Scream (2022)

I really loved all of this.  I liked that the movie knew exactly what it was, and who it was aimed for.  It didn't try to do any more or any less.  That worked for me.  It's Scream.  It's supposed to be a meta slasher comedy about teens murdering each other; and that's what we got.  I DIED at the Rian Johnson directed Stab 8 and ruined my childhood gag.  That was perfection.  Utter perfection.

 

There's talk in the movie about how slasher films are just empty vessels for blood and cool killers, whereas elevated horror has meaning -- I liked that Scream goes against that.  Maybe it's cause there's been five of them, but what really got me was how many woman are on screen, and their relationships with each other, and how they talked about their trauma of surviving a horror movie.  Some really nice moments there.

And I'm glad it was the boyfriend.  Cause it's ALWAYS the boyfriend.  When he got slashed in the arm the same way Stu did in Scream 1, I was like AW YES HEY KILLER.  I didn't get who #2 was until the end.

I feel pretty much exactly the same as you @Cap.....and yes, I too figured out one of the killers but not the other until the end.

Undoubtedly the worst continuation of the saga, which does not mean that it is fundamentally bad. But it is difficult to find what made the charm of the previous opuses.

finally caught up with this. weakest of the series for me. just felt uninspired, going through the motions. didn't care about any of the new characters, killers were boring.
