  1. But figures reflect differently. Last year Avatar OW weekend thread, the 2nd weekend thread and the subsequent holiday weekdays thread all passes 100 pages but this year we hardly hit a quarter of which this year.
  2. It is an exaggeration to say the tide has turned unless Aqua start legging out like Elemental and overtake Wonka as the biggest movie of the season. That being said, the worst is over. Perhaps people need to be a little bit patience with holiday releases.
  3. Aquaman seem to have avoided the total bomb status. The movie managed to make 2.3x from OW on the worldwide level despite China is actively dragging down its hold. First week of January is still a summer break in large part of LATAM and holiday still going in European, 380m WW is where I see is heading. A tight race between this and BA. International % drop to 69% from 74%. I expect that ratio to remain stable from now on. To get to 400m, the NA should do at least 120m.
  4. Nah, WB knows Aquaman has substantial international appeal that no way BB can match. WB is smart here to maximize holiday effect for Aquaman, especially at the international space, knowing that many parts of the world like Asia are not this into Wonka. Also, it wouldn't be nice if Aquaman miss out December, that will allow pundits to make excuse of "it wasn't a December release!" for its flop.
  5. Tbh, I am little disappointed by the performance over the long holiday. BOSS beat FB1 in 5th weekend and 6th weekend (pre-Christmas weekend). That changed somehow as BOSS start losing out to FB1 in between Dec 25 until now and FB1 actually had a bigger competition back then.
  6. Also Ferdinard opening is one week earlier than Migration, leading to holiday season. So the retention through mid-January should be way better.
  7. But Snowstorm affected PIB2 OW too, and weren't we expecting some spillover effect from OW to 2nd weekend? So in a way PIB2 had a inflated 2nd weekend. Still, Migration managed to match it or may come slightly better.
  8. 9.) Hunger Games – Songbirds & Snakes (LG) 1,660 (-849) theaters Fri $1.1M (-8%) 3-day $3M (-1%) 4-day $3.78M Total $160.7M/Wk 7
  9. The general trend are the more adult-skewing, the bigger the Friday bump. Kids-friendly movies only went up marginally. Some even decrease but they hold up better during mid-week. The only the exception is ABY, the holds are best among top yet still enjoy heathy Friday bump. Told ya, abs and boosts always work.
  10. Deadline has HG: BOSS higher at 1.3m, instead of 1m. 7.) Iron Claw (A24) 2,774 theaters Thur $1.398M (even), Wk $11.3M/Wk 1 8.) Hunger Games – Songbirds & Snakes (LG) Thu $1.3M (+23%) Wk $7.8M, Total $157.1M/Wk 6 9.) Ferrari (NEON) 2,330 theaters, Thu $1.19M (even) Wk $6.8M/Wk 1 10.) Boy and the Heron (GKIDS) 900 theaters Thu $832K (-1%), Wk $6M, Total $33.4M/Wk 3
  11. ITSV and Wonka has been my comparison pair between two but Wonka really blew ITSV out after the first Monday. A bit unexpected tbh because ITSV had such a strong WOM that Wonka never come close. It was A+ cinemascore and pretty much everyone list it as one of the best of the year.
  12. Then captain marvels or aquaman should negative cultural impact
  13. - (6) The Boys in the Boat MGM $2,407,618 -2% 2,557 $942 $13,597,924 4
  14. That would makes sense too because HG: BOSS only increase 50%-ish on Christmas Day, far lower than 100% increase that we saw with those movies that were unaffected by the theater counts.
  15. Wish Walt Disney 1,265 1,240 +25 I guess it is just sympatric vote for Disney.
  16. Every movies have a relatively small changes but somehow they shed 800+ locations from HG: BOSS. So there are managers out there thinking BOSS isn't holding as good as it is. Theater Counts for December 29 Movie Distributor Theaters Previous Theaters Change Wonka Warner Bros. 4,115 4,213 -98 Migration Universal Pictures 3,837 3,761 +76 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Warner Bros. 3,787 3,706 +81 The Color Purple Warner Bros. 3,203 3,152 +51 The Boys in the Boat MGM 2,557 2,557 The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes Lionsgate 1,660 2,509 -849 Trolls: Band Together Universal Pictures 1,500 1,639 -139 Wish Walt Disney 1,265 1,240 +25 Poor Things Searchlight Pictures 800 800 The Holdovers Focus Features 236 316 -80 The Marvels Walt Disney 160 110 +50 Saltburn Amazon Studios 112 267 -155 Silent Night Lionsgate 64 203 -139 American Fiction Amazon Studios 40 40 Killers of the Flower Moon Paramount Pictures 37 34 +3 Oppenheimer Universal Pictures 25 17 +8 Barbie Warner Bros 16 15 +1 All of Us Strangers Searchlight Pictures 6 6
  17. Glad that people are responding well to the movie. It would a pity if illumination tried not to overly rely on silly funny to drive their story this round, only to flop terribly. I am targeting 13m 2nd weekend because that 12.5m OW was still loaded with 1.5m preview.
