  1. This weekend's screen count: - Ghostbusters: 900 screens - Evidências do Amor: 700 screens - 10 Lives: 360 screens - The Pot-au-feu: 60 screens - A Paixão Segundo GH: 44 screens - After Death: 21 screens - As Linhas da Minha Mão: 14 screens
  2. Garfield have been pushed closer and will now release on may 1st, almost a month before the US release. Civil War's marketing is the most expensive ever from Diamond Films, A24's distributor in the country. It's really strong and its been treated as a big blockbuster.

GxK and KFP4 had excelent holds and both are on the way to become the best selling from their franchises. The First Omen had the best opening from a horror this year, but still a far cry from the big horror openings from last year. Arthur the King opened low, totally expected. Next weekend is a busy one with Ghostbusters, Evidências do Amor, 10 Lives, After Death, As Linhas da Minha Mão and Pearl Jam.
  4. This weekend's screen count: - The First Omen: 666 screens (That was SO on purpose lmao) - Arthur the King: 580 screens - Dream Scenario: 120 screens - Licensa para Enlouquecer: 50 screens - Uma Família Feliz: >50 screens - Till the End of the Night: 6 screens - Musik: 5 screens
  5. On march, 7.5M tickets were sold and R$159.3M on the box office, up 28.3% from last year's march. On the first quarter of 2024, the brazilian cinemas sold a total of R$517.8M on the box office and 26.8M tickets were sold, up 7.8% from the same period last year. Local movies represent 25% of the market share and compared to the box office last year, local movies are up a not even funny 1985.8%. And that is comparing the first quarter of this year to the whole last year!

GxK did indeed beat the pessimistic pre-sales and had the best opening of the year and the best from the Monsterverse, meanwhile KFP4 had a great hold and beat 1M admissions already, while The Chosen passed half a million. More 'Chosen' releases have already been confirmed for brazilian theaters. This weekend had two local movies (Dois é Demais and Dona Lurdes) that had quite a few marketing push so they are probably not happy with their placement on the list. Also we had what I believe is the first time Perfect Days charts on the top 10 since its release. Next weekend will release Arthur the King, Dream Scenario, The First Omen, Uma Família Feliz, The Good Mother and Musik.
  7. $2.5M is being reported as the opening for GxK, R$12M+. That would maķe the best opening from the Monsterverse and possibly of the year.
  8. Like I suspected, no numbers today, we will have to wait longer for any update from Brazil. What I can say though is that walk-ins yesterday and today have been quite good. I am pretty confident those ranges can be beaten.
  9. MID-WEEK BOX OFFICE (25-27 MARCH) 1) Kung Fu Panda 4: R$3.27M/ 170,2k admissions 2) The Chosen: R$1.9M/ 125.64k admissions 3) Os Farofeiros: R$1.4M/ 100k admissions
  10. Godzilla x Kong, NATAL T-1 T-1 Cinemark: 6 showings, 1656 seats, 85 sold (5.13%) T-1 Cinepolis: 9 showings, 1318 seats, 13 sold (0.9%) T-1 Moviecom: 5 showings, 804 seats, 37 sold (4.6%) T-1 Cineflix: 5 showings, 1342 seat, 85 sold (6.3%) T-1 Total: 25 showings, 5120 seats, 220 sold (4.3%) COMPS: Dune 2: (58.8%) - R$940k The Flash (47.7%) - R$1.01M Transformers: RotB (145.6%) - R$1.07M The Meg 2 (500%) - R$5.5M (Ok, ignore that one lol) Slow final day for sure for GxK. Normal comps would put thursday around R$1M and a weekend around R$6.5M-8M. Back in the day Godzilla KotM opened with R$4.7M so despite good legs I remind you again that Monsterverse is not that big in Brazil. But then again, this might all be the holiday in friday messing up the opening day and yes, right now I am seeying some movement for friday. I wished I had better comps but unfortunately we didn't had a case of a big blockbuster opening on thursday with a holiday on friday. Right now better stick from what we have, that would be the realistic expectation. Also due to the holiday the thursday number might not be tracked on friday as usual but I'll do my best to see if I can get anything.
  11. It should and most likely will, Brazil LOVES representation on Hollywood movies. If anything I think they messed up for not using Rio more in the marketing. The marketing for Civil War for example is going all in about having Wagner Moura as the co-lead of the movie.
  12. This weekend's screen count: -GxK: >900 screens -Dois é Demais em Orlando: 420 screens -Mother's Instinct: 140 screens -Dona Lurdes: 85 screens (Cinemark exclusive) -Nada Será Como Antes: 40 screens -Jango no Exílio: 8 screens The holiday on friday might push Godzilla x Kong to a more mediocre opening day followed by a big boost on the second day. To add to this conclusion, the first day is having less screens compared to friday.
  13. Good first day of pre-sales for Godzilla x Kong though not mind-blowing, a little better than Dune 2. Outside of Skull Island, that made R$29M, the rest of the Monsterverse haven't really set the brazilian box office on fire (Fun fact, Dwayne Johnson's Rampage outsold every Godzilla movie in the country lol), it will be interesting to see if this is the movie to change that.
  14. KFP4 managed the second best opening of the year, the best animated opening since Spiderverse 2 and the best Dreamworks opening since How to Train Your Dragon 3. Also the best opening from the franchise in box office, in admissions is down from the last two. The lack of big animated movies until Garfield in may should help a lot, but please don't expect the same insane legs of Puss in Boots 2. Next, The Choosen almost than triple the total of the last one on just the opening, while Dune 2 have more than doubled the total from the first movie, with room for more. Outside the top 4 the drops were not kind and many of these movies will be on the way out the next weekend. Talking about next weekend, it will release Godzila x Kong, Dream Scenario, Dois é Demais em Orlando, All to Play For, Black Bat, Dona Lures - O Filme and Jango no Exílio.
  15. The Chosen opened on thursday with R$1.3M and 69.9k admissions. This is 277% above the previous Chosen and it will completely outsell it's 100k admissions total before the end of the weekend. Kung Fu Panda 4 opened with R$1.2M and 67.1k admissions, best opening day for an animation in 2024 (Above Wish and Migration), best opening day for the franchise and above the third movie by 18%. Overall, the thursday sold R$3.2M and grown 65% compared to the same day last weekend.
  16. 2023 TOP 10 (So Far) Movie Box Office (R$) Admissions 1 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 41.938.492 (80.4M total) 2.093.000 (4M total) 2 Anyone But You 39.180.000 2.116.000 3 Wish 37.200.000 1.941.000 4 Minha Irmã e Eu 34.760.000 1.811.000 5 Nosso Lar 2 - Os Mensageiros 31.760.000 1.605.000 6 Dune Part 2 29.440.000 1.300.000 7 Bob Marley - One Love 22.450.000 1.231.000 8 Migration 22.331.000 1.345.000 9 Os Farofeiros 2 20.950.000 1.100.000 10 Madame Web 18.400.000 1.200.000 With Farofeiros 2 and Dune 2 passing the 1 million admissions we now have 10 movies to reach the mark this year, and this is how the yearly top 10 is looking so far. Compared to last year, 2024 so far is running 4% ahead of the same period. One major difference though is that compared to last year the box office is far more spread out, for example, at this point last year only 4 movies passed 1 million admissions and it would only take until may for 10 movies managed to sell 1 million admissions.
  17. Mid-week box office (18-20 march) 1) Os Farofeiros 2: R$2.4M/ 161k admissions 2) Dune 2: R$1.48M/ 136.5k admissions 3) Imaginary: R$540k/ 36k admissions 4) One Life: R$310k/ 16k admissions 5) Boy and Heron: R$70k
  18. Sorry, I only receive screen counts for the new releases, I never have for the holdovers.
  19. This weekend's screen count -Kung Fu Panda 4: >1100 screens -The Chosen: 1050 screens -Saudosa Maloca: 54 screens -First Day of my Life: 21 screens There are some pretty big expectations for KFP4 in the country.
  20. R$19.9M was made on the box office and 893.8k on admissions, down 27% from last weekend and overall 2nd worst weekend of the year. Os Farofeiros 2 and Dune 2 saw pretty good holds, however the two big releases (Imaginary and One Life) both bombed and pushed down the weekend. The lack of family content is start to show too. Dune 2 is now above 1 million tickets sold while Os Farofeiros 2 should do it today or tomorrow, closing 10 movies so far to reach the mark this year. Poor Things and Boy and the Heron keep having amazing legs, helped by the Oscar buzz. Next weekend should turn things around with the release of Kung Fu Panda 4, The Chosen: S4 Episodes 7-8, Saudosa Maloca, The First Day of My Life and Alice in Terrorland.
  21. MID-WEEK BOX OFFICE (11-13 march) 1)Os Farofeiros 2: R$3.01M/ 201k admissions 2)Dune 2: R$1.85M/ 105.1k admissions 3)One Love: R$29k/ 18k admissions 4)No Way Up: R$330k/ 26.34k admissions 5) Anyone But You: R$270k/ 18.73k admissions Dune 2 is aaaaaalmost at 1M admissions, only 5k more to get there. Oscar boost is already on, with Anatomy of a Fall growing 31%, Past Lives growing 23.1% and Perfect Days growing 2.8%, besides Poor Things, Zone of Interest and Boy and Heron having minimal drops.
  22. As a brazilian I am morally obligated not to say anything bad because Carlos Saldanha is directing it, so I will say that I absolutelly see that for sure there is purple in it.
  23. This weekend's screen count: -Imaginary: 805 screens -One Life: 400 screens -Lilith: 14 screens -About Dry Grasses: 13 screens Expectations for Imaginary must be high, that is a very huge rollout for a horror movie.
