  1. They have several high-profile releases ahead: Hellboy, Flarsky, Midway, Knives Out and Chaos Walking. But with the reorganization, I think Lionsgate is slowly moving away from theatrical distribution and to streaming and TV.
  2. My mistake. I thought Aquaman had a teaser trailer. They only did a title teaser on twitter in 2017.
  3. Aquaman was still 5 months out when the trailer hit. This is less than 3 months out. I hope nothing is unusual.
  4. A casting director would balance out the pros and cons. They would likely consider the negative publicity, the lack of work ethics and the unstable nature of the psychopath, and say no.
  5. More the contractual agreement between a distributor and a movie theater. Probably the terms are more favorable to the major distributors. For example, there is no obligatory two-week window for small distributors.
  6. Well, in general no two persons are the same (or each individual is unique). So a gay actor in a gay role is not the same as "being himself in front of camera". But I see that a character that is gay or disabled could be made more convincing if played by actors who share a similar life experience and who are able to add sophistication and layers to the character.
  7. Those were made public long after the film's release. And Green Book's box office run has not been very impressive so far, despite winning awards and being backed by a major studio.
  8. The original was a proven crowd pleaser (being an international hit) and was relatively unknown in the US (being a foreign-language film). These two facts actually help The Upside's box office success.
  9. Vice received a Golden Globes bump and has been even with The Mule in PTA since Monday. It's safe to say the cost of keeping a film in theaters for longer is higher for smaller distributors.
  10. All the while Warner Bros was able to add theaters to The Mule in Week 5. It tells you major distributors have a lot more leverage over movie theaters than smaller ones (Annapurna) do.
  11. March is spring break and July is prime summer. I had expected one blockbuster from each week and some medium hits to counter-program. The two months are lacking both.
  12. The months of March, July and November this year are so barren as if every other major studio is giving Disney a pass. So strange.
  13. A $160m OW would likely mean a total over $500m for CM.
  14. It seems unusual for a studio tentpole not having an official trailer with less than three months left before release.
  15. It's the other way around. Most reviews that I've read describe the story as a "magical negro" helping his less sophisticated white employee grow as a person with little backstory given to the black man.
  16. There is logical reasoning behind this. When a movie lost, it lost public attention too. Some of these "outrageous" people were trying to convince others these movies were such and such. Ideology, not the movies, came first for these people. When the public no longer cared about a movie, so did they. They would go after something else in the public spotlight.
  17. It looks like Spider-Verse, Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody are going to get a boost today from the Golden Globe.
  18. 1. Jojo Rabbit 2. Knives Out 3. Avengers: Endgame 4. Captive State 5. High Life 6. The Lion King 7. Us 8. The Good Liar 9. Good Boys 10. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
