IM NOT SCARED

TO BE FREE

I MAKE NO APOLOGIES

THIS IS THE OTHERSPACE

(Yeah disappointing opening but those legs are DAMN.)

Okay let me break it down.

Realistically, NFOS wouldn't probably do well. It would be too deep and artistic for mainstream audiences. The only possible way it could make cash was if it opened low and got great word of mouth. That is my explanation for why I went that direction. Also while the film is fantastic, marketing it would be a nightmare. Audience need to see the entire film to appreciate it and then spread the word. Yes, I did pull from the GSM a lot but sue me. ;)

Friday, August 30th (4-day Labor Day Weekend)

Life of the Prophet was lost in the shuffle with only opening with $7.6M and $8.9M over the long weekend. The Howling and Notes from the Otherspace continue to steal the spotlight. The Howling earned $13.6M over the long weekend and Notes from the Otherspace pulled $12.0M.

  1. Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad- $17,545,003 million/$21,138,169 million (-45.0%)
  2. The Howling- $11,256,738 million/$13,561,445 million
  3. Notes from the Otherspace- $10,002,593 million/$12,048,927 million
  4. The Life of a Prophet - $7,558,116 million/$8,901,793 million
  5. Gamera- $4,414,942 million/$5,318,072 million
  6. Things Fall Apart- $4,399,351 million/$5,300,686 million
  7. Miraculous- $3,135,461 million/$3,772,007 million
  8. The Scavenger Wars- $3,047,128 million/$3,672,222 million
  9. Gentle Ben- $1,432,431 million/$1,725,920 million
  10. The Odyssey: The Counsel of the Dead: $1,002,460 million/$1,207,229 million

Most movies that aren't in their second week would not drop that hard on Labor Day.

Most would have minimal drops if any at all.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. It’s hard to tell if it would be marketed more as a cartoon-based comedy or a drama about depression and anxiety, so it would be pretty tough.

I’d much rather have a small opening and a leggy run, and man this thing’s performing like an 80s movie. I wonder if it can reach a 10x multiplier.

I agree. The only films that didn’t drop more than 30% were Odyssey (which acted like it gained theatres that Friday) and Otherspace (which is clearly on its own plane).

Surprised at Gamera not doing so hot.

Eh, it's kind of an international play anyway. TBH if I don't get to do a sequel to the giant flying fire-breathing turtle movie I won't exactly be devastated.

Howling II is definitely on now though :P

And the rest tomorrow?

No, I was off yesterday. I had time to do a bunch. Probably won't be finished until Sunday because nothing will drop Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
