  1. This movie was mocked and deemed a failure even before it was filmed let alone released. The fact those are the audience scores is great in the end. Even about the critics if you check rotten tomatoes this is far from being a bad videogame to movie adaptation even for them. All resident evil movies did worse, plus Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider movies did worse, price of Persia, silent hill, Warcraft, assassin's creed, etc.
  2. But word of mouth, cinemascore, rotten tomatoes user scores and even Twitter opinions are almost all positive for this. It's a typical Sony reaction where users like it even if crítics don't. People doubted Venom and I'm sure we're getting a third one of those. People doubted Jumanji and look at how well it did, etc. Also... Tom has been playing Spiderman for over half a decade and that didn't stop him from flopping miserably multiple times. Maybe...just maybe people are enjoying Uncharted and Sony knows what they are doing?
  3. Honestly at this point I wouldn't rule out a 55M. Which would be almost the double of the initial projections. Incredible.
  4. Can Uncharted do 30M just from Friday and Saturday? Wouldn't that surpass even the biggest predictions from today? That was the initial prediction for the 4 day weekend. If we get that from the first 2 days alone it would be wild!
  5. Leo flopped after Titanic as far as I remember... it's not a guarantee. Tom has made plenty of movies since he's Spider-Man and only now he's getting another hit
  6. Sony deserves all the success specifically when they were the ones that never gave up on theatres and kept having hits with movies with only theatre releases. Hopefully it keeps going. I mean...last year's marvel movies that did better at the box office came from them not Disney. Even Venom 2 with half the budget did better. They must be doing something right.
  7. Wow if this happens. Incredible success for this movie. Is 120M domestic by the end a possibility?
  8. Friday numbers will give us an idea. But there's still some places without theatres working at 100%. COVID is still affecting things. Who knows...
  9. A videogame adaptation doing over 200M domestic? Has that ever happened?
  10. Sonic and Pikachu are IPs from decades ago that far surpass videogames, specially anything Pokémon related with one of the most known animes ever plus the demographics that would watch them are also more varied. They aren't kids movies but they went in flocks as far as I know. Uncharted is an IP that started in 2007 and had 4 main games with the last one released 6 years ago already. I did forget Prince of Persia though. So there's that.
  11. How many videogame adaptations managed to debut this high even prepandemic? One? Two? There's definitely reason to celebrate if it goes over 40M. I can only think of those awesome Tomb Raider numbers from 2001. Over 20 years ago and got that 40M on weekend one right? And that was a regular 3 weekend I think
  12. It's just the loud side of the game's fanbase. That's all. The franchise plus Tom Holland will always draw some people to the theater and even a lot of the people that want to hate the movie will watch it. Some older fans of the games wanted Nathan Fillion or someone older than Holland to play Drake...but the truth is, Drake was 31 years old during the first Uncharted game. Tom Holland, who's playing him in a prequel right now is 25. He just has a "baby face" but if they are doing this for a while it totally makes sense to have an actor his age to play Drake. It wouldn't make sense for an actor in his late 40's, early 50's to portray this character in 2022...specially with all the stunts. You can tell Holland did his fair share of them here. Sony is trying to start a franchise here. After watching it, the movie has the heart of the games and after so many delays, directors, etc...the movie could've been a much bigger trainwreck than it was. Maybe i just had low expectations but i watched it ready to not enjoy it (and because i'm a fan of the franchise) but i left the theater wanting a sequel even if the movie has its share of problems.
  13. Nah...but 400M is starting to look more and more likely at least. Which would be more than enough for a sequel to be approved.
  14. I don't get the fake outrage over reviews? It's reviewing better than a Tomb Raiders, Resident Evils, Street Fighters, Prince of Persia, etc...I think it's just not reviewing better than like one or 2 mortal Kombat movies...seems like it's actually getting a better reception from critics than most videogames adaptations. And the opening weekend was honestly much better than I expected. Sounds like a hit for Sony but next weekend will tell a better story.
  15. When they were putting this movie together it was before covid. Yes it was filmed during covid times but i'm sure budget decisions were done way before all that considering how the movie was delayed so many times. I really don't think any movie right now is doing the numbers they had envisioned for them besides Spider-Man. I can't see this doing over $200M WW unless it has China helping and covid restrictions getting worse in early 2022 for some markets...but who knows. Uncharted is a big videogame IP but i can't imagine it being a huge draw. That said, the gamer in me wants this to succeed.
  16. Today is a monday...almost a month since release and i decided to watch Spider-Man again. My movie theater was at 50% of its full capacity. This movie is honestly pandemic-proof, lmao.
  17. The movie did over 600M in a bit over 2 weeks and 3 weekends, did over 50M during this past weekend alone...it's not impossible in any way.
  18. Over 50M during the 3rd weekend and during this pandemic is honestly unreal to me. If you had told me about this only 2 months ago i wouldn't believe it. The fact a Spider-Man movie is at this point only behind the 4 Avengers movies and will end up surpassing 2 of those with ease is a huge feat in a post-pandemic world. I can also imagine how much hype it's creating for Dr. Strange as well. The expectations for that all over social media seem to be at an all time high. It's such a shame the Black Panther movie is surrounded by drama because a year with Dr. Strange, a Thor movie and Black Panther sounds amazing on paper. At this point i can't even imagine when that's coming out...
  19. All that with a budget of 100/110M. Doing 5 x its budget in 2021 during a pandemic is not easy for a huge movie like that.
  20. I mentioned Sony movies a while ago...there's a reason their "exclusive to cinemas" strategy is working. Their numbers show that. Every studio panicked with the pandemic because of huge budgets and a much smaller market at the BO and rushed for these same-day streaming deals...and it backfired. Sony on the other hand stayed the course and decided to sign deals for their movies AFTER their theatrical runs and after a VOD/DVD/Blu-ray window. Only after making bank like this they go to Netflix (for a few months) AND then they get money to have their catalog on Disney Plus "forever". The fact the budget for their movies isn't astronomical (Venom 2 at 110M) and that China is still allowing them to release there as well is basically a huge win for the company. Look at Uncharted...it has an estimated budget of 120M. Even if the movie doesn't break-even at the box office next year, what are odds of it actually losing money by the time it finally lands on Disney Plus?
  21. Why even compare numbers from before and after the pandemic? Venom 1 did over 856M pre-pandemic with 270M from China alone. That's 586M if we forget about China. Venom 2 did 501M without China...and during a pandemic. Still, it only grossed 85M less. It's an incredible result. If anything these numbers surpasses everything expected for Venom 2. Come on now...i remember the posts here with everyone surprised at how well Venom 2 was doing, specially considering critics didn't push for the first OR second movie...yet interest for the franchise seems to be increasing, not diminishing.
  22. The ww numbers for NWH during this entire week will be crazy won't they? Already at 1.1b with monday numbers alone, lmao. Sony's Spider-verse sequel next year + Spider-Man 2 videogame in 2023 (with both Peter and Miles) will be something for sure. Also, this feels like a parallel universe or something...Sony has the #1 movie WW 2 years in a row for hollywood. Bad Boys last year and this year with NWH. I won't even mention the fact both Sony's comic movies this year outgrossed the 3 Disney MCU movies (NWH and Venom 2)
  23. Eternals is the "why was it reviewed this bad?" movie of the year for me. Some of my friends came with me expecting a trainwreck and left scratching their heads on why the reception was this bad (talking about critics here). One of them hated it though. So i guess one thing is for sure. It's a movie that causes strong reactions for better or worse.
