Collectively, this first wave of markets opened in-line with genre pics Conjuring 2, Annabelle Comes Home and Insidious: The Red Door, and more than double M3GAN in the same markets.

 

Other market highlights include the biggest horror opening day of all time in Chile, Peru and Uruguay; top Blumhouse debut ever in 16 markets (Germany, Brazil, Australia, Argentina, Netherlands, New Zealand, Bolivia, Chile, Central America, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Sweden, Norway; and a very close No.2 in Mexico); and top opening day of 2023 in Ukraine.

 

At current weekend estimates, this is the biggest horror opening weekend ever in Peru, Chile, Poland, Ukraine and Finland. It is also the top horror start of 2023 in Mexico, UK, Australia, Chile, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Peru, New Zealand, Ecuador, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Ukraine and Denmark.

 

And, Freddy’s is set to be the best opening weekend ever for Blumhouse in Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Peru, New Zealand, Ecuador, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Ukraine and Denmark

Overseas / global

This weekend, Freddy’s declined -54% in overseas holdover markets, a notably milder figure than its -76% domestic drop.

Freddy’s has earned $103.5M overseas and $217.1M globally, or 47% overseas.

It could become the top horror globally for 2023, a title currently held by The Nun II with $265.8M to date. (That film looks likely to top out somewhere around $270M or so.)

Last weekend, Freddy’s marked the top horror global opening of 2023 so far, more than +40% above The Nun II, which opened with $88.1M.

Freddy’s top five market totals to date are:

  1. Mexico: $16.8M
  2. U.K. $10.5M
  3. Brazil: $7.7M
  4. Australia: $6.5M
  5. Spain: $5.0M

Major markets yet to release include France, South Korea, and Japan.

This is now the biggest Blumhouse film in 29 markets including Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Chile, Peru, Central America and Ukraine.

 

The Emma Tammi-directed horror pic added 11 new hubs this session. Spain saw the biggest opening Wednesday and biggest horror opening day ever as well as the top opening day of 2023. The weekend was good for $5M including previews, giving FNAF the biggest launch weekend for a Blumhouse title, and the second-biggest opening for a horror movie as well as the top studio opening for a horror movie ever. Excluding previews, the result is above The Nun 2Conjuring 2Annabelle Comes Home and more than double Halloween. The cume for FNAF at the end of the first frame surpassed the entire lifetimes of Insidious: The Red DoorGet Out, Annabelle, Halloween, M3GAN and The Black Phone.

 

Italy also had a huge start with $4M to top the total lifetimes of Halloween, all Annabelle films and M3GAN; and claiming the biggest Blumhouse opening of all time. The debut excluding previews is above The NunThe Nun 2 and more than double all other key comps.

 

In Belgium, Freddy’s scored $900K at No. 1 for the top Blumhouse start ever and overtaking the lifetimes of Lights Out and The Black Phone. In the Philippines, $625K made for the best opening ever for a Universal horror film. At $608K, Portugal claimed the biggest Blumhouse opening of all time including previews, and the third-biggest horror start ever. 

 

The Top 5 markets after two frames are Mexico ($16.9M), the UK ($10.6M), Brazil ($7.7M), Australia ($6.5M) and Germany ($5M). Still on deck are France and Korea this month, and Japan in February 2024.

With $271.8M globally through today, Universal/Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s has topped The Nun 2 to become the highest grossing horror film of 2023.

 

Freddy and the gang added $9.9M from 78 overseas markets this session, a 52% drop from the last. The offshore cume is now $139.2M, performing in line with The Nun 2 and The Conjuring 2 and above Annabelle Comes Home and Insidious: The Red Door at the same point in the same markets. 

 

It’s surpassed the lifetime of Glass to become the second biggest Blumhouse title ever internationally (it’s already Blumhouse’s No. 2 film worldwide, behind Split). 

 

Korea was the new entry in the frame, debuting to $2.5M for the best Hollywood horror opening of the year. It was game at No. 1 with the biggest Blumhouse bow of the pandemic era. The launch is above Annabelle Comes HomeInsidious Red Door and The Nun 2.

 

Top Five markets to date are Mexico ($20.7M), the UK ($12.5M), Brazil ($10M), Australia ($8.4M) and Spain ($7.2M)
