  1. I think BP and IW are feeding into each other. Yes, there's a big chunk of the BP crowd that will not see IW, but really, the idea that it will have no impact or a negligible impact doesn't really make sense to me. Will my mother, who is happily seeing BP with us on Sunday (and hasn't shown independent interest in any comic book movie since maybe Batman 89 and hasn't even allowed herself to be dragged to any comic book movie by her comic book-loving family in five years) going to see IW? Probably not. But my sister, who maybe hasn't seen a comic book movie in theaters since...Ultron?...she'll be there, after being drawn out for BP. A decent minority portion of an audience as big as BP's looks to be is notable, even for an audience as big as IW's is anyway. The fact that Wakanda and BP have already been majorly highlighted for IW (with Cap, BW, WS, and others) is no small thing.
  2. (Nevermind, I was beaten to it about the Polanski quotes...) If she were planning a movie that potentially features Polanski as a notable character and gave his character a sympathetic slant? She'd be in it up to her neck. As it is, I think if Whoopi or others who have so far not gotten major blowback for their support of Polanski did an interview right now for any reason, I do believe they would be asked if they still hold the same opinion, and if they do, to defend it, and would catch some hell. That's certainly happened to a ton of people who have worked with Woody Allen over the years.
  3. So, I think of this movie every third or fourth time I log in to these forums, since this movie is my answer to the question of which movie's box office I followed first. I was 11 or so when it came out, but the hype was SO OVERWHELMING it felt like there was no way to not be interested in how it wound up doing. My dad worked in NYC back then, and was catching a cab to get the train home early for us to see it when it opened, and the cab driver greeted him with, "Welcome to Gotham." They talked about the movie for the whole ride. Also, my family is absolutely a Prince family, so that was a wrap, lol. We all loved it, and eventually, when we got it on VHS, my brother and sister would literally watch it every. single. day. During the summer, they claimed to have watched it 8 times in one day at some point. The cassette tape for the soundtrack got worn the hell out. This movie was no joke. Of course, back then, by "following its box office," I mainly mean remembering checking the weekend Top 5 and Top 10 list in USA Today and Entertainment Weekly (I think?). Maybe EW was for Jurassic Park. By the time ID4 rolled around, my brother was taping Entertainment Tonight on Mondays to get the big box office wrap-up stories. Same for Phantom Menace. The first one I really remember making a dent in my mind that was online tracking was Spiderman. I knew about Mojo before that, but after, I was following box office closely on line and reading the forums (even if I don't often post ;)). My brother called me, and I remember saying to him that as far as I was concerned the Spiderman numbers meant that we should both be able to look out our respective windows and just see people leaving their homes and jobs and RUNNING to the theater. Lololol. Ah, memories.
  4. //de-lurks Sometimes I think I'm the only person who saw that Jack *does* try to get on the piece of wood with Rose after she initially climbs on, and it immediately tips over, putting them both back in the water. He tells her to get back on, the camera holds on him for a beat, and you can see on his face that he realizes he's stuck in the freezing water and is accepting that in order to save Rose. It wasn't lingered on, but it was clearly there. //re-lurks
