  1. lol this confirms my suspicions. People who wanted to watch Barbie immediately after (with virtually no gap) always seemed to be of low emotional awareness. That’s not how being ‘cheered up’ works for most people.
  2. It’s funny, the marketing for Oppenheimer has partly consisted of Nolan saying ‘audiences leave the movie devastated, they can’t speak’, and people were like ‘lol right’. Honestly he did give people a heads up. 😌
  3. For me, unlocking the younger audience bit is key. Nolan has a hold on that millennial generation that got hooked on Inception, and it would be great if this somehow expanded his interest among young people once again.
  4. Seems like the target audience is very very happy with it - majority positive reviews. If children and crusty men buy the hype and start attending that might affect the CinemaScore a bit.
  5. Interesting. I was wondering the same. There will certainly be a drop in engagement once Barbenheimer week ends (not sure how much). The key question will be, how much will the movie’s real target audience - the boomers they’ve been blasting TV ads at - then turn up to see it in subsequent weeks.
  6. Wow, was not expecting that from Grace, especially since she was a bit sceptical after the trailer. Bodes well for people on the fence.
  7. Possible. There’s a still released of him in Cambridge University academic robes.
  8. Now I’m not sure how good the CinemaScore for this will be. The vast majority of people are essentially expecting a movie about The Manhattan Project - reinforced by the trailers - and not a biopic spanning 40 years of Oppenheimer’s life.
  9. Interesting, the first properly mixed review (non-French). The screenings are happening today so more reactions coming.
  10. Yes I think there are different pathways to meeting the requirements, including internships and such for underrepresented groups. You’ll bet Universal has it covered.
  11. One of the places it was meant to release was in Egypt on the 19th but they also now delayed it…sad times.
  12. I have the fortune (or otherwise) of living in statistically “the most average town in England”, so thought I’d check Barbenheimer ticket sales for the weekend. Friday: Barbie - 194 Oppenheimer - 52 Saturday: Barbie - 50 Oppenheimer - 38 Sunday: Barbie - 22 Oppenheimer - 17 What would explain these figures converging/ the Barbie drop from Friday?
  13. Barbie review embargo actually lifts on Tuesday 18th (7pm ET), aka 12am Wednesday 19th, UK time, which is what the banner at the London premiere said.
  14. Lol…he also says Barbie fans will destroy Oppenheimer’s CinemaScore. Don’t check out his other tweets about the movie, he kind of spoils the structure…
  15. lol what Nolan excuses? Outside of the Batman trilogy his largest opening is Inception with $63. He’s not known for big openings at all. An opening on par with Dunkirk ($50.5) would have been considered fantastic. You can celebrate Barbie without getting all petty and oppositionist, you know.
  16. A representative for the film reached out to clarify that Nolan's original quote was misreported. The director referred to the film being 180 minutes long, not costing $180 million to make. https://collider.com/oppenheimer-budget-christopher-nolan-comments/
  17. Fair point about high expectations being met. And it does like it’s going to go well with critics, especially for the boldness of the execution. Sounds great so far.
  18. That sounds lovely and all but…it would be good to get reactions from people who aren’t pre-obsessed with the movie and emotionally in love with it before they’ve seen it. Her a few hours ago…
  19. More critic grumbling and grousing about WB and their selective Barbie screening opportunities. 🫢 Anyway, it’s screening to LA press today so maybe we’ll start getting some critical reactions!
  20. It’s funny, Nolan fans are so soberly realistic, bordering on pessimistic. Probably comes from a traumatic history of being let down by the awards performance of his movies.
  21. Yeah they added a bunch of 3.30am showings a few days ago lmao. And tickets are very expensive but still selling well.
  22. Curious to see the worldwide reception for this. It’s smashing presales in the likes of India, Pakistan and in various Middle East countries. Someone on Nolan fans forum mentioned that theatres in Poland are busier than they’ve been for the likes of Avengers or Avatar. The premiere and SAG strike has been on the front page of major newspapers here in the UK today which seems like a fortuitous marketing outcome.
  23. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! On a scale of 1-10 how ‘risqué’ are the sex / nudity scenes? 🥸
