No matter what Gunn does with the DCU he is going to make people mad at him.

I think in the end, he is going to have just ignore, the die hard Snyderverse fans; nothing he will never make them happy.

Which is why he needs to stop being so terminally online. It's a bad look for him and just generates more confusion about the DCU if anything.

I'd add Aquaman 1, Shazam 1 and the Snyder Cut to that list. Only 4 truly great movies out of 12 (I have no plans to touch the original Suicide Squad and Josstice League, and Aquaman 2 is not out here at the time of writing) is not a good run to say the least. The Snyder Cut was the perfect sendoff to this franchise for me, and everything afterwards feels like expensive fanfiction to me. I wonder if anyone else feels this way.

I feel exactly the same way (and those are the only 3 DCEU films I love love as well). It's just hard to care for after.

  3. Looks mid, like a rushed out cash grab sequel, not something this long in the making. I loved the first two as a kid (never got around to 3) and was looking forward to this after Puss in Boots 2 surprised me so much. Was hoping we'd get some of that stylized animation for this, the action scenes would look awesome.

Uh i knew i would have to do this someday and i have time today, so ...

    Godzilla ranking!

    01. Godzilla Minus One - yes, im already going there.
    02. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (my personal dream movie even with its script flaws)

    03. Gojira 1954 - still holds up so well, especially thematically.

    04. Godzilla (2014) - so goooooooooooooooooood

    05. Shin Godzilla - after the 3rd watch or so, even the meeting room scenes i began to love

    06. GMK (2001) - Minus One before Minus One came out, but ofc with way more cheese, delicious cheese

    07. Godzilla vs Kong - Fun as hell.

    08. Godzilla vs Destoroyah - good story, cool fights, emotional ending, a true classic in the series

    09. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) - absolutely absurd, great entertainment

    10. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla - Millenium goodness

    11. Godzilla vs Biollante - I liked the plant monster very much

    12. Godzilla: Final Wars - the most ridiculous movie after the Showa Era ended. Complete Trash, but very fun trash

    13. King Kong vs Godzilla - One of the first anti-capitalism movies with in-depth media criticism as well. Oh, also the fights are so funny

    14. Destroy all Monsters - Poor Ghidorah. Btw, 1st half of the movie better is skipped lol

    15. Godzilla 2000 - very solid

    16. Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S - solid as well

    17. The Return of Godzilla - like the next 5 or so movies, these are interchangable. I like all of them.

    18. Mothra vs Godzilla

    19. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (Rodan is so funny in this)

    20. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II

    21. Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla

    22. Terror of Mechagodzilla

    23. Godzilla vs Mothra - kind of ... boring at times

    24. Godzilla vs Megalon - i just cant hate this

    25. Ebirah, Horror of the Deep - funny.

    26. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla - it drags, but also funny moments

    27. Invasion of Astro-Monster - apart the final fights, there isnt that much here to enjoy sadly

    28. Godzilla vs Megaguirus - trash. Even with the funny body slam scene and the whole "Lets put Godzilla in a Black Hole"-plot (yes, youve read that right), it just falls flat

    29. The 3 Anime movies - animation style just threw me off, i dont like it.
    30. All Monsters Attack - the only one i actually kind of hate. Although i have to admit - some scenes are cute.

Still havent seen Godzilla raids again, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs Hedorah and Godzilla vs Gigan.

Godzilla vs Hedorah is one of my faves!

Here's my ranking of every G film: https://boxd.it/fafj4

Oh come on. The press aren't covering Flower Moon and Napoleons bombs anything like they are The Marvels. They know they get more clicks from negative coverage of Marvel stuff because they've ridden the "(Director name) SLAMS Marvel as ruining cinema!" train for five years. There was more negativity in the six months leading up to The Marvels than any MCU release ever.

Ignoring the decade prior to this "5 years of slamming" where this franchise was treated with kiddie gloves and praised to the high heavens. Audience sentiment negative and its dropping, the framing surrounding this one is different now. If the MCU had a flop of this magnitude say in phase 2/3, the coverage would be far different bc goodwill was still there.

Funny how nobody says this about similar movies that have also cost 200 plus and made far less...

It's called expectations and context. When a streaming prestige play makes similar numbers (an overperformance from most expectations tbf) it's seen as a secondary revenue stream anyway. It's a loss leader for Apple to build prestige for their film studio.

When the most successful franchise in history has one of the largest flops in history...and is a sequel to a film that made over a billion, that's far more alarming to be making those numbers and creates a different narrative surrounding it.

  7. I love the late Showa era but I think it's campiness is more appealing with guys in rubber suits vs cgi imo. I am glad Monsterverse shifted from grounded realism though, they didn't have the scripts to back up its aspirations. But I guess I preferred the more Heisei feel of KOTM, good balance.

I think this will drop from GvK because it lacks the novelty factor but should still do decent as it's got a fairly good release window. Has there been any word on how many more Legendary has licensed from Toho or is it a movie by movie basis now after the initial multi film deal that ended with GvK?

  8. Maybe it's just post Minus One hype but this looks bleh. GvK was my least fav of the Monsterverse and this just looks like more of the same I didn't care for. Still a day 1 bc I'm a slut for Godzilla but can't say I'm super hyped.

PLEASE I BEG OF YOU BRING BACK BEAR MCCREARY AT LEAST TO SCORE

The Junkie XL score to the last one is a bottom 5 worst of the decade score, actively killed every hype moment 😵‍💫

    darn, silent night is lionsgate?

    how much did it cost?

Hasnt been revealed. According to John Woo, it was basically an indie film production for him, smallest he's ever worked with and then Lionsgate just did distribution. I could be wrong but that's how I took it.

I think it makes a lot of sense that Toho is going all-out in the international (non-Japan in this case) promoting. Unless im mistaken, Shin Godzilla grossed 1,9M in the US in 2016, this one will do 10 times that amount, thats amazing.

Minus One is also far more universal in appeal than Shin is (which requires some context to get the political satire and commentary).

  11. I genuinely have no clue how this is gonna do.

The closest comparison I can think of is Spiderverse, like Fury Road it just did OKAY at the box office but had some of the best reviews of the year. Gained a cult following and was more widespread seen on streaming/home video. Then 5 years later, Spiderverse 2 saw a BIG increase because of that. Normally I'd say it'd get a similar bump BUT has it been too long? Did WB's stupidity in not paying Miller, thus delaying this forever killing this film's BO potential?
