  1. San Andreas' final gross may end up slightly higher than MMFR. Mojo made a mistake with JW's weekend number? The site is also slow to update, foreign section completely abandoned.
  2. i still don't know why he got the gig in the first place. His first film is Safety Not Guaranteed, a low-budget, quirky, scifi romance. He probably wants to go back doing something like that.
  3. It is not completely ridiculous to say that Furious 7 & JW become two of the biggest movies of the year in the last 6 years solely because of those clips above.
  4. Because a lot of guys did this to their girlfriends last Friday: "I wanna see Magic Miiiiiike!!!!"
  5. Mission Impossible movies since Ghost Protocol seems to be turning into a Fast & Furious movies where the stunts are really the focus.
  6. I think I remember there is a report how China considers time travel as a form of false religion and would restrict the entry of such movies with extreme prejudice.
  7. That is just too bad. Because Minions will destroy everything next week....
  8. Last Friday gross for both IO & JW is about 27% - 28% of the whole weekend take. Using the same multiplier, is it possible for these 2 to end up with high 30s?!!!
  9. Actually after the persistent downgrades for TG all week long, that $9-10M is not so bad...
  10. It's never gonna be released in China or they are still debating...?
  11. I ordered a beef/chicken dish, they brought out some rice in a salty broth
  12. Machines, strippers, Dinosaurs and one neurotic girl. Has there been a Fourth of July like this one? Wait a minute: Machines & dinosaurs make a girl neurotic. Solution? Male strippers!
  13. There yo go. There is no director in the house. But some of the scenes in the movie are not even well directed, no editing can save them. Performances are often off. The is not a happy production. Emilia whom I consider a rather bland actress is poor casting. She is too angelic, look at those baby-fat cheeks. Compare to the real 0% fat bad-ass warrior: ---and this: No offense to Clarke, she probably has a nice career after Game o'Thrones (she's already having a nice career because of GoT), but she is not right for the genre. GA expects a bad-ass Linda Hamilton. Probably they are marketing this to Asian audience who prefer baby faces for their actresses. A case in point, a Chinese actress called Angelbaby which Fox cast in an alien invasion movie..lol. Hollywood is only thinking of Chinese audience. Say bye-bye to US audience. Google this: chinese actress baby face
  14. I meant that one, lol. Come on seriously The Abyss is pretty good until the 3rd act, theatrical cut or the other cut
  15. Yes, yes, Scorsese's Aviator, Gangs of NY, and Wolf are good to very good (Departed is OK) when compared to his best, or even to his minor masterpieces like Casino. What I am saying is even the great ones have hiccups. T5 is made by a committee not a guy with a singular vision. The cast & crew of T5 are without their fearless leader. Movies need fearless, visionary mad genius to work, to inspire. I wouldn't want to work under James Cameron. But you can tell he is a driven, relentless, mad visionary even in his later days. CGI-fest Avatar still kicks ass.
  16. My apologies: I should say: "the same level of passion he showed in Goodfellas & Raging Bull.."
  17. Talent alone is not enough Cameron made The Abyss, passion project that is plagued by production problems .Even though the CGI is ground breaking, the 2 leads put up a very strong performances, and the action is still Cameron at his best, but the movie suffers from a rather bland, preachy, anti-climactic 3rd act. Michael Mann did Blackhat. This is the guy who did Heat, Collateral, Miami Vice Series, Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, Insider. What could go wrong? Some people are just semi-retired. And they probably took some project for mind exercise or to keep themselves busy. Scorsese never made a boring movie. But his last few ones: Gangs of New York, Aviator, Wolf of Wall St, and especially Departed, do not contain his passion for filmmaking he showed in Goodfellas, Raging Bull or Taxi Driver. Who runs Skydance again? Viacom which owns Paramount has a new CEO, a lawyer, since 2006 when Sumner Redstone stepped down.
