In '99 my gf and I were 20 and leading up to TPM's release she was obsessed with Jar Jar because she thought he was the cutest thing ever. I bought her so much Jar Jar shit. Those Taco Bell cups with the character toppers? YES! Whatever I saw that had Jar Jar's face on it, I bought it for her. Talking toys, plush toys, posters, literally everything I could find anywhere. Basically, I was the bf of the year because I satisfied her Jar Jar thirst. We broke up a few years later and I still look back and laugh wondering how long she kept all that shit and how/when she finally threw it all away.

Why would something true cause such a ruckus?

The problem is that literally every studio is going to be doing this tomorrow morning, but none of them seem like something they could replicate what Barbie just did. At best it’s another Trolls franchise?

There's an argument that could be made that at the same point in their career, i.e. two feature films and then a third big budget blockbuster - Gerwig might have more name recognition.

The problem is that it will have to ramp up to this level. Rebooting/revamping is gonna take time and so the biggest question is - will the studio let it do that?

Thinking back on it, Tomorrow Never Dies and Titanic was a pretty comparable Barbenheimer. 3 hour long romance vs James Bond action flick Both did $25m+ opening the same weekend.

I know, I just found it funny that he was the name dropped after talking about Nolan not putting sex scenes in his movie.

The huge irony here is that Tarantino's movies have featured zero boobs and almost no sex except for a couple fully-clothed throwaway scenes lasting mere seconds as funny gags. Okay, so Fonda wasn't 'fully-clothed' as she only wearing a top, but all you see is her butt.

You have to understand that there are absolutely people out there that saw the first but had no idea there was another one coming.

I think we take for granted the fact that we know everything that happens to a movie as soon as it happens. There are undoubtedly a lot of the general public that find these things out by watching talk shows and what not.

If it was Amy Schumer’s Barbie, it would have been woke because it would be Hollywood pushing a non-stereotypical Barbie and Fox News would spend hours comparing Schumer’s figure with an actual little Barbie doll and complain about why we couldn’t just get someone like Margot Robbie.
