Hiccup23
Friday, March 1st Earth Defense Force shatters the box office with 64.3M. After months without a major blockbuster this opening over $60M is no surprise. Tracking increased throughout the upcoming weeks. Earth Defense Force received mostly positive reviews and a B+ rating from audiences. It shouldn’t fall off as harshly as most blockbusters due to the unusually dead March. Livestream held well with a -37.5% drop. While still far behind initial predictions, Livestream is holding up surprisingly well. Nerdy opened with $4.5M and received mostly negative reviews. Families opted for the more positive My Peoples which dropped to $14.4M. My Peoples chances at $200 million are dead however it will lock a finish over $175M. Big win for the studio. Earth Defense Force – $64,345,890 million My Peoples- 14,410,733 million Livestream- $6,451,567 million (-37.5%) Nerdy - $4,456,011 million Father- $2,710,473 million Dark Side- $1,798,348 million Voltron: Rise of Lotor- $1,559,822 million And the Band Played On- $1,110,457 million The Parvelli Reunion- $1,099,511 million From Earth to Infinity: An Odyssey Through Space- $902,481 million Friday, March 8th Earth Defense Force dropped -54.8% to $29.1M. It should stabilize in the weeks to come. 2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers didn’t pull in audiences and opened with $9.1M. Audiences appear to be saving their money for the upcoming major tentpoles. Earth Defense Force-$29,054,220 million (-54.8%) My Peoples- $9,702,200 million 2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers - $9,125,146 million Livestream- $4,090,052 million Nerdy- $2,514,393 million (-43.6%) Father- $1,391,114 million Voltron: Rise of Lotor- $1,117,239 million And the Band Played On- $1,009,744 million The Parvelli Reunion- $855,249 million Dark Side- $831,445 million Friday, March 15th Student Film shocked forecasters by opening with a strong $28.0M. Reviews were positive and audiences for clearly up for a feel good film. Audiences gave the film an A rating and look for it to be a surprise hit with a leggy run. SoulCalibur opened with a disappointing $17.9M, which is slightly lower than expected. Its future is less secure than Student Film. Earth Defense Force dropped to $15.4M as it lost audiences to SoulCalibur and Student Film. Student Film - $27,973,123 million SoulCalibur - $17,900,384 million Earth Defense Force- $15,423,337 million My Peoples- $5,562,229 million 2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers- $4,500,117 million (-50.7%) Livestream- $2,624,274 million Nerdy- $1,280,005 million And the Band Played On- $887,206 million Voltron: Rise of Lotor- $885,148 million Father- $765,551 million Friday, March 22nd The Bronze Bow opened with a solid $18.1M as Christian audiences folked to the better than average Biblical inspired film. It received an A from audiences and could play well until Easter weekend. Student Film however is the story of the week, holding onto #1 with $19.9M and a sexy -28.7% drop. The film has topped $50M at the box office and could reach $100M. The same can’t be said for Soul Calibur which fell -60.6% to $7.0M. The film hasn’t topped $30M yet and is sore bomb. Student Film- $19,941,164 million (-28.7%) The Bronze Bow –$18,128,346 million Earth Defense Force- $10,112,342 million SoulCalibur- $7,044,859 million (-60.6%) My Peoples- $3,395,155 million 2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers- $2,466,997 million Livestream- $1,686,991 million And the Band Played On- $1,634,100 million Voltron: Rise of Lotor- $774,239 million The Storyteller (Limited Opening) - $754,237 Friday, March 29th Lilo and Stitch sent shock waves throughout the box office world with $111.4M opening weekend. This is a massive win for animated to live action films. It also proved how a good release date mixed with months of low competition (and upcoming dead zones) can boost a film to greater heights. Lilo and Stitch earned an A- from audiences and has knocked My Peoples from the primary family film. Lilo and Stitch is the highest opening of the animated classics to live action adoptions and could beat out the much anticipated Prince of Egypt in final numbers. We will find out in December/January. Meanwhile Student Film held well with $11.3M and the Bronze Bow dipped to $10.0M with a -44.8% drop. Lilo and Stitch – $111,430,052 million Student Film- $11,331,158 million The Bronze Bow- $10,011,323 million (-44.8%) Earth Defense Force- $4,522,050 million SoulCalibur- $3,115,333 milion The Storyteller- $2,736,195 million The Parvelli Reunion- $1,365,204 million 2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers- $1,275,601 million And the Band Played On- $1,198,458 million My Peoples- $1,181,600 million 1

YM!
I’m thinking a $95M/$275M rum for Cataclysmic. I’m concerned about Battletoads after how big Stitch was but then again, other than maybe Homeward, it has an easy run until Dan The Alpaca. Battletoads may be the only thing purely servicing families come Memorial Day. Spark will have a lot of kid/family appeal, but as a PG-13 movie, it's limited there too. Zoldar is too weird for families, and Bioshock/God of War aren't gonna be kid friendly at all.
