I’m fully on board the Bob Marley over 10M OD train. I really think this will play like the next All Eyez on Me, although I hope it can total 60M or so, since the box office is so dire.

Madame Webb doesn’t look terrible for OD, I’ll go 5-6M but yea it’s going to collapse hard after that.

Times have shifted a good deal over the past few years, but I remember Holmes & Watson, having not been screened in advance for critics, having a 6M OD on Christmas and then dropping so hard after that.

yeah I think studios are under the impression female team up movies will automatically attract a huge female audience in addition to the typical male audience but as we have seen with Birds of Prey, The Marvels, and now likely this. This is clearly not the case

Had those movies been well written and looked appealing, though, they wouldn't have turned out poorly.

I love this this is a fresh review:

“A clunky, goofy, mess. However, there’s an ultimate joy in this ham-fisted adventure. Unintentionally hilarious dialog, corny villain, cringeworthy moments, lazy Easter eggs, a superb ensemble of cheesy performances lead to an ironically enjoyable romp.”

this is exactly the kind of vibe I expected and hoped for.

Sorry Quantumania and Eternals, I don’t like being bored. But I like having this kind of fun.

    Venom 30%
    Morbius 15%

There are reviews calling Madame Web boring, though.

Feel bad for SJ Clarkson. She has a great track record on TV and was supposed to direct Star Trek before that went into development hell, and had the failed pilot for a GoT spin-off in 2019 as well. And now this will be her actual big screen directorial debut.

Guess she’ll be sticking to TV for the foreseeable future. I just hope the writers behind this, Morbius, Gods of Egypt, The Last Witch Hunter and Dracula Untold never get work again.

So the movie is as bad as its trailer? What a surprise! Who was the guy who claimed the movie had decent test-screenings, ViewerAnnon again or EmpireCity?

It was DanielRPK. He even thought the trailer looked good.

There are examples of clips being edited down for late night stuff  before but it's not usually just completely incoherent like this. This feels like it's missing half the footage that's supposed to be in it

We'll know tomorrow whether that clip was an accurate indicator of the consensus of the overall movie, but as of now, poor clip editing is not gonna get people excited. And even now, there's too much silliness in that clip.

Yeah, I remember hearing reports about it being heavily cut down after King of the Monsters failed. Thankfully, unlike many other situations like this in Hollywood, Adam Wingard seems to have had a decent seat at the table through it all, as indicated by him gleefully returning for this one. And this time they went in with the knowledge of what the fans truly want instead of having to retroactively change the movie after filming, so hopefully the movie is great and it pays off next month.

I’m still waiting for a Destroy All Monsters style team up movie. If you’re the executive in charge of overseeing the MonsterVerse, how is such a movie not on the docket?

Anybody not wearing Spiderman/CBM fan blindes shoud have seen this had bomb written all over it from day one.

And SONY is clearly dumping this keeping marketing money to a minimum. The idea they are saving up for a huge last minute push is pretty silly.

The notion that they're doing it to hide spoilers is silly. Infinity War and Endgame were considered pretty spoiler heavy and both of those movies had their embargoes drop three days before release, not one day.

The movie just wrapped filming so I'm not expecting anything beyond a 30-second spot focusing on a practical scene without much in the way of effects. They can get such an ad done on time. But I do agree that we likely won't be getting a full trailer for a couple more months yet. If I had to guess it'll be May with Apes.

We could easily get a trailer with GxK at the end of March.

If Sony had a shred of confidence in this, they would have bumped it to May (where a Marvel movie, whether Disney, Fox, or Sony, has kicked off the Summer for every year the last 20 years) rather than keeping it in February.

    Expecting Morbius-tier reviews.

Not *every* year for the past 20 years. 2004-2006 didn't kick off the summer movie seasons with Marvel movies. And then there was 2020 and 2021 for obvious reasons.

  12. This timetable makes sense considering the red carpet premiere is February 12.

Considering the talks of potential walk-ups for Madame Web on V-Day, I'm half expecting more of those walk-up audiences to opt for the Anyone But You V-Day special release since it's a more V-Day friendly movie and those audiences having likely already seen it, it's a movie they already know they enjoy vs. Madame Web which they risk not enjoying for V-Day. I can't help but feel like the potential stinker they have with Madame Web is why they're doing a special V-Day release for Anyone But You since they're from the same studio.

Free Guy moved to the week before this was supposed to come out and Father's Day weekend became up for grabs after Luca's theatrical release was cancelled. Might as well take advantage of that spot even if it means being crushed by F9 the following week.

Not only that, but they gave it a couple extra days by putting it on a Wednesday. Hoping to get more with a 5-day opening.
