  1. Update on Reopening cinemas in Australia.

    Source :- Inside Film - https://www.if.com.au/kriv-stenders-brock-over-the-top-takes-the-pvod-route-as-more-cinemas-re-open/

I've noted that the expectation is currentlky the first major release is Mulan here in Australia. so most will be playing re-runs of older films rn.

    Majors

Capital cities ~ either 25th June or 2nd July

    (Per comments by Hoyts CEO)

    Reading Cinemas

    • Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia -  Opened last thursday
    • Queensland - this thursday (today here)
    • Victoria - 22nd June
    • NSW - to be confirmed

(I just checked and indeed, Reading has reopened in QLD - at least newmarket has - pretty much showing the films that were in play when cinemas closed ~ there does appear to be less sessions available than normal too.  the latest session is 7.15pm (there no 2 sessions starting near each other)

    Village Cinemas

    • Tasmania - already open
    • Progressing open rest of country from 22nd June to 2nd July

    Independants

Melbourne - Classic, Lido, Cameo, Wallis - reopen 22nd June

The Ritz (Sydney) - 1st July

Wallis Cinemas - NExt Week ?

Endgame admission I am told is around 5.3mn, the numbers for Avatar looked like actuals, so I thought maybe some site is updating it. Checked screen Australia found nothing.

I got the 5.8 by dividing the total 84m by the average ticket price (14.5) on the screen Aus website. I suspect the average may be higher for the big blockbusters where people are willing to pay more premium to see a film.

from where did you get this data, is it updated since that?

A lot of the info was sourced from a site that no longer exists (moviemarshal). However more recent releases can be calculated using info from screen Australia.  (Ave ticket price). The older has been calculated over the rereleases - at least site I lifted part of this from made sense in that way.

For reference I have endgame at around 5.8m admissions (estimated - $ / ticket AVE) which is good enough for 9th.

  4. This move smokes of WB trying to hold the July date as much as possible but given the current situation with covid #'s increasing, they don't want to start the final marketing push yet (If i remember right, studios normally do their final marketing push from about the 5 weeks out mark).  so they are playing coy, pushing tenet by 2 weeks (and all the flow on impacts to the release calendar) and see how the current situation plays out.  If goes downhill, then a bigger push is on and probably most of august along with it.  If it holds or improves again then it's possibly a green light to start said marketing for tenet and push towards the July 31 date.

the ball is in disney's court now, do they hold mulan @ 24th and risk it, or .... well who knows...

  5. the biggest thing i note regarding cinemas is they are now allowed to officially open for up to 20 people per auditorium. There is a * i did note that more could be allowed with an approved covid safe plan in place... maybe, just maybe we might see some cinemas here open pre July 1 ? (if i've read this right).  not sure about other states though i'd imagine SA & WA are close to the same position.

  6. So QLD is allowing full Intra-State travel from midday tomorrow / holidaying again + up to 20 visitors per household at once (must continue to meet 1.5m social distancing)

also allowed up to 20 people per room as per the below snapshot... - thats cafe, restaurants - i did note concert venues / theatres are mentioned in there though i'm not sure this will reopen cinemas just yet, however i could see gold class reopening as they only can take a max of 24 - 48 anyway so a limitation of 20 isn't much above that.  still we are on the right track here... QLD has 5 active cases with 1 in hospital and 1 in icu.

Crossing fingers this all works... Still no interstate travel (and obviously no international travel) without exemptions or quarantine.

Are any of the X-Men movies even on Disney+?

In Australia. From the x-men franchise only Logan and the 2 Deadpool films are missing. All 3 fantastic four films are on D+ here too.

I should note all of the mcu films are excluding the Spiderman and hulk films.  interestingly the TV series are all there excluding agents of shield which has season 1.

  8. Well in QLD, there is discussions of Cafe's / Restaurants reopening in June.  Of course NRL (Rugby League) is planning to restart on 28th May.  Pretty sure it will be empty stadiums though.  There has been discussions around cinemas reopening with checkered layout seating (50%).  Can't imagine we will get far into June before they open if things keep going as they are here (QLD).

  9. is it just me or there seems to be about a top 20 or 30 that are appearing in everyone's lists but beyond that it's a rather wide ranging selection with some of those even making it into the top 10 films of some lists.....  (just seems more erratic than other lists being created....

My top 50 is in :)

@Cap - amazingly we have the same #1 film ;)

I'm surprised they pushed it far back as November, mainly because (spoilers, both for the Black Widow movie and another Marvel thing that if I say the name of kind of gives away the spoiler)

while disney haven't announced as yet i'd imagine those releases on Disney+ (TV Shows) are likely delayed also.... can't imagine much work is being done on them right now ?

I’m a little ashamed that I didn’t even realize that. They should’ve scheduled it a week earlier. It would’ve been perfect.

Actually i think they are targeting the President's Day Long Weekend with that release date which is probably going to more lucrative that opening on valentines day - maybe they do a wide preview on valentines ;)

  12. Ok so cases are up to 1893 now. but this still excludes QLD, WA, SA, Tasmania and ACT at this point.  I'm aware that QLD is +78 on this already, so i'd say we will be clearing 2000 cases in Australia today.

Also for reference the total ICU beds in Australia is 2229

    (874 NSW, 476 VIC, 413 QLD, 44 ACT, 50 TAS, 188 SA, 22 NT and 162 WA)
