100 percent with you, as you've probably seen my repeated posts over the years about this very topic.  Though I don't think it's completely going away.

One advantage of age is seeing patterns repeat.  While it's not guaranteed, fairly good chance DVD/BR/UHDs will go the way of vinyls and become a boutique item.

If they haven't already become one.

So while you won't seem many of them in the big box department stores, and the selection will probably contract, there will probably still be a market for them.  Just have to hunt a bit more before they catch on again in various waves ala vinyls.

Won't be too dissimilar to the laserdisc market of the 80s and 90s, really.  That's the hope at least.

(and plausibly the best case scenario in the short term)

The "enthusiast" market is absolutely thriving right now, lately it's been an amazing time for physical media collectors. The major studio releases are getting slimmer and worse but your Criterions, Vinegar Syndromes, Kino Lorbers, Umbrellas, etc. are killing it and starting to license out the bigger studio stuff more and more as they shift away from it themselves (for the better).

  2. Was semi hoping this might still be okay as a fan of DGG's Halloweens (minus Kills) but I found this to be absolutely abysmal. I almost walked out I was so bored.

The most shocking thing? That the original was way more graphic, vulgar and disturbing than anything here! Believer was borderline PG-13 outside of reusing the C-word line from the original.

  3. Interesting anecdote from the article though:

"Turmoil aside, the sequel might just work at the box office. The first “Aquaman” also was ho-hum in early testing and found its footing in postproduction. A studio source says “Aquaman 2” is following a similar trajectory. Early tracking shows strong interest and puts the film’s opening on par with the first “Aquaman.”

“Everybody’s down on DC, but there is a chance, especially with the limited competition during the holiday season, that ‘Aquaman’ could still play like gangbusters because of lack of product,” says Jeff Bock, a box office analyst with Exhibitor Relations. “Sometimes the right film at the right time is all you need.”"

There's been a lot of hate for Zegler going around tiktok lately (yes, it's mostly within sexist/misogynistic circles, but it has sort of evolved into a meme into other online spaces now). If you go on Lionsgate ads for the movie on tiktok, a lot of the top comments are saying things like "I'd go see this if Rachel wasn't in it."

Really a shame. One, because people are jerks. Two, Zegler's a great actress. And three, this movie looks really good. I genuinely hope its a hit, and that this little internet sillyness (using this in place of other, more accurate words) doesn't affect the movie's performance.

Fake rumours about her being fired from Paddington spread over to Facebook boomers too. Truly deranged. Why can't people be normal about actresses online.

Disappointing sure, missing expectations sure.  A Flop? Not at all. You can't call movies that made 6× their budget a flop. Flops lose money. This did not. Any movie making that much money on that budget would never be called a flop.

Sure, it was a prudent move to make as they assumed the franchise was pointing downwards and needed to wrap it up, so speed up the end and minimize any potential future losses.

And yet 7 still has a cliffhanger set up for a potential 8th while also torpedoing the series' goodwill with fans lol

  6. Really good! Top 3 Saw film next to 6 and 1 for sure. Felt like a proper Saw film again (which Jigsaw and Spiral lacked) but was also entirely different than any other entry. Much more of a character drama but it doesn't skimp on the traps either so don't worry about this being "elevated Saw".

I'd say this is newcomer friendly and fairly standalone but I would recommend watching 1 and 2 at least beforehand.

    Also STAY for the credits!

A fresh Saw movie wasn't in my bingo card...lol

Why are critics enjoying a 10th movie of a franchise where even the fantastic Saw 1 was rotten?

While I never cared about critics ( I'm a huge Saw fan ), I'm really curious about this.

I think if the films came out today. 1 and maybe 2/6 would've gotten fresh. But the rest would not have gotten QUITE the vitriolic response they got, critics today are a lot less hostile towards horror. Hell, Terrifier 2 got good reviews!
