B/c he can't lose.  Rarely does any person or company take on the government and win long term.  You might win a battle, but government, by its very nature, will almost always win the war.  It has, quite literally, all the power.  Especially if the people are on its side, and for now in FL, Ron does have the majority of the people on his side.

So, for Ron, it's an easy win/win - he continues to build national and state political street cred while having little risk that Disney would ever abandon their theme park cash cow no matter what he does, b/c it's literally supporting their D+ ventures,

Knowing CA isn't any better for them (and their only other landing spots, France and China, also aren't better), I'm actually shocked new management actually elevated the war vs seeking a truce.

A truce helps both parties...a war is ultimately only going to help one long term...and not the one we might want.

He can't exactly win, either. He already looks weak after Disney outmaneuvered him. But because his ego can't take an L and move on, his obsession isn't going to help with with people beyond the die hards.

This is where I miss the Ebert style of critic review of “does exactly what a movie based on Mario games should do.”

I miss Ebert in general. He knew when to be a serious minded film critic, but also knew when to have fun watching a dumb popcorn movie.

I wonder how Nintendo feels about the movie, and if they are regretting partnering with Illumination. While I'm sure they will enjoy the financial success, the company also seems to take quality to heart.

As long as it doesn't crash and burn, I'm sure they'll be happy.

If the audience enjoys it, that's what matters to Nintendo.

The OW will be fine, i worry about the legs tho, with such a big opening this is a strong contender for +400M DOM

Let´s hope the audiences will like because the reviews are very bad, 48 on MC now

Illumination movies usually have good audience reception tho even with bad reviews so there´s hope

It'll still do well. It just might not be the mega juggernaut some of us here thought it would be. "Worst" case scenario, it makes somewhere in between $600-900M WW.

I didn't like it. It's probably the best looking movie that Illumination has made, but they haven't sorted things out with their scripts yet. As probably expected it's a cookiecutter of a cookiecutter version of that one other popular animated movie based on a popular brand starring Chris Pratt, but it has nothing to offer of its own apart from some neat animation sequences. I really don't like this Brooklyn setup both feature-length Mario movies have been using, it feels like it only exists because they have no other way of making sense of the fact that he and Luigi are plumbers.

The entire movie is littered with irresponsibly tired needle drops, subpar jokes that lack cleverness or creativity, and characters that can't grow or change. It is a harmless kids film so I can imagine a lot of people giving it a pass, but I liked Minions: The Rise of Gru more. It's hard to fit Super Mario Bros. into a functioning movie but I do think it can be done, but you might need Lord & Miller to pull it off. At least to have something to say about the character or franchise, this has nothing.

Any chance families will like it at least?
