  1. Monday - wednesday (08-10 january) box office: 1) Aquaman 2: R$4.7M/ 281.87k admissions 2) Wish: R$4.1M/ 258.54k admissions 3) Minha Irmã e Eu: R$3.2M/ 197.8k admissions 4) Migration: R$2.6M/ 171.32k admissions 5)Mamonas Assassinas: R$1.7M/ 111.29k admissions 6) Wonka: R$1M/ 65k admissions The last 7 days were the most profitable week since the Barbenheimmer week. Really good start of the year. Today Minha Irmã e Eu will pass 1 million admissions, Wish and Migration are locked to be the first two 2024 releases to reach that mark too.
  2. This weekend's screen count: Beekeper: 790 screens Mean Girls: 390 screens Bebel: 252 screens The rollout for Mean Girls is WAY too small for this movie, that will be a problem and a hell of a missing oportunity because right now the pre-sales are looking like this:
  3. By the end of 2023, Brazil have reached a number of 833 working theaters (vs 805 in 2022) and 3500 working screens (vs 3366 in 2022). This means we are close to the pre-pandemic levels (2019 counted 852 theaters and 3507 screens).

Slightly down from the first weekend of last year though, when it sold 1.8M tickets mainly driven by Avatar 2 and Puss in Boots 2. For the second weekend straight Aquaman increased and remained on top. It will soon pass The Flash's R$52M and Quantumania's R$56M, and maybe Across the Spiderverse's R$66M. The performance in the brazilian territory really is amazing, we will have to watch if it can pass Black Adam's R$79M though. Minha Irmã e Eu is now the best selling brazilian movie since the pandemic and should become the first brazilian movie in 5 years to reach 1 million admissions. Ironically (or not) the last movie to do it was Minha Mãe é uma Peça 3 with the same director, Suzana Garcia. Mamonas Assassinas also reached a milestone and it is the 3rd best selling since the pandemic. A much needed win for brazilian movies. Wish and Migration releasing the same weekend was not a good strategy and the canibalized each other. Even so, Wish had a very slightly better opening than Elemental and 3 times the opening of Strange World. Both should see good legs. Next weekend releases Mean Girls, Beekeper, The Holdovers and Chama a Bebel.

December was not good overall, these past couple of months actually were disapointing. For this year I plan to add more tabs on this table to compare 2024 with the last two years. I can tell january will have a lot to prove itself, without a big hit like NWH and WotW there will be the need of multiple movies doing well. Wish seens to be off to a very healthy start and the locals are having good holds, so I hope the box office can start building off to that.
  6. Yesterday Wish opened at 1st and Migration at 3rd. Looks like until wednesday Migration had already made R$3M+.
  7. 2023 have made a total of R$2.3B on the box office, up 25% compared to 2022, and sold 118M tickets, up 21%. From that total only 3% came from brazilian movies. The top distributors were, in order of market share: 1-Universal: 25.05% 2-Warner: 22.31% 3-Disney: 22.09% 4-Paris Filmes: 7.77%
  8. This weekend's screen count: -Wish: 1200 screens -Migration: 1000 screens -Dogman: 90 screens -Priscilla: 89 screens
  9. Box office 28 - 31 december + 01/01 january Movie Box Office (R$) Change (%) Total (R$) Admissions Admissions total (Est) 1 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 10.140.000 +6.9% 33.360.000 459.000 1.630.000 2 Minha Irmã e Eu 4.440.000 --- 6.000.000 207.490 298.290 3 Mamonas Assassinas 3.980.000 --- 3.980.000 194.390 194.440 4 Wonka 2.940.000 +2.7% 36.400.000 138.000 1.880.000 5 Renaissance - A Film by Beyonce 870.000 -81.8% 5.640.000 23.000 156.260 6 Migration (Pre-release) 430.000 --- 430.000 18.310 18.310 7 Napoleon 278.000 -6.4% 19.700.000 8.080 822.960 8 Godzilla Minus One 230.000 -61.6% 4.190.000 10.650 219.240 9 Lord of Misrule 160.000 --- 160.000 7.630 7.630 10 Priscilla (Pre-release) 140.000 --- 300.000 5.990 13.250 R$20.6M was made during the weekend and 963.5k on admissions. (The table above includes the new year's day) How incredible ironic that after a year of bomb after bomb, the very last weekend was when the local movies truly overperformed. Mamonas Assassinas had the best launch for a brazilian movie in 4 years (That of course, excluding the new year's day and pre-sales of Minha Irmãe Eu, otherwise that one takes the feat). Aquaman 2 will soon become the best selling DC movie released in 2023 while Wonka will soon pass 2 million admissions, amazing results for both. The rankings and statistics for the whole 2023 is out but I will wait until next week to report, it is better to wait for the final results. Next weekend is the full release of Migration and Priscilla, also Wish and Dogman. Usually the week after the new year see increases for the top 5 again, not sure if it will repeat this year though with the release of two big animations.
  10. Thursday (28 december) box office: 1) Aquaman 2: R$2.8M/ 143.6k admissions 2) Mamonas Assassinas: R$1.3M/ 73.3k admissions 3) Minha Irmã e Eu: R$1.2M/ 67.5k admissions 4) Wonka: R$1.17M/ 65k admissions Aquaman and Wonka will probably increase this weekend compared to the last. Mamonas Assassinas had the best opening day for a brazilian movie since the pandemic.
  11. Did a rundown on Google Trends on the 2024 movies, over the past few months, these is what it come up to me for the 2024's most searched releases, and some you probably would want to keep an eye on for the brazilian box office next year: 1) Inside Out 2 2) Kung Fu Panda 4 3) Deadpool 3 4) Furiosa 5) Dune 2 6) Kraven the Hunter 7) Madame Web 8 ) Planet of the Apes 9) O Auto da Compadecida 2 10) Gladiator 2 I will say, I am very surprise Sonic 3, Mean Girls and Garfield did not make the list but Gladiator 2 and Furiosa did.
  12. Mid week (25-27 december) box office: 1) Aquaman 2: R$9.5M/ 527.4k admissions 2) Wonka: R$3.3M/ 192k admissions 3) Minha Irmã e Eu (pre-release): R$1.54M/ 90.1k admissions 4) Godzilla Minus One: R$518k/ 30.8k admissions 5) Napoleon: R$352k/ 13.3k admissions All of the top 5 sold more tickets on the weekdays compared to the weekend, some earned more money too. Aquaman 2 already is above 1 million admissions, best week of release of DC this year, and Minha irmã e Eu had an excelent pre-release (from that 11k came from monday, a pretty big increase on tuesday and wednesday). I can't believe we waited to the very last week of the year to have at least one genuine brazilian hit...
  13. Migration's release was moved up a bit and will now release next monday, january 1st. This weekend's screen count: -Mamonas Assassinas: 1034 screens -Minha Irmã e Eu: 1017 screens -Lor of Misrule: 130 screens -Lie With Me: 5 screens Fun fact, these first two are a record of most screens given to a brazilian movie. But that is not because there is a Marvel level expectation on neither but just because last weekend Aquaman took away screens for most movies and theaters have literally no other big release to give the end of the year screens (Aside from Migration, but that will miss the weekend).
  14. The trend from last year and the year before that repeated and box office was massively damaged by christmas. Money was made until friday, and on saturday theaters were dead. Because of that, potential for the Aquaman's opening was reduced by a lot and all of the movies saw huge drops. We should see good legs going forward though, next weekend is new year, last year on that period was pretty depressing with only one movie doing R$1M+ so we will see how this year will compare. Renaissance had the best opening of all time for a concert movie in admits, on box office it came very close but missed Eras Tour by just R$150k. Next weekend releases Lord of Misrule, Minha Irmã e Eu and Mamonas Assassinas.
  15. Technically it have half a day more because most theaters close on the evening of christmas eve.
  16. Aquaman sold on thursday another R$3M and 150k tickets, down from the first movie that sold R$6.5M on their first thursday (though Aquaman 2 is being affected by the upcoming holiday, is still really solid). Beyonce opened in 2nd with R$2.4M and 67.1k admissions. On the admissions, that is the best opening day for a concert movie ever, above Taylor Swift.
  17. Remember that Wonka had two extra days on that list
  18. Monday-wednesday (18-20 december) box office: 1) - Wonka: R$3.84M/ 239.3k admissions 2) - Aquaman 2 (wednesday only): R$3.78M/ 178.4k admissions 3) - Godzilla: R$885k/ 56.8k admissions 4) - Hunger Games: R$601k/ 39.6k admissions 5) - Napoleon: R$413k/ 20.3k admissions 6) - Voo 375: R$363k/ 22.5k admissions
  19. I was trying to be realistic with my prediction but holy crap that fell off the ground. Aquaman 2 made R$3.7M and 180k admissions on pre-sales, that was the best start for a comic book movie in 2023, above the first movie, GotG 3 and almost double of The Marvels. That however, could not translate to a record opening because sunday is christmas eve, usually that date is very weak for cinemas.
  20. This weekend's screen count: -Aquaman 2: 1800 screens -Three Musketeers 2: 260 screens -Renaissance: 200 screens -Propriedade: 30 screens -Quiet Girl: 16 screens
  21. AQUAMAN: THE LOST KINGDOM, NATAL T-1 T-1 Cinemark: 18 showings, 5274 seats, 226 sold (4.29%) T-1 Cinepolis: 13 showings, 1796 seats, 11 sold (0.61%) T-1 Moviecom: 5 showings, 812 seats, 73 sold (8.99%) T-1 Cineflix: 9 showings, 2330 seat, 259 sold (11.12%) T-1 Total: 45 showings, 10212 seats, 569 sold (5.53%) Comps: Flash - 123.43%(R$2.65M) GotG 3 - 110.27% (R$3.31M) Blue Beetle - 338.69% (R$7.11M) Marvels - 278.92% (R$5.3M) Hunger Games - 47.3% (2.41M) ...............huh............. Remember when I said pre-sales where improving? So, Aquaman 2's pre-sales in my city ended up better than Flash and even Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and sooooo much better than Blue Beetle and Marvels. I dunno man...I am kinda scratching my head right now, that is probably the best last minute push I've seen from a movie since I started tracking. Pre-sales of this movie is a bomb everywhere, so there Brazil comes to be once more the bipolar kid in class lol About my predictions...The first one did R$3M on pre-release, I REALLY don't want to bet on this doing equal of that, so my bet is around R$2M-2.5M and I wash my hands and wait to see how this plays out.
  22. On monday Wonka sold 80.6k tickets and Godzilla Minus One sold 22k tickets.

Amazing hold for Wonka, helped by really strong WoM, it managed to pass 1 million admissions already. Godzilla Minus One had one of the best openings for a Sato Co. movie. Hunger Games have passed the admissions of the first movie (It passed the box office a while ago). Voo 375 is already the 4th best selling local movie of the year, meanwhile Tá Escrito bombed really hard, pushing an average of only 4 people for screening! Maybe now they will finally stop giving movies for youtubers...nah who am I kidding, Lucas Netto and Gato Galactico both have movies for 2024's first months... Next weekend releases Aquaman 2, Renaissance, The Quiet Girl, The Three Musketeers: Milady and Propriedade.
