
Umm what?
QuoteWhile the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel and parent company Disney’s most-watched ever (with 136 million views), Black Panther lands in the top 3 of most-watched Marvel trailer content.
Black Panther surpasses the views for teasers for top Marvel and Disney-released movies such as Captain America: Civil War (61 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (55 million) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (52 million).
Black Panther was also massive on Twitter, generating 349,000 mentions in 24 hours. It generated more mentions than the NBA game during which it debuted, second only to the launch of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser.

Yes, everyone who dunks on the lion king is a Disney hater.
I don’t think @Finnick is calling TOG a Disney hater. Opinions on TLK, other remakes, etc. are valid and fair. It’s just that there’s a lot of redundancy in these threads. Saying an opinion once or twice is fine, saying it 10+ times gets old and that causes others who feel differently to be defensive and so the cycle continues. I have no issues with someone calling out Disney or whatever studio for what they think are poor actions, but some people do take it further than necessary. To the point that it isn’t as fun to come on here sometimes and it starts resembling the TLJ fiasco with both sides sniping at each other. Sometimes it’s okay to just let someone’s opinion go and not respond as though it’s an attack against you or what you like. But when someone disparages something you like multiple times, it can be difficult. That’s why I wish people would show some restraint in doing things like repeating the same joke 50 times. Anyway, it’s fine to dislike the remakes, but we’ve seen the same people state the same opinions countless times and it’s getting annoying. Just like it’s annoying to post the same favorable opinion about a movie or studio countless times.

But Iron Man 3 was successful and it also had Mandarin sort of. So why this much hate? Is that Mandarin different from Shang chi one?
That Mandarin was determined to be fake...and also, not Chinese.
I think the talks of boycott in this case are premature as we have very few details about this movie. Yes, given Marvel’s past choices, it’s safe to assume that they will not include racist caricatures in their movies, but I can also understand the apprehension Chinese moviegoers might have about how the movie will portray the Chinese and possible differences between Western-raised Chinese and those in China. All we know so far is that Simu Liu is Shang-Chi and Tony Leung is The Mandarin, we don’t know who Awkwafina is playing or who else stars in the movie. I hope this blowup doesn’t prevent other Chinese stars from taking other roles or future roles in Marvel movies.
I do find it weird that the fact that Simu was cast recently is a point of contention for some. Clearly Marvel has been auditioning actors for a while and had yet to find the right one until him. Also, he likely had already gone through various auditions before being cast and getting to screen testing. It’s not a 1 week thing. Some actors do get roles without auditioning at all if Marvel feels strongly that they’re perfect for the role, including people like Chadwick Boseman and most recently, Mahershala Ali. And based on his social media posts, Simu has been wanting a role like this for a while and had likely been training accordingly.
I also think Marvel should’ve been more transparent about this movie in particular, but clearly they’re going with their secrecy bend they’ve been on for the past few years. Maybe they can make an exception to alleviate fears, but I figure they’ll just allow some things to leak and wait till the trailer to show anything significant.

This was a made into a movie??!!! How did I not know this? One of my favorite books ever, think I’ve read it over 10 times now. Wow. I’ll have to watch this now. I’d make a list, but the only B&W movies I’ve seen are Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Inherit the Wind.

Me too. Really liked it.
For those unfamiliar with Mr. Rogers, I think it’s worthwhile to watch Won’t You Be My Neighbor? before watching this.

So Fox/Disney has rights to this currently. Wonder if they’ll pass it up. It doesn’t sound like a Disney movie at all n

Turned into a fat joke in EG. All the inconsistency with his character. Demolishing his character arc by giving the throne to Valkyrie. Etc. I don't recall his complaining ever about it but maybe that was a mistake. It's a tough business, doesn't pay off to play it nice.
Pretty sure Hemsworth came up with the idea of having Thor gain weight. Your opinions and all, but you keep backing them up with incorrect details.

No man it's true. Katheryn Langford was hired to pose as Jane in the Asgard scene cause Portman didn't want to do it. It's true. Then Portman agreed to do the cameo so Langford scene was out. They still announced that she was cast. But anyway, people who knew about it were surprised that Portman did it after all. It looks like it came with the Thor 4 package.
And there's no way that Jane Thor isn't taking over from Thor 5 onwards. No way. This isn't one off stint. You'll see.
Katherine Langford was hired to play older Morgan Stark, not Jane Foster body double. They filmed a scene with her and RDJ, but chose to not include it in the movie. Not sure where you’re getting your biased info from, but it’s wrong. And Natalie was one of the best things about Thor. It was clear she checked out in the sequel, but she was passionate about the plot and director the movie initially had and didn’t like the way things turned out. Glad she’s back on board.

I wonder if Constance Wu’s whole social media meltdown was due to a role in this movie. Not sure how the production timeline works, but I really doubt she was so public about not being able to accept a role if it wasn’t for something big. Though FOTB is an ABC show so I’d assume Disney would be able to accommodate her if she was up for a Marvel film role.
Would’ve loved both her and Awkwafina in the MCU, but just Awkwafina for now is great. Don’t know anything about Simu, but I’ve heard great things about his show so glad he got this opportunity. I’m so pumped for this upcoming slate.
Really didn’t expect Marvel to announce so much, especially with D23 coming up and their recent secrecy, but I think they knew they needed a way to re-energize their fans and keep the potential ones they’ve gained over these past 2 years on board for more.

Good Lord. It’s like no one on the last 5 pages read the thread rules on the first page. I also find it ironic that some older forum members who frequently complain about new members poisoning threads are so bent on making this one hell.

My introduction to Andrew Lloyd Webber came from The Nanny where he was name dropped as Mr. Sheffield’s rival. That’s pretty much the source of any interest I have in this movie.

Saw this last night. It was...weird. Not super disturbing like I expected, but definitely weird. Can’t decide if I liked it. The last movie I saw with a similar ‘wtf am I watching’ vibe was Annihilation and that one had a clear theme. This one wasn’t as clear to me which made it difficult for me to enjoy it. First Ari Aster movie though. As we walked out of the theater, the custodian was like that’s what you get in an Ari Aster movie lol. 6.5/10

It's ok. I shouldn't have posted this but I don't have anyone who actually wants to listen. I tried talking to family but they don't take it seriously. I've told them about my suicidal urges long ago but they treat it as nothing. I want them completely out of my life but they refuse to listen. The only way I can get true peace without dying is to try and get my (completely) own place. But I have no education past HS, I have a very bad fear of driving and my aunt not only needs someone to drive her but would also still want to see the other members of her family.
Can you talk to your doctor? You can get referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist that you can talk to. That’s typically the longer route, but if you are having suicidal thoughts right now, or they’ve become frequent enough to the point you feel you might do something to harm yourself, you should call 911 now and go to your nearest ER. You’ll get to talk to someone, usually a psychiatrist or social worker, who can assess you for safety, help you develop a safety plan you can use when you have similar thoughts in the future, or admit you for safety and monitoring.
It sounds like you’ve been dealing with this for a while and haven’t been receiving support you need. I’d recommend going to the hospital or if you don’t feel comfortable with that, talking to your PCP. You can also get connected with a social worker who can help provide housing and employment options. Stay safe and keep us updated on what you decide to do.

For anyone who's wondering what they intend to do with the big mid-credits reveal:
Also from io9, which suggests that they won't cop-out with the identity reveal:
And from an interview with /Film that indirectly confirms what many of us already believed:
Watching the scene, I thought Mysterio was just setting Peter up for his death (if he is dead). But it seems the public will believe all the other attacks were caused by Peter too. I know he has access to the EDITH thing from Tony, but would the public really believe a teenager set up all these things? For what purpose, make himself look like a hero? Become the next Tony Stark? I can already imagine the things this JJJ will say about Peter, but is it easy to believe? I feel so bad for him. Can’t wait for the next movie to find out though. Wonder if there’ll be a time jump like this one. Also, I don’t get how Peter is still 16 unless he was only 14 in Civil War.

Sure. But you’ve been anti-lion king, anti-Aladdin, anti-Malificent, anti-Dumbo. The pattern speaks for itself.

It’s a pretty good show. Definitely some shocking scenes. Great characters. And Homelander is a great villain. I really thought he was the sole good superhero at first. The Deep has me simultaneously feeling sorry for him and thinking he got what he deserved. The finale had a good cliffhanger too. Can’t wait for season 2.
