No way, Titanic is way bigger than EG all factor considered, Titanic doubled JP's gross but EG didn't doubled up from JW. Titanic was the all time grossing film in almost all markets, yet EG got problem even claiming year 2019 number 1 in many European countries or in Japan.

People like to highlight the effect of FX, but avatar isn't the only film that enjoy the FX advantage, all films released during 2009-2014, all enjoyed certain level of FX advantage before us dollar spike a like a gold in late-2014. Yet we only see Avatar hitting 2.7b+ , barely any movie released during this period managed to reach half of the avatar gross although they received the same FX bump like avatar, that including the finale of harry potter series, iron man 3, frozen and first avengers. This alone can clearly tell people just how massive Avatar was given the market size.

So avatar re-release opening day is about rmb 22.5m, about 3.46x multiplier from PS, coincidentally the PSm is also the box office gross in us dollar, about 3.46m Friday, total USD3.5m including Thursday midnight show.

Not sure if it because of late-announcement that cause cinema a hard time to secure a print, Saturday have 55% more show time than Friday and Saturday PS more than double of that Friday's PS. Today's number is a bit boring and standard. The trend remain stable throughout the day, there is no sign of breakout but isn't flopping for a re-release either.

Interstellar and HP1 are the recent major re-release Interstellar Saturday's midnight show: rmb 130k Harry potter 1 Thursday's midnight show; rmb 260k Avatar's midnight: ~200-250k So I am expecting a weekend number similar to HP1 re-release

They may mixed up local currency with us dollar. Although avatar is now the weekend number 1, the number still isn't very high in term of PS, unless they have insider news

Harry potter 1 did about $30m in its last summer re-release, I don't think it is too crazy to think avatar can match this number

Very tricky to judge the final performance based on PS . The film release date was announced so last minute that even some cinemas are complaining they do not have enough time to get prints and to market the re-release properly.

What are you talking about? China's population is 4 times bigger than USA, this country must be terribly freaking wrong if they somehow have a smaller 15-30 aged group smaller than US population. In term of %, both countries have similar share in term of young population.
