I'm hoping that I2 and WIR2 being sequels will give Spiderverse the edge in voting. Heck, I'd even be okay with Isle winning, and I liked I2/WIR2.
Would Isle of Dogs officially count as a Disney movie by the time the Oscars come around?

I just got back from seeing it. It was a very enjoyable film. I’ll admit that the frame rate was a bit distracting early on, but I got used to it pretty quickly. All in all, based on my first viewing, I would say this movie was at least on par with SM2, if not better.

Well, Armond White (the man, the myth, the legend) just brought the score for this movie down to a 97%. Of course, that’s still a phenomenal score, but it would’ve really been something if this movie had managed to have a near perfect score like Get Out and Lady Bird.
-
All three of the negative reviews that have been posted on Rotten Tomatoes have cited the low frame rate as being too distracting. Still, if The Incredibles 2 managed to be a hit in spite of all of the epilepsy issue, I don’t think this movie having weird animation should be a huge deal for the general public.

People have no right to complain about fuzzy Pikachu ever again.

Lord... You said WW won't make $1b worldwide because it's not a female Marvel movie. This implies only female Marvel movies make $1b worldwide.
I thought it implied that the only female led CBMs that have a chance at making a billion dollars are the ones with the Marvel name on them.

Or least show Sonic for the "first look"... Maybe he is as cute as Pikachu (but I doubt it).
“Cute” isn’t really something associated with Sonic, even if he is a little animal with an old design that looked kind of pudgy. He’s seen as more of a “cool” 90s character.

Disney has made the best film every year they released a film (except for when Cars released)? Lmao. So why didn't they make the best film this year considering that they have done it almost every year they released a film.
This isn't ad hominem lol and yes, I have seen the film. It is a 9/10.
All I know is that many people considered The LEGO Movie to have been the best animated film of 2014.
-
I seriously doubt this movie will get a Best Picture nod, but that’s okay, because the Academy tends to look down upon animated films anyway.
-
Now that I’ve had more time to formulate my thoughts on this movie, I have to say that it felt like a good 20 minutes was missing. The pacing in the second half was kind of rushed. The film seemed like it was in a particular hurry to get to the climax. I’m all for short movies, but a movie like this could’ve definitely benefited from being longer.

Armond's at it again isn't he?
Nope. Roger Moore.

The first negative review on Rotten Tomatoes just came in. It had to happen sooner or later. Let’s just hope people don’t overreact like what happened with Black Panther.

Damn! This movie definitely lived up to its promise of being darker than the Disney versions. If you have kids who love the Disney versions, you probably shouldn’t show them this movie. I’m not super familiar with the source material, but if it’s anything like this movie, I can definitely see why Walt Disney insisted on changing the hell out of it when the animated film was made.
I’m honestly not sure what to make of this movie. It certainly seems like it’ll stick with me longer than the 2016 film, but I’m not surprised that critics prefer the latter.

I did not see this film actually generating the hype I'm seeing.
Spider-man or not, still felt like something that would start strong and fizzle but now...ok, let's see what happens.
What gave you the impression that this movie would fizzle? Not only is it an animated movie, but it’s being released in December, which is usually the leggiest month for movies.

Technically Aquaman had 3 trailers, the Comic Con trailer, the "extended video " and the final trailer.
All others DCEU movies had 3 trailers or more (SS and WW had 4 I think).
The “extended video” was never released in theaters, and from what I understand, it was just the thing they showed to the people who attended Comic Con. It’s not really a “trailer” in the traditional sense.

I wish they didn’t have to constantly emphasize the fact that he’s a kid even while he’s Shazam. Isn’t he supposed to have the “Wisdom of Solomon”?

I think it's for the best for WB to focus on Aquaman right now. Also, there's this:
Unlike other "twitter insiders", Umberto is legit and has access to real connections since he started working for TheWrap. Shazam! would be lost in the shuffle of a shitload of trailers already.
I mostly just remember Umberto Gonzalez from the pre-BvS days, where he seemed to have a wishy washy track record.

I would hope so but you never can be sure considering it's not a Disney film. Rango won cause neither Cars 2 nor Winnie the Pooh were nominated that year.
All I know is that if this movie doesn’t win, they might as well exclusively nominate Disney films for the BAF category moving forward. I may not have seen this movie yet, but with the kind of reception it’s been getting, it seems like it should be the favorite to take home the Oscar.

beside this being not earnestly meant....
just to have a comparison for another date/time:
dislike % is less than 5% for the moment (~485k likes to 23k dislikes)
Well, it does have a higher ratio of dislikes to likes than most other MCU trailers, and the comment section for the trailer is full of people complaining about Brie Larson. It’s obviously far from being a Ghostbusters (2016), but it certainly seems to be inspiring a great amount of polarizing opinions compared to the usual Marvel film.

I guess I’ll update this thread by mentioning that the RT score just jumped all the way up to a 57%.

that statement is still a bit of a strange one:
LEGO isn’t a big brand OS
Lego is a giant brand OS with some year's the world biggest revenues for a Toy company above a giant toy conglomerate like Mattel and way bigger than any individual toy brand
What make you say that Lego isn,t big OS ?
If it is looking at movies box office, that can be misleading a Chris Pratt Comedy or a Will Arnett Batman comedy will tend to play domestic heavy, that quite common for the genre.
Will Arnett and Chris Pratt shouldn’t even be a factor for overseas territories. Perhaps I should’ve been more specific, but the movies have definitely not fared all that well overseas, with LBM having made less than $150 million outside of North America.

Probably calling Lego " not a big OS brand".
Since Lego is from Denmark
I never said it was an American brand.

I’m going to be pretty annoyed if Black Panther wins Best Picture, but this doesn’t win Best Animated Film. I like Black Panther fine, but if there’s any CBM of 2018 that the Academy should be gushing over, it’s this one.
