4TH UPDATE, SATURDAY AM PT: After adding Spain and Japan on Friday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has an international cume estimated at $129.5M. Coupled with domestic, that brings the crew of the Millennium Falcon to a massive $250M worldwide in just the first three days of play. The Friday was worth $56.8Moffshore — a notch down from Jurassic World‘s first Friday of $60M this summer. But, the two films are now neck-and-neck at the same point in their runs with JW having stomped on $130M overseas through its first Friday. And that movie had China, going on to gross just over $316M for the debut frame. Initial estimates on the international debut weekend for the Resistance and the First Order ranged anywhere from $250M-$315M ahead of the release. Some industry sources are now suggesting upwards of $320M.

“It looks like Avengers did,” said one rival distribution chief, “and it’s the best that tracking can offer.” Force Awakens is strong across all men and women under/over 25 with males a tad higher.  Overall first choice is 21%, total awareness is 89%, definite awareness is 64% and unaided awareness –that part of B.O. polling that doesn’t lead respondents toward naming a specific film — is a very strong 25%.

This is the first tracking released showing the female fans ARE there....just waiting to see it.

  3.  Honestly, I feel that TFA previews being highly male skewed is a good thing.  If we remember back to the tracking reports that were posted...this was tracking only slightly higher for males then females ( it feels so odd to say male and female LOL).  What this means is that the female fans haven't even showed up in full force yet...and what happens when female fans show up?  They bring families, children, dates, girlfriends....  It's scary what's going to happen when they do

  4. Ok, finally home.  I think JJ did an excellent job and I think he made some really logical choices that people might not be thinking of based on emotion.  He really get's the characters!!!

Han's death - this is incredibly anti poetic if you think of it.  Through the series, Han has been running from emotional connections.  Why do you think he wanted to just drop Luke off in ANH and leave.  Or how he says "I know" back to Leia instead of "I love you too".  Remember how he wanted to leave right before the battle for Hoth?  We've seen throughout the series his transformation from being "Solo" to actually have friends he loved...so it's completely fitting how when he finally embraces his emotional side that it's his undoing.  On top of this, I think this is the first time he ACTUALLY listens to Leia when she says "bring our son home" instead of fighting her wishes again like he always does.

Kylo's personality -  I heard some complaints walking out of the movie theater that he was too whiny and was like a spoiled teenager.  Well, think about it this way...his father sent him off to train with his uncle at what I would suppose was a very young age.  On top of this, we have Han who again isn't "Mr emotions".  It's completely believable that Kylo would be almost a baby emotionally since he has so much resentment for his parents and no reference for how a man deals with emotions.  Also, if you think about it.....doesn't Kylo's personality somewhat echo another Jedi's personality who turned to the dark side?  Like Hayden...I mean like grandfather like grandson.

Luke - ok, we got like 20 seconds of him...but there was a lot of thought behind it.  If he "showed up" and saved Rey...do you think she would have continued down the path and have her true "awakening moment" as a Jedi?  No!  if you remember, she didn't want to initially take Luke's lightsaber and just wanted to go back to her planet and continue with just being normal.  She needed to save herself to go down the path she was destined for.   This makes the last scene so impactful. It shows her going out of her way to a remote planet in order to find Luke.  This is a complete 180...showing that she's actively "pursuing" her destiny instead of running away from it.  It's her "coming of age".

Last point is the lightsaber battles.  People are thinking "Oh, you could just pick up a lightsaber and use it". Well, if you think about it....Rey had her staff throughout  the movie and showed skill with it when she was attacked right when meeting Finn.  It's definitely believable that she would be good with a lightsaber and able to keep up with Kylo who most likely betrayed Luke before becoming adept himself.  This is why the lightsaber battles are so sloppy....so animalistic

  5. Avengers had Memorial weekend next in his run. JW won't have that luck. There is no way it comes close to the 36/47M Avengers did on his 4th weekend so the gap will be significantly smaller by next Monday.

Summer days will offset the weekend boosts for Avengers. Just look at Sunday. The Avengers beat JW on every single day this weekend except Sunday. It should also have a lower % drop Monday. That's how it'll be from now on. JW will pull away on weekdays and be reeled in on weekends. It's just how much will it lose to TA is what's the key question.

  6. Let's put this in perspective.

    JW drop 2nd Monday from Father's Day - 69.5%

    TA1 drop 2nd Monday from a normal Day - 74.4%

Now TA1 did have kids in school, but JW's weekends aren't playing so far like a normal summer film...so it should continue to pull away and puts it in a great position for 650m+

  7. As PDC mentioned, TDK was in the middle of July. But also, Jurassic World will not decrease 16.3% on Sunday - it is Father's Day, so it will hold flat or decrease very slightly on the Sunday.

    Peace,

    Mike

I didn't think it would do that. I was adding on to this comment by me:

Why TDK? It had an awful increase on Fri and Sat and an ok drop on Sun

    In response to this:

If it follows TDK 2nd weekend then things get interesting lol
