An absolute disaster in every sense of the word. It honestly feels to me that Adam Wingard didn't give a shit about the source material. He brought a lot a flare to it with the visual style but barely anything else besides that. One of the most disappointing films I've ever had to sit through

Death Note is bizarre in how terrible it gets. Nonsensically plotted and trafficking in cliches that don't even fit the genre it's going for, it's the type of bad movie that never gets you bored. The cinematography is hideous, the direction is confused, and the cast is almost entirely horrendous. However, Stanfield really elevates the role of L, making him captivating in a sincere way. Whigham also does a decent job, but he's saddled with a lot of silly scenes. The CGI is disturbingly awful, and honestly, Netflix should've seen the dailies on this movie and pulled the plug. Death Note is a downright atrocious movie with the exception of a few strong performances, but that's not enough to justify this adaptation. Just stop with the anime adaptations, Hollywood. Please. D-
