I'm watching all of the top summer blockbusters in a row, starting with Jaws in '75. Tonight it's Jaws and The Omen.
Going to watch through Finding Dory in 30 days. Anyone wanna tag along?

What's everyone watching tonight? I picked up Grease 2 on Netflix. My first time watching since I was a kid.
What an absolute pile of shit.

Not really. Angry Birds was the first animated movie of last summer, and it just made around 105M. I've seen a lot less marketing for this movie, not to mention I think more kids know about Angry Birds than Captain Underpants anyway. I'm expecting something around Ice Age 5 or Storks numbers.
Welp. You called this one!

I haven't seen Roger Rabbit in years.
Although I did watch Red Heat two nights ago. Pretty entertaining.
It's on Netflix. I watched it on my phone while the electricity was out during a storm.

I don't think it will come close to that. The last one didn't do all that well.
But then again, who knows.
Yeah, the last one did $190 million. In 2011.
I don't see this one hitting $200m.

I watched Roger Rabbit this weekend. First time in several years.
Still as entertaining as ever.

No worries, you're new, you don't know all the ins and outs of how we do things. The Review thread also offers a poll where you can give the movie a grade, if you want.
I'll take his punishment. ?

The only way in which to compare the Chrises is to see which one dicks me down the best.

Tell that to the Alien franchise.
GBRL that's not a sacred franchise! That's two classic movies and other stuff.

Dear Gore,
please salvage this once sacred franchise

A franchise can't be sacred if two were good but the rest trash.

Wonder Woman felt almost like Captain America the First Avenger
from the setting, the plot, the journey, the love story, even down to the film's ending. C'mon 2 people named Steve on a plane, I'll just leave it at that. But I think WW did it just a bit better.
Patty Jenkins could've made a real nice Cap movie too.
The characters both first appeared in 1941. It was a template at the time.
You think this is bad? Wait until you see Thanos and Darkseid.

This franchise was popular when I was young, but not like Jurassic World or BatB where it captured the zeitgeist. It was popular but not really lasting.
I think this will perform more like Goosebumps. Summer Game I put 90m, I can see it barely going over 100m. 90-105m.
That is unthinkable for the first animated film of the summer.

Y'all, the books are popular in the elementary set. I honestly see this doing over $50m

We've been out since May 11.

...because it's an American industry. Movies are filmed here. Financed here. We're also the biggest market.

Talking about the specific WW screenings is fine. But any larger conversation about sexism, gender issues, Marxism, etc should probably go somewhere else.

Do you think "ladies night" is discriminatory?
Why or why not?
I believe people should be allowed to run their businesses however they please.
But, there are civil rights laws in place to make sure that this doesn't happen.

Oh damn, you're right. The only really good movie that summer.

I mean, I'm not threatened by a women-only screening. It's against New York state law, but whatever.
I don't even think it's women-only, because they sold tickets and anyone could purchase them.

This summer kinda reminds me of 2005. Probably because that summer had a lot of high-profile disappointments and a couple of hits (10 movies released between the beginning of May and the end of August made $100M+), including the deadly back-to-back combo of The Island and Stealth (which prompted a bunch of articles speculating how it was possible for a $100M+ summer big budget extravaganza to post numbers that dismal).
Damn, I had forgotten how terrible that summer was.
War of the Worlds was ok and I still enjoy Wedding Crashers, but just about everything else was awful.

Baywatch needed to take cues from the '90s Addams Family and Brady Bunch movies on how to adapt cheesy TV shows successfully.
What a turd.
