  1. In addition to the above :

    - All Australians are urged to cancel non-essential Domestic Travel

    - South Australia to close it's borders as of Tuesday [I think it's now only a matter of time before all State Borders in Australia are closed now]

[i'm not bringing up all the stimilus packages that have been announced]

Given all of the above, I'm starting to think that that this will be last week cinemas are open here in Australia for sometime.

  2. UPDATE :

Cabinet Session has been called for tonight (Australian Time) to discuss a potential lockdown of all non-essential services.   NSW and Victorian Governments are pushing for a lockdown at this meeting.  Apparently Victoria will go it alone if the remainder of the country does not (schools will close as of Tuesday for example).  Northern Territory and Tasmania Borders have also been closed effective immediately.

  3. Expecting an epic drop off this weekend with cinemas now restricted to maximum of 100 per theatre and also enfourcing the every 2nd seat in use going forward (some theatres will have smaller capacity than 100 as a result) Beyond that, i very much doubt that many will go to the movies this weekend given the recent escalation of cases here (+170 odd today been gradually increasing in the past few days more and more - nearly 900 cases in total, with more than 30% in NSW, most concerning for NSW is the increase in local transmission of the virus bumping up to 63 now)

wondering how much longer cinemas will hold out before the larger chains start closing....... beyond Onward there is becoming large gaps in the wide releases...... (as you would expect)

Stay safe and healthy out there everyone!

  4. Just reviewing How Event are doing this, and while most cinemas are running a max of 100 tickets and only sell every second seat, it appears Gold Class while obviously not hitting the max limit is ignoring the social distancing by selling all of its seats......

I'll probably only go if Onward is still coming out soon.

Onward is previewing this weekend if you look around it's got lots of sessions on Saturday and Sunday.  Pretty sure it will be out fully from next thursday along with Trolls (both i believe are still planned to be released to cinemas)

EDIT :-  Trolls i've just found out has shifted out to a September Release here ?????? so they aren't going to try the VOD thing in Australia then ?

  5. This is the latest QLD update for reference... not quite as detailed as the NSW though.

those results don’t look horrible. Possibly a little down but im not convinced the COVID19 virus has had a major impact like in the states.

also is onward and trolls both coming out next Thursday? (26/3) (I saw an report that no further markets were opening for onward).

Both still listed as coming soon for Thursday on event.

edit - only trolls has times available for Thursday week So uncertain on onward.

edit 2 - onward is previewing this coming weekend

  7. While cinemas so far here haven’t been heavily affected so far, it’s probably only a matter of time now. Anyway the April schedule is beginning to look very bare with the recent delays.  Very much doubting black widow stays too (30/4)

while I expect onward to open next week I’m wondering trolls may yet move (it’s also due next week)

  8. Ok so SW9 should land in third place for 2019 when all is done and dusted. (a bit lower than i imagine Disney would have thought a few years back).  Disney now owns the top 5 films of 2019 also.  In fact there is only 3 films not released by Disney in the top 10!  And 1 of those 3 is part of the shared universe that disney owns.

Frozen 2 will likely stay in 8th (though should pass Spider-man).  Jumanji TNL should have enough in the tank to pass both films and should threaten a top 5 finish of 2019 (there a good chance that Jumanji goes close to surpasses SW9's final as both are trajectories close to 50m at the moment.

  9. Jumanji TNL continuing it's strong run here with a running total of > 32m while SW9 finally crossed 40m, 50m is looking a little shakey at this point in it's run.  Frozen 2 has passed 35m also now and has an outside shot of 30m though still thinking a finish around 38m is more likely at this stage.  Unless 1917 explodes (which isn't out of the realms of possibility i might add, i think Jumanji should 3-peat in the top spot before Dolittle / Bad boys duo steal it's thunder a week later.

    10. How to Train your Dragon: Hidden World - 23.90m

    Jumanji : The Next Level - 20.11m*

SW9 enters the top 10 of 2019.  Jumanji hovering just  outside.

    Opening Weekends - Top 10 2019

    1. Avengers: Endgame - 34.12m

    2. The Lion King - 20.54m

    3. Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker - 17.97m

    9. Toy Story 4 - 8.03m

    10. Aladdin - 7.59m

Jumanji manages the top 5 of 2019 openings pushing Spider-man to 6th.  massive opening in comparison to the  domestic  opening.  (thats the equivalent of a 130m OW in the US - another comparison ~ US opening was the 15th highest  of 2019 while in Australia it was was the 5th highest opening of 2019.)
