At the same time, Aladdin is a beloved animated classic so the notion that one has to lower expectations to enjoy the live action adaptation is disappointing.

There are plenty of borderline fresh reviews, i.e. 3/5’s.

Could they be changing up the circumstances in which they put out the critical consensus when reviews are a mixed bag? With movies like Endgame and John Wick, reviews came in steady and fresh.

For whatever reason, reviews for the GI Joe movies started off fresh before dropping way down.

Plus, in animated form, they could get away with a lot more with Robin Williams' type of humor than in a live action setting. I've read some people suggest that if Robin Williams were still alive, he'd be the one doing the Genie again like James Earl Jones is doing Mufasa again for Lion King. I don't think a Robin Williams Genie would translate well to live action. In that regard, I would buy that a Will Smith Genie is better suited to live action, but that doesn't really hold a candle to an animated Robin Williams Genie.

They obviously want to bank off of Hemsworth and Thompson fresh off of Endgame. It is hard to say whether how much surprise walkups this gets. Depends on the reception to the film.

I don’t want to erase his entire filmography. Just the stuff like King Arthur and his vanity project with Madonna.

Or that your enjoyment of it was driven by lowered expectations, while people have high expectations for The Lion King.
