Love the Coopers (2015)
Starring: John Goodman, Diane Keaton, Alan Arkin, Amanda Seyfried,
Directed by Jessie Nelson
Box office: Not enough (26 million)
A film ignored by most, disliked by many and loved by me. It does everything right. The chaos of the season brings together a family on the verge of disaster. The patriarchs of the family on the verge of divorce, the avuncular figure is lonely and only finds solace in the young waitress who he talks to at the diner. There is sibling rivalries and jealousy and a dog who has seen it all. The setting of the film is always really important to me as well. It's one of the things that Almost Christmas did wrong this year. No snow, very few decorations and no Christmas music. Love The Coopers has it all. And with the dysfunctional family finally putting aside their somewhat petty differences, it seems as though everyone is going to live happily ever after. I love the spirit of the holidays and this is a film where people who truly love each but along the way have forgotten that, learn to find it again. It's a wonderful holiday film and I hope some of you find a way to give it a chance.
I wasn't a fan but I was glad that the fucking dog didn't die.

I like your presentation here. I don't feel the same momentum for Moana that those films had - even Tangled, which got a lot of shine because it was a Disney animation release at a time when Disney's own brand was still regarded as being in a slump, a weak sister to Pixar's.
But we shall see, and if you're right, I'll tip my hat.
Uh, the Moana soundtrack just jumped into the top ten on Billboard and has a top ten song on iTunes. The Tangled soundtrack never even charted.
There is way more buzz about this than Tangled ever had.

Trapped In Paradise (1994)
Directed by George Gallo
Starring Nicolas Cage, Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz
Box office: 6 million
Nicolas Cage plays the great straight guy while his 2 brothers played by Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey supply the comedy value, in this hugely entertaining and funny movie. Things don't go to plan when the Firpo brothers try to rob the peaceful town of Paradise and get stuck there on Christmas Eve, only to find that they have robbed the nicest town on earth. I think Cage is great in this film, like in 'Peggy Sue Got Married', 'Family Man' and 'It Could Happen to You' he plays a lovable character that is full of emotion which you just can't imagine anyone else playing. There's also a great moment in the film where he loses his temper and he almost transforms into Castor Troy from Face/Off. If you're a fan of Nicolas Cage and not just the action stuff, you should see this movie and it's even better at Christmas time. It hits a lot of the Christmas beats you hope to see in a Christmas film. And it definitely has its heart in the right place.
Interesting. I love Jon Lovitz but have never heard of this one.

lmao I remember when that album first came out. "All I Want for Christmas is You" will indeed outlive us all.
She makes like $5 million a year from that song alone.

The whole time I was watching Sausage Party I was thinking there wasn't enough gay in it.
Then I got to the end. So much anal.

12% separates the best from the worst. That's a pretty close range.
Deadpool and Civil War were also released outside of summer.

Strong weekdays because school is still out in many regions.
That doesn't make this drop remotely OK. It's terrible.
It's right in line with the other superhero movies this year.
Deadpool - 57%
Civil War - 59%
Apocalypse - 65%
Suicide Squad - 66%
Batman vs. Superman - 69%

The Suicide Squad soundtrack debuted at #1 on the Top 200 with over 180k SPS.
It also looks to stay #1 this week.

I'm hoping for slightly smaller that that so that it stays above $10m.
32% would be $9.7m.
