  1. Do we know if Spider-Man is getting a chinese release? Is 2b not a chance for the movie overall?
  2. It's all part of the plan. They are literally using Spider-Man's twitter to promote Uncharted.
  3. Way better trailer than the first one. Feels like a mix between The Mummy movies and National Treasure. I'm in. Sony enjoying that Tom Holland hype from Spider-Man to release the trailer. Smart.
  4. I agree. Also, It's 2021 and Sony's 2 comic book movies outgrossed Disney's 3 at the box office: 1: Spider-Man - Sony 2: Venom 2 - Sony 3: Shang Chi - Disney 4: Eternals - Disney 5: Black Widow - Disney There's no way to spin this. You all know that if a year ago someone had told you guys this would happen you wouldn't believe it. It IS a huge success story for Sony. And no, Sony isn't some poor company, but they are on their way to have one of the most successful comebacks with most of their businesses at the same time and it's fun to watch and root for the underdog here. We all know Disney Marvel will be fine. But this year has been fun to watch.
  5. If it actually surpasses $600M it would be such a beautiful sight! Imagine if that China debut happens next year. With the holidays this could actually do 2b in the end. Even with a pandemic happening. I mean in a week we'll be way past the 1b already...not that weird.
  6. Eternals is at $395M WW. In a week it'll finally cross the $400M. Domestically the movie surpassed A Quiet Place II and No Time To Die this weekend and its now the #5 movie of the year. The movie did do better than Shang Chi internationally, even though it was banned in more places. And it surpassed Black Widow WW although this one debuted on Disney Plus at the same time. It'll end up doing a bit over 2x its budget...not a huge hit but its sequel and whatever they have planned for those characters won't be in danger considering this is the MCU. I was expecting the movie to debut on Disney + this month...but oddly they announced its release for January.
  7. At least it surpassed Shang Chi's international box office while it was banned in more countries. The bad reviews killed Eternals at the domestic box office. Marvel was expecting way more from all 3 of their releases this year for sure...but there was no pandemic back then...or China banning MCU movies from Disney...or the countries that banned Eternals due to that gay kiss. Hopefully they don't cancel what's next for both Shang Chi and Eternals.
  8. Eternals finally surpassed Dune and Black Widow this weekend and is finally behind Shang Chi. It also did better than this one at the international box office. It still has a shot for those $400M ww.
  9. I read that a few days ago somewhere. Multiple articles written about it and I also thought it was weird. Glad its a hit!
  10. That quote can be used for almost every movie because if we consider what all studios expected these movies to do when budgets were attributed before the pandemic all movies are underperforming. If you had told marvel how Black Widow, Shang Chi and Eternals would do they wouldn't believe you. Hell even No Time To Die is losing money even as the biggest Hollywood movie of the year so far. I can only imagine how much money was spent on marketing for movies like NTTD and Black Widow. They had like 3 different release dates, multiple marketing campaigns, trailers, posters spread all over the place since early 2020. But not everything is doom and gloom. We're just used at much bigger numbers and some users here are clearly having a hard time adapting to this new reality. As someone said before, things wil get better.
  11. Reviews really hurt domestic BO for Eternals. Internationally it probably already surpassed Shang Chi at this point since it was 6M behind by Sunday. This disparity is Interesting for sure. A few more days to surpass Dune WW and one more week until Black Widow maybe.
  12. Eternals about to surpass Shang Chi at the international box office somewhere around tuesday or wednesday. I guess it'll end up surpassing Dune WW during the next weekend and Black Widow during next week to be right behind Shang Chi at the WW box office in early December. Shame the movie didn't do as good at the domestic BO but seems like internationally it's doing good. The only other comic book movie above it is going to be Venom 2, which no one expected to do this good a year ago. I had no idea Ghostbusters was mainly successful in the USA. I guess that puts their WW numbers in perspective.
  13. Eternals, a movie that opened in most territories in November 3rd is taking less than 3 weeks to equal a movie that started to premiere in plenty of countries in mid september and opened in the USA 2 weeks before it...that's not a struggle in any way.
  14. Eternals opened exactly like Shang Chi. Basically everywhere on week one. And WW Shang Chi didn't do as good. My point is, movies like Dune already have their sequels confirmed and can't even hit 100M in america after almost a month. It's clear we can't look at the box office now like we used to before. I only posted because it feels like Eternals is being crucified unfaily for its numbers, when it's doing better or similar to plenty of others and i couldn't understand why. Not saying it's happening here on this forum by the way, just in general.
  15. I don't understand the doom and gloom around Eternals numbers when compared to other releases to be honest. After 2 weekends: $282.4 - The Eternals $264 - Black Widow $257.6 - Shang Chi The movie surpassed 300M yesterday. It will probably surpass $350M this next weekend, and $400M after the thanksgiving weekend. About the marketing for the movie: ‘Eternals’ Strikes Lightning With $100M Promo Partner Campaign; Best For MCU During Pandemic In the end the movie will do around Shang Chi numbers and comfortably surpass both Black Widow and Dune next week. If this is disappointing for a post-pandemic world, then Dune, Black Widow and even Shang Chi are huge flops as well.
  16. Grosses DOMESTIC (23.2%) $112,374,808 INTERNATIONAL (76.8%) $372,173,409 WORLDWIDE $484,548,217 Shame it never really got to $500M. It'll stall before $190M
  17. seems like it's missing the big $500M. Is it even crossing the $490M at this point?
  18. It's safe to say it's hitting $450M in less than a week. It's ending up at around $500M / $510M worldwide. Not a huge success for Disney but not a flop as well. Shame to see this doing on par with the first one worldwide (if not better) but having such a hard time to reach only $100M in the USA alone.
  19. After its first weekend, deadline wrote this:
  20. Maleficent is reaching 450M WW with this week and weekend isn't it? Amazing stability overall. 500M is a given honestly.
  21. This is from Portugal right? I just saw Maleficent 2 this weekend...it's weekend 3 and most places have both the movie with subtitles and localized in Portuguese. I went to a subtitled one at midnight on friday and it was packed! I'm really surprised how this movie is turning out to be bigger than the first on international markets. If only the USA had followed we would be looking at this year's biggest surprise at the box office, only surpassed by the Joker, honestly. Maybe Disney will look at these Maleficent adaptations and see people are okay with re imaginations and not carbon copies of their cartoon versions.
  22. Wow. Is it just me or is the second Maleficent doing better than the first movie internationally? It's the USA that's letting the movie down right? Damn impressive considering some people were already expecting the first movie to flop, then the second to do Alice 2 numbers. I'm sure with halloween merchandise and everything considered, this movie will end up doing more than fine for Disney.
