So the Taylor Swift-is this a one night concert thing, or is this lilke Madonnas Truth or Dare (yep that aged me lol) where its a docu type of thing? Or somewhere in between?
From what Im reading seems to legitimately be a one night concert-this would be a one night as opposed to a regular theatre run? Or are they doing the concert then the movie would effectively be a "re-run"?

Top Gun Maverick back in theaters again on Sep 8
Star Trek '09 back on the same date
The Matrix and Lego Movie return on Sep 15, Get Out and The Dark Knight are back on Sep 22.
Might be an AMC exclusive series?
I admit Im interested to see what the theatres are going to do with the gap of films as more get pushed to 24.

Gran Turismo, southern Ontario, Thursday previews, T-6
Sales at 146, so 46% growth since last update, but only 11% growth yesterday.
Regional comp
0.428x Blue Beetle for $1.4M
Local comps extrapulated to region
0.124x Fast X for $1.1M
0.088x T:ROTB for $0.7M
Basically staying flat against the local and regional comps. This doesn't take into account EA shows.
Just pure Thursday shows in the $1-1.5M range would be my guess at the moment.
Im got so confused with GTs "week long opening weekend" that I admittedly am unsure of how to track it-like even Canadian dates were like all over the place depending on the theatre lol. I might try and get some tracking done for Thurs Fri, but it was confusing to see all the dates lol

Since you're also looking at Cineplex, I may as well share my methodology, as I've expanded recently.
When tracking my individual theatre, I've just gone directly into my theatre listings and find the showtimes that way.
But, recently, I've looked up the film directly, and it pulls up showtimes for a short radius. You can opt to show more, and I keep clicking that until it won't give me any more results. It maxes out at around 150Km or so. I then do a manual mental count. Blue Beetle is the biggest film I've done. I think if I did a Barbie, I'd start struggling with the math. As it is, if i try pulling it when I have any distractions around, I often have to restart.
As long as I'm pulling data from the same physical location, it should be giving me consistent data. But, if Cineplex changes the parameters, it'll throw my system off.
It's not the greatest method, since it's manual, and prone to error, but it's the only way I've found to reliably collect from a lot of theatres without being too time intensive. I do all this on my mobile, as the only computer I'm on regularly is for work, and don't want to explain why I'm constantly looking up movie times.
Sharing just in case this methodology is useful for anyone else, or if anyone has any suggestions to improve.
You do pretty much what I do-manual counts. I dont have programs to go and find all the stuff automatically. I used to do it on my phone till I got a puter, now I do it on computer. ANd yes when Cineplex changes parameters it totally throws things off. My phone is a cheapie and doesnt seem to want me to even get the app (prolly not enough memory lol). I used to do just SW Ontario, but then decided (ha!) to check some countrywide to get various takes.
I think you're doing a fantastic job, and just do what you feel comforable with-what I love about the site is no judging here on how you collect data, or how much or little, every little bit counts

That's remarkably low, even comparing to my southern Ontario standards. For Thursday, I have 3.6 tickets per showtime, where you're at 1.5.
Ticket sales do appear uneven around me, with more deeper suburbs and rural doing worse, but, my understanding is that your pulls are generally from pretty urban areas of two big cities.
I assume schools are still in summer session for both regions as well.
What's funny is that for my theatre, Shazam Fury of the Gods actually did great business here. It was one of the few kid friendly options during March Break. I'm pretty sure most provinces were on break around then too.
Maybe the fact that a lot of people saw it resulted in them less likely to see Blue Beetle.
When I have Vanc/Cal, Toronto/MTL and east coast (which i havent done in a while, heres what I find:
Van and Calgary always seem to be a little bit less that Toronto (obviously population), and sometimes can be surprisingly behind. Toronto is its own, usually has most seats, Montreal is weird.....its hard to even sometimes to find even bigger shows to have presales-whether its smaller theatres or what have you. East coast I haven't done in awhile because no matter film (again smaller population) seems to be like the "last ones" to catch up as far as Population. I will do Toronto/Montreal Tomorrow for BB and see where things are.
Im just getting impression that Cineplex is really "holding on" to Oppy and Barbie screens wise for literally as long as it can. Hence why stuff like Aug movies arent getting alot of the IMAX type screens.
And yes, I do big cities-my time of doing smaller areas I don't do much anymore, so its great when those like yourself cover the smaller areas

Sorry for total LACK of activity here on my part lately. Life just being life, and seeming scarce amount of presales for Aug films (and scarce actual screens) has made this a bit of a tough one
Apologies for the really scarce info, I get what Cineplex gives me.

This is literally what I get for my counts for presales. Apparently Friday sales are verboten at the moment out west for Strays. And for the Thurs shows, of the theatres I regularly track, these are it.
I know August is a tough month, but wow this is....looking at empty theatres and lack of theatres doing presales for upcoming films is hard. Im guessing stuff like Barbie and Oppenheimer theatres are just continuing to keep those shows on the a lot of screens, and guess leaving stuff like BB, GT and now Strays just kind of grabbing whatever scraps they can

Hey, just checking in. Havent been doing any real counts recently-had busy stuff going on. Things settling down now so hopefully I can get back to at least semi regular counts. I mean August tends to be a pretty dead month. Ive mainly been causally following Blue Beetle-and limited pre-sales in those cities, and the ones that are having presales, well lets just say theres a whole of of low single digit or o digits. I havent checked Toronto or Montreal past few days, but if its similar, with a week to go seems like there seems to be little appetite for BB. Doesnt help either with Barbie, Oppy, and other theatres taking up IMAX and prestige screens, BB is getting some avx, and a couple have bigger theatres but generally smaller theatre screen offerings.

I still have ticket counts in the Cineplex app. Are you looking at the website or through the app? I'm on Android if that makes any difference.
If they switch it up that way, not sure if I'll be able to keep up anything significant. Especially when I do broader sweeps of the region.
website. I don't have the app on my phone. Not enought room (I have a cheapie phone lol
May try adding app to see if works and my phone doesn't have me.
Havent got app up yet, but fortunately from previous counts I have seat numbers and totals. Its pretty easy to match up the counts for the theatres by just looking at my total for each show normally and deducting the sold seats.
But yea hope for app it stays that way (seat numbers) because that's gonna be a bugger if they switch that over as well.

My Cineplex app still has the numbers. Maybe it’s just a temporary glitch?Just tried it on website, (not app)-still no numbers, unless they put them in a different place? Or maybe I have to have the app to get numbers.
Im fine doing the manual count, but it was nice having the "20 seats out of 100 sold" info. My phone is a cheapie and doesn't like apps lol. So I just use the website.

Looks like Cineplex is deciding to make trackers go extra steps now. No longer any x amount x remaining numbers. Nope just a map of the seats and it will block off seats as they get sold.
Good old abacus and finger counting time
BTW took a look at Blue Beetle numbers for Vancouver and Calgary.....nothing sold yet, and Im only getting a couple of my usual theatres selling presales.

Gran Turismo, Thursday previews, T-20 Southern Ontario
Gran Turismo went on advance sale here yesterday. Did a manual count for broader Southern Ontario radius.
Sales at 18 tickets sold covering 48 theatres and 132 showtimes.
This compares to 20 tickets sold at T-20 for Haunted Mansion.
Notable for GT, it has most of the PLFs. It has the digital IMAX, but not the 70mm screens, which I'm guessing will continue to hold Oppenheimer.
I was under impression that GT was going to do the Last of Us thing and be a streaming series, didn't realize they made a full length movie.

Now thats an interesting thought-would "new shows" expanding into a weekend like a movie, if that actually got people into the theatres to see a "replay" of a concert-could be a very interesting move for future big artists to try same.
EDIT Nevermind that actually ARE doing it like a feature film with multiple days (at least showing on Cineplex site)....like this could be huge and a way for theatres to fill gaps with the writers strike going on....fascinating.
