Man, wouldn't this be a welcome twist for DC and Warner Bros.
Now WB just has to market it right, which involves effort. Hopefully they're up to the task.
Certain parties excluded, there's really no "wrong" way to promote this movie.
-
The big takeaway is that the creative heads are regaining the power they had within the company.

Wait a second...
I'm kind of confused about the Disney animation sequel/franchise complaints. Aren't we actually due for sequels?
Back in 2019 I remember Iger (or someone else from Disney, I don't know) saying that after Frozen 2 they were going to focus on original stories. Well, pretty much all the Pixar and WDAS's streaming and theatrical titles (the streaming titles were only such because of covid) since then have been original.
Soul
Raya and the Last Dragon
Luca
Encanto
Turning Red
Strange World
We've got Elemental and Elio coming. Lightyear and Wish are the exceptions, and they aren't even sequels. One is a spinoff and the other is a sort of celebration of all things Disney.
So yeah... I know we'd all ideally like more originals but I think it's fine that they're circling back to do some big sequels, especially if it's with the intent of rebuilding their theatrical audience.
It's a mulligan.

Well, that was fast.

They are definitely confident in this one.

I wonder what properties Disney considers selling to third parties?

Would make sense for that sporting event setpiece to be what they emphasize here
That too. But I think it's mainly because Disney needs this to be a big hit after suffering two major animated flops in 2022. And this is a good first step.

I can't recall the last time a Pixar film got a Super Bowl ad. But I think this could mean a couple of things:
1. They're REALLY confident in this one and think they've got a winner on their hands.
2. They're trying to over correct for the poor marketing campaign of their past animated offerings.
3. They're doing this to celebrate their centennial.
4. All of the above.

Just like what I said a couple of months ago. This is the way to go. No origin story, but his life after college and how he balances everything. Also, if you want this to span a number of movies, you need to start young, at least for this character.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming route.

Will be nice to have an uplifting and not controversial Superman movie for once.

I expect we'll get some updates on that Superman movie, some obscure character, and I don't think we'll get anything from Batman.

Very excited to see how this goes.

Super Mario Bros is gonna be a hit, but I don't think that $1 billion is guaranteed like a lot of people seem to.

I think this looks great, but I am starting to fear that this could go the way of The Suicide Squad at the box office.
I feel the same. Gives me major Dark Phoenix vibes.

SOmething the Snyder fans just don't get.
Warners is not selling off any part of the DCU.
Of course, the Snyder fans have been living in anothe reality for a long time.
BTW I love the on fanboy who can't even remember Josh Whedon's name............
It's hard to find a bigger fan of the Buffyverse then I am, but I admit Whedon did a poor job with JL. That annoying Russian family, for instance.
Snyder never would have had free Reign on JL even if that family tragedy never occurred. After BvS alienated audiences, WB was always gonna keep him on a tight leash.

So, if anything, the main takeaway is to make good movies that appeal to audiences. Lightyear hadconfusing marketing, an even more confusing premise and so-so reception. Puss in Boots had a clearer premise, better promotion, and had less competition along with better word of mouth. Good God, all of the hand wringing and knee jerk reactions are giving me a migraine.
