Challengers is a very good movie, even if not like critics were saying. Has a lot of lows but it's somehow a magnetic movie. but it's not for the big crowds...the movie is not set to incredible numbers so i guess most people going this weekend are kinda interested already to the director or Zendaya fans or whatever so they could say they like but i still think cinemascore is gonna be like a B at best.

zendaya doesn't work not only because she doesn't have the psyque du role and looks younger, i mean people can look younger than their age even in real life,... her acting is very mid in general. She has 2-3 scene where she tries something new, for the rest the same two expressions with half closed eyes to look intense or a sulky face.

a gay movie from an unknow director now has a kinda of name. Also when call me by your name reached 3300 copies of distribution?. The widest it went was 900 screens. Of course it's better than opening a movie with someone totally has not a career like Mike Faist. But proving star power means you ha to prove you are worthing your mega cachet, cause the movie costs 55M also for that.

if you put like that yeah. It's showing she has not this incredible star power. But if yoy make a context of an adult drama opener in the post pandemic market (but i would say even some year before that, sadly) going near to the Last Scorsese territory or to Napoleon territory (with 1/4 of the budget) how can we say it's weak- bad?.

Yeah the movie definitely is not a crowd pleasure. The movie has a lot of lows, the anglophone reviews are in a total overrated territory (in europe they are way more tepid) but it's a very interesting and especially well directed movie. I wouldn't even say it's really erotic, as most Guadagnino movies is more sensual than real erotic (basically there isn'a true complete or real scene of people actually staying there naked to make sex). Of course he's very novelle vague on his gaze so you always feel his precence and the movie it's very homoerotic. IMO the biggest problem of the film it's on the acting. Sorry but Zendaya is just an average at best actress. She absolutely doesn't have the range for a role like this, she only works in the initial part when she is supposed to be younger and naive and then for the 80% of her precense it's so one note, monotous, unable to give to the character the complexity should have. If you have a movie with a very "basic" story and the only interesting things about the story is what's stays under the surface and in the "not said" of the characters actors are the most important thing you have to choice, if you have people give the most superficial interpration of characters feelings in every scene the movie lose almost anything. But i understand the only reason people know about this film it's her and more than that, the film probably exists only because she produced it. Josh O' Connor is usually a great actor he misses something too and goes on a very superificial mood in some of the scenes. The real stand out it's Mike Faist. Really, what an actor he's here. One of the Guadagnino great talents it's really to make actors are not "desiderable" (at least for most people and in the most stereotyped way) the sexiest actors you can have in the span of 2 hours of a movie.

but if i didn't get wrong people saying 750K is without previews of the previews. While people saying 2M it's with that included. So it's more like 1.5M or 2M when you put everything together. -
Kinda mediocre start for Challengers (198k) if you think about the promotion, the big number of copies (almost 600 for the weekend) and it was a pre holiday day. Let's see if the WOM will help it but doesn't seems like something will break out. Still could go to 4-5M final territory. Poor things opened with 270K on a casual thursday

i think they're not stupid...the movie will definitely be about how fame destroys a man...a mean hollywood love this narrative and used it even for a character like Elton John, gives to everyone watch him nothing more than the drunk uncle at the parties, just thinks for someone like MJ probably faced this things more than any celebrity ever lived. He was the celebrity of the celebrities. so I don't know if hollywood always has tried to make sympathetic serial killers, mafia people and these soldiers go somewhere to actually sterminate people I guess we can have a little bit of that sentiment for someone just sing and dances too.

of course when a trailer doesn't click with people this explains low sales. That's why trailers exist. My point was bad trailers in general clicks a lot with the GP taste 😂 -
