  1. And Jaws was a PG-rated film! Ha, you could get away with so much more in a PG film in the 70s and early 80s. The Kintner boy death scene still shocks me every time I see it. Can't believe how much blood Spielberg uses, its like an explosion of blood contrasted against that yellow raft.
  2. Alien and Aliens are two entirely different types of movie. It's like comparing Star Trek to Star Wars.
  3. I said you were incorrect, not lying. And you were, implying that the industry consensus at the time was that Oceans 8 would open at $30m which it was not.
  4. "Warner Bros./Village Roadshow’s gender swap all-star heist comedy Ocean’s 8 arrived on tracking this morning with industry projections indicating that the pic could open to $45M when it opens on June 8. Some tracking firms have the all femme pic at $30M, but it will come as no surprise if Ocean’s 8 debuts at the level of Sony’s all-girl reboot Ghostbusters ($46M opening, $128.3M domestic, $229.1M WW)." https://deadline.com/2018/05/rihanna-anne-hathaway-oceans-8-box-office-opening-projection-1202393228/
  5. That's just flat out incorrect. Industry tracking was never as low as $30m. Initial, long range tracking had Oceans 8 pegged at $45m. Heading into this weekend, that estimate dropped to $35-40m. Please provide a link to a reputable source (Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline) that had numbers you're quoting.
  6. They're saving that and the red-band trailer for Halloween for Incredibles 2.
  7. Looks like Ocean's 8 is tracking at $40-45m including Thursday. But the real suspense is whether Hereditary can beat Solo and Deadpool 2 to come in at second. I'm thinking it can.
  8. "...the film would stand fundamentally against human dignity." HAHAHAHAHA, AWESOME!!! I could only wish that if I ever made a movie, it would get such a ringing endorsement!
  9. Could Hereditary pull the upset and actually beat Deadpool 2 and Solo to come in second? Right now, Box Office Mojo has Hereditary pegged at $12m for the weekend, Deadpool 2 at $13m and Solo at $14.5m.
  10. Some more... "You know how to whistle, don't you Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."- To Have and Have Not (1944) “Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not Mr. Lebowski. You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude...." The Big Lebowski (1998) "I'm gonna get medieval on yo'ass!"- Pulp Fiction (1994) "All work and no play make Johnny a dull boy."- The Shining (1980) (Ha, not sure if this counts because it's a written quote, not spoken.) "The Force is strong in this one."- Star Wars (1977) "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings."- It's a Wonderful Life (1946) "Top of the world, Ma!"- White Heat (1949) "Shall we play a game?"- WarGames (1983) "Klaatu barada nikto."- The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) "Greetings from The Humungus! The Lord Humungus! The Warrior of the Wasteland! The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla!"- The Road Warrior (1982) "I AM THE LAUUUW!"- Judge Dredd (1995) "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me."- The Graduate (1967)
  11. No order yet, just trying to get the quotes written down. Also, trying to avoid the quotes that have already been mentioned. "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"- Ghostbusters (1984) "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way."- Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) "You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends up of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way!"- The Untouchables (1987) "Fuck me gently with a chainsaw."- Heathers (1989) "If you build it, he will come."- Field of Dreams (1989) "Winged freak terrorizes? Wait'll they get a load of me!"-Batman (1989) "You're a disease and I'm the cure."- Cobra (1986) "I feel the need for speed!"- Top Gun (1986) "Hey bud, let's party!"- Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) "You had me at hello."- Jerry Maguire (1996) "They're heeere!" -Poltergeist (1982) "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!" -Gone with the Wind (1939) "Pop quiz, hotshot."- Speed (1994) "Is it safe?" - Marathon Man (1976) "Hey, I'm walkin' here!"- Midnight Cowboy (1969) "Well, a boy's best friend is his mother."- Psycho (1960) "Do you like movies about gladiators?"- Airplane (1980) That's it for now, more later.
  12. Fair enough. I guess we'll know in a couple days. :)
  13. I see Oceans 8 meeting or coming in a little under projections, $35m-$40m. Reviews have been only average and I just don't see a lot of demand for this movie. There's been a glut of chick flicks so far this summer, Overboard, Breaking In, Life of the Party and Book Club, so I don't see any pent-up demand for another female-centric movie.
  14. Cameron himself said on the commentary that Aliens was a thriller and specifically not a horror movie. Army of Darkness, Predator, all great choices, Brainbug...except of course for You're Next. And Alien: Covenant was absolute garbage. What I hated the most about that movie was that everyone wanted a true 'Alien' picture, the studio, the fans, everyone. Everyone except for Scott. So Scott pretended to give people what they wanted but really made a Prometheus sequel and basically gave a giant F.U. to the fans and everyone.
  15. Wingard thinks he's so cool and clever but his films just come off as smarmy and juvenile. If the soundtrack is the best thing you can say about a movie, it means the movie sucks. Oh, the Hot Shots of horror? Hmmm... yeah, I have no idea. :P
  16. Will it be The Strangers? Or Funny Games? Similar themes, entirely different approaches. Or...are we going completely old school and picking Straw Dogs?
  17. I think James Caan was perfect for the role. He's always been a very physical, very muscular actor. To paralyze him and place him in a life and death situation where he can't use his legs is genius.
