Maze Runner 2 will pass 4m very soon. Everest will push for 2m this weekend. Intern seems headed for at least 2.5m with a chance at 3m. Dreadful for Attack on Titan 2. Its increase over last weekend's 2 day opening took 7 days. PK is slowly but surely on its way to 1m. Hotel Transylvania 2 is looking pretty good at the moment. It's looking like its 3-day (SSM) previews passed $150,000. Others: Inside Out passed 8.5m. Mission Impossible 5 has raked in 6.845m.

Based solely on these, I think it could get up to 50,000 admissions on Thursday. It still has a long way to go. I think it could potentially secure around 15,000 admissions if walk-ins are really brisk. 12,000 admissions should be its ballpark figure for today. Great for The Intern. Decent for Everest. Weak for Office. Maze Runner 2 is being rushed out quite quickly. Very good for PK. That looks terrible for Hotel Transylvania 2.

Nearing half full for the 11 AM morning show already on Thursday at a few locations. Lots of places are holding back showtimes or have not released their Thursday schedules yet. Tomorrow should give us a better picture as to where everybody stands. Currently though, Martian looks to be on 2-3 screens, Intern gets 1 screen, Office gets 1 screen at Broadway/AMC. Hotel Transylvania 2 is getting mixed results so far. Most will schedule it on 3 showings though. 1 theater has it on full day showtimes while another has only given it 1 showtime.

Not many people saw this coming. It'll pass 2m by next weekend. Reviews are shaping up to be superb with it still marking a 4.8/5. Everest is holding up pretty well. 3m might happen in around 2 weeks time. Maze Runner 2 might not be holding all that well but it will join its predecessor as one of only 2 films to bank more than 4m. It will pass the first film by the end of this weekend. Office was not very busy this weekend. A lot of admissions came from older people and overall reception does not seem to be good. Attack on Titan 2 succumbed to the first film's bad word of mouth. This weekend turned out to be a disaster and it won't make even half of the first film. It won't even make the opening weekend of the first film. PK will close the gap and essentially tie Titan for #5 this weekend on Monday. Excellent hold to increase from last weekend. Hotel Transylvania 2 is doing pretty well in previews. It should double the first film which only got a theatrical release after the DVD/Blu-Ray came out...and it still grossed nearly 1m.
  6. This is #1 in Hong Kong and its 4-day weekend is estimated to be equivalent to $33m USD (from USA alone -- $760k USD) and 5-day weekend is being projected at a magnificent $48.4m USD (Monday is a holiday here -- $1.1m USD). User rating is the highest I've seen in the past few years with a 4.8/5 average so far.

Maze Runner 2 had a rough hold but it will pass 4m with ease by next weekend. Office was the major loser this week. It featured a star-studded cast but failed to connect with young audiences. I thought the trailer was a huge miss as it did not mention what the plot was about. Attack on Titan 2 had a terrible hold falling 44% from its 2-day opening weekend last week. The holiday Monday did not seem to help affairs as it fell on Sunday from Saturday. Outside the top 5, PK continues its great run. Also in the mix was Hotel Transylvania 2's special screenings. By Monday, it will have grossed over $100,000 in previews. Tomorrow will feature 5-day projections/estimates and perhaps an update on how The Martian is doing.

  21. Well, the distributor has set the release date for Our Times for October 15, clearly trying to replicate Apple of My Eye's success in 2011. Apple of My Eye appealed to many HK'ers because of the subject matter. This one has the same formula but whether it will appeal to HK people remains to be seen. There is some major competition on October 22 (Black Mass, Legend, Last Witch Hunter, Goosebumps and Bridge of Spies all come out) so legs will be cut short, however, it does have the holiday on October 21. I'd say 4m is achievable but it needs to open well otherwise theaters will cut it in favor of new films the week after. Apple of My Eye used to be in the Chinese section but they must have revamped the list. My above post has been amended to Top 50 Local Movies instead of Chinese Movies. 23. Wish I could help, moudoudou, but no one tracks admissions here, only gross. And even then it is spotty. Most of the sources have dried up in the past few years with most shutting down while others revert to rounding numbers to the thousands. HK MPIA and the box office corporation that tracks movies here are very secretive. If you are not a theater exhibitor, theater operator or certain media, you are not allowed access to the numbers. 25. Olive, I have to say that last weekend really exposed Cinetel as not being a very reliable source. Last weekend wasn't the first time that the numbers did not match up with the running admissions from theaters. I recall the Love Live! opening weekend where its admissions were not being reported properly on wmoov and its number on Cinetel was below what it should be. I think Cinetel makes up the numbers based on wmoov's admissions. Be careful if you're using Cintel as a source as sometimes wmoov can be very wrong. Broadway/AMC will only give schedule it on 3D with 1 or 2 showings. The real surprise is that out of the 2 business district theaters, only 1 3D showtime will be shown on Thursday. Usually they will gladly run 3D for most of a film's run. Even Inside Out did not switch to 2D until its 5th week at those theaters. Maze Runner 2 will be shown on 2 screens almost everywhere. Pre-sales remain the best of all films on Thursday. Everest shuffles into theaters in 3D and 2D. 3D will mostly be used for the morning and 7 PM showtimes. Pre-sales are slow once again. American Ultra heads to theaters behind the expected top 2 in Maze Runner 2 and Everest. Scheduling is all over the place with some theaters behind the film with full day showtimes while others like MCL are only leaving this with 3 showtimes. Pre-sales are very slow. Guia in Love, The Merger and La Famille Bélier are the other openers on Thursday this week but won't be contending. The 2nd Attack on Titan film, End of the World, will be released on Saturday. Pre-sales are not bad so far. It will be interesting to see how the addition of Titan will affect both the new openers and holdovers this weekend. No Escape and Love Detective remains the big holdovers this week. At this stage, Love Detective has a better outlook than No Escape with more theaters showing this on Thursday. No Escape is gone from half of UA theaters. PK drops back down to 6 theaters with Everest kicking into IMAX this week. Besides those 3 holdovers, there will be a massive culling of the rest. Pixels and Hitman shrink to just 1 theater on Thursday and Mission Impossible does not fare much better with 2. Inside Out has longevity on its side as 10 theaters will keep it on weekdays for another week. Worthy of noting is that the one theater that is giving Inside Out a 7 PM showtime on Thursday is surprisingly beating out all other films' 7 PM showtimes at this moment.
