In fairness, I believe he's saying something a lot of us thought at one point in time. at least before we got cast details and a trailer and all that. People have warmed up to it, me being one of them. Then there are those that wanted it the whole time. Good on them!

Which makes “no one asked for the trailer” imprecise and exaggerated (to the point that it annoyed me).

I always wanted this trailer. The first trailer was mediocre and not baddass enough to warm GA up to it. This one does the trick. It showed great action scenes which is more appealing to many.

I think you are very right here.  It so depends on what you have grown up with.  I remember those scenes in CTHD, and I thought they were so, so stupid, but, of course, they make just as much sense as The Force and Jedi when you think about it.  I've tried a few more recent Wuxia films and just can't get into them at all.  I'm assuming there is some cultural divide that keeps SW niche in China and the same for Wuxia films in the US. But, you are correct that if a movie could find a way bridge that gap, it would probably be very successful.  How was The Matrix received in parts of Asia?  Wonder if the sequel will try to pull some more elements and more Asian characters into it.

The Matrix is very well-known and considered by many to be one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. I doubt the sequel will be as good as the original ones, especially the first one, but if it gets close, then it will definitely pull big numbers in China.

I believe the action advisor/choreography director of the Matric franchise is Yuen Woo Ping, who is probably the most famous choreography director in HK. He is also the choreography director for CTHD, and many other Wuxia movies. That’s why many actions scenes in The Matrix look very eastern.

  3. I am Chinese and I only speak for myself. SW is one of the few franchises that I just can’t comprehend. I grew up watching hongkong action movies including Wuxia fantasy movies, and I think the choreography for those movies are top-notch. In comparison, lightsabers fights are very silly and clumsy to me. Also, the concept of force is not appealing to me. Have you ever watched a Chinese Wuxia movie like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in which people suddenly fly on bamboos and walls like gravity doesn’t exist? I think the way westerners react to that kind of scenes (wtf is going on?) is how I react to the force concept.

All in all, the elements that define SW movies happen to be those that keep me away from SW. GoGT and interstellar don’t have those and therefore I love them, and they are highly rated and well received in China. But is SW willing to pander to Chinese market by abandoning these elements? Of course it won’t coz that’s what SW is about. So my conclusion is SW in pretty much hopeless in China (I just realized I said I only speak for myself but now I am generalizing to the whole market)

Maybe The Eternals, which I don't know jack shit about. Don't see it for Black Widow at all - think that does like 240m, a lil higher than Ant Man 2 type numbers. I would agree Eternals seemingly has the highest ceiling of any 2020 movie, assuming WW84 is dropping from the original.

WW84 will cross 350m. It’s almost a lock. BW is not an ant man level of SH. I mean, take a look at the trailer views. It will be close to 300m, if not over. Eternals is a wildcard. I hope it will surprise me (in a good way) like GotG did back in 2014.

Internationally, Minions, Mulan, and FF9 are what we should look out for. Mulan is a wildcard internationally. If reception in Asian markets, particularly in China, is good, it can easily become the highest grossing movie worldwide for next year.

Maoyan numbers are running faster than the numbers shown in the official app. Maoyan has to slow down. In the official app, FFH is higher than Looking Up. FFH is the only one that is lower in Maoyan than in the official app. So it might be the only one that will get an bigger increase in the next few hours.

Also, FFH will stay flat from yesterday or see a slight increase. Pretty good.

I never saw a increase for TLK eventhough it looked strong earlier

Looking up have added zero yuan the last 3 hours. And my question is. Are there no evening shows for it today?
