I like Avatar 2 though, but it was part of Fox merger. While Fox permanently ruined Alien way before Disney, they somehow managed to make even worse decisions than Fox brass, it's like Alien and Terminator franchises are some sort of Twilight Zone for studio executives where each subsequent regime somehow makes even worse decisions than previous one. I'd love to see Kathleen Kennedy taking over Alien because she would still do a better job than all previous higher ups and producers responsible for it.

There's only 1 truly bad Alien film and that's Alien: Resurrection.   Terminator is a whole different story, everything after T3 is absolute dreck.  Genysis is one of the most baffling big budget studio releases of all time.

Wait, how on Earth I’m just hearing about this now?

There’s part of the same ol’ crowd worried that Phoebe is taking off Indiana Jones role when she is a massive old school Tomb Raider nerd and wants to write and produce a Tomb Raider show more inspired by the old games?! The nerds are truly taking over, I could never imagina she was a Lara Croft fan.

It doesn’t seem like she is thinking about playing her either, despite me thinking she could. Very intrigued by this.

I think something like Dune winning 2021 or Top Gun last year (I prefer EEAO) would be a better examples of this. Those are movies a lot of folks watched and were critical darlings as well. There are more then a few examples in the history of the Oscars where some of the biggest movies of the year at the box office were winning BP.

Titanic, Gone with the Wind, Return of the King, Gladiator, Forest Gump, The Sting, both Godfathers, The Sound of Music.

I'm not saying that is what needs to happen every year. And I think last year, was a good example of a film that didn't have the all time box office return, that was clearly a audience favorite. But things use to be different. Big films audiences loved won.

Gladiator(I see it went up from 75% to 80% on RT) and Return of the King winning were such good years, indisputable classics and populist cinema at its most polished.  And a few years later you had The Departed and No Country For Old Men winning.  Like, films people actually watched and still remember and watch to this day.  Hell, American Beauty was around the same time too.

  3. Assuming this isn't some massive psyop, are the Western war enthusiasts giddy with excitement at the prospects of a meaner, crazier Russian leader taking over the world's largest arsenal?  After all, Prigozhin and his Wagner PMC are pretty much the only group on the Russian side of the war that has consistently defeated the Western led, trained, and equipped Ukrainian military on the battlefieldwrestling 3 big cities from their control.

If post Cold War world history has taught us anything, US sponsored regime changes always go smoothly with no unintended consequences or something worse!  Careful what you wish for.

  4. Just opened this thread and wow, The Flash doing just 55m 3-day?

I mean I barely follow box office anymore due to Hollywood's business model of endless middling/low quality franchising and/or superhero shit but 55m OW is enough for me to come into a weekend thread to LOL so bravo WB/Zaslav

I guess maybe people just didn't want to see a lame duck Snyderverse flick led by an unstable women beating asshole and insane person.

If you are talking about the poster I think you are talking about you missed the most important point:

His whole "I hate everything" shtick is old and boring.

In this year's "Turning Red didn't mention 9/11!" overblown Twitter Discourse over a Disney movie...

Poor Little Mermaid, too woke for the right yet also not woke enough for the left apparently. You know, there are actually fantasy books about Black mermaids vs the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Maybe some will get adapted as movies someday, but probably not by the Disney Princess division, be serious now.

In the real world, the weekend hold is looking good so far.

it increasingly feels like every fucking movie/TV show is now a battleground in the culture wars

KOTM is the wet dream of every Godzilla fan. The script is terrible, but all the monster scenes are amazing. I will forever be thankfull for Michael Dougherty that he made this movie. When it comes to willingly overlook flaws with a movie, im even worse with KOTM than i am with the Jurassic World sequels.

KOTM only fixed one of the problems with Gareth Edward's Godzilla 2014 movie which was actually showing the monsters, but it still didn't have any real thrills or fun with it.  Its just so drab, dour, and lifeless with no excitement in it.  This was the same problem with his Star Wars movie imo where everything was just so boring.  Also, if you're doing an extended monsterverse, introducing and killing off Ghidorah in 1 movie feels like a mistake.

It took 3 movies but Hollywood to finally figured it out with Godzilla VS Kong.  Well done guys.

So you're saying that the 95% is fake and most of those verified reviews are fake? And cinemascore is fake? Is that what you are implying?

I wouldn't really pay attention to any online ratings for movies/IPs that get mired in the culture wars where there is a lot bots, review bombing, & counter-review inflating.

  9. Lol, if there is one thing Blizzard can still do (mostly) right its their cinematics so that trailer is especially weird(and bad).  Remember that crazy 9 minute announcement trailer for Diablo 4 a few years ago?  That shit was hype AF, so much so that I even considered getting back into gaming for it.  Unfortunately modern Blizzard is nothing like its glory days (1991-2010ish) so it probably won't be all that good.

    I agree

    1. Raiders

    2. Last Crusade

    3. The Mummy

    The rest aren't worth discussing.

This basically ruined Martin Scorsese's last movie for me so yes please stop.  We know what younger Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro looked like and whatever the hell those monstrosities were onscreen was so fucking distracting.

The Prequel Trilogy still sucks. It just got the RUFFFIIIOOOO boost from those who grew up watching it and don't want to admit it.

prequel trilogy only gets looked at differently now because there actually was a vision for what those movies were supposed to be(Shakespearean tragedy) even if Jorge executed them terribly.
