the way a dead woman and her memories affects her past acquaintances in different ways. quite a strange film, and among his other films perhaps closest in tone to vertigo. a little overlong, especially during the investigation. wonderful visuals and the late romantic era music is luscious.

Quite enjoyable, though I wish the Hitchcock version didn't have to be so sanitized from the book. As much as I love this film, it's so weird to think of it as a Best Picture winner.

 

Laurence Olivier :wub:  One of the all-time great talent to looks ratio for a movie star.
