I don't think awareness is high on this one. Shazam isn't Aquaman, which received plenty of exposure from Justice League. This needs a stronger marketing push.
As a side note, both R and PG-13 versions were released in Hong Kong during the same time. The PG-13 cut was made for audiences under 18 and was only 0.03 minute shorter than the R-rated cut.
Another extremely swift production is The Post directed by Steven Spielberg. Filming began in June 2016 and a finished cut was screened in November the same year.
With today's filming and processing technology, filming usually takes a month or two and post takes about three to six months. It's usually the studio system that hinders the creative process and reduces any flexibility in production, leading to unnecessarily lengthy wait time between development and release.
Sony has more extreme precedents of how fast they can wrap things up. The Girl in the Spider's Web began filming in January and opened in November the same year. Goosebumps 2 began filming in March and opened in October the same year.

Interesting. Bona Film does not have a distribution division in Hong Kong while Sony has one. And will Taiwan let Bona distribute there? This move may have some political implications there.
Based on Fandango hourly numbers, Glass is doing about 70% of Venom's Thursday night business. But Venom's previews started at 5pm. Factoring that in, $5m previews for Glass should result .
Currently on Fandango, Glass is selling more tickets for Friday shows than for Thursday ones. It's not as frontloaded as other horror entries (The Nun, Halloween).
