DOFP's admin from the opening Thu to its first sunday was 1.75M. It now depends on how it holds against Park Chan-Wook's R-rated Cannes entry the Handmaiden on week 2. and then Warcraft, The Conjuring 2 and TJB all open the week after. DOFP had a relatively mild competition in week 2 (Maleficent and another Korean movie opened/expanded soft.) then Edge of Tomorrow stole most of its audience on week 3 and by then it had almost done 4M. If APOC falters the Handmaiden its total would be in 3M range. Park's Lady Vengeance, which would be the best comparison for the Handmaiden, opened to roughly about a 1M frame and that was 10 years ago. The Dark-knight trilogy was popular but then that was from Christopher Nolan who has a cult status here. And compared to BvS First Class had a more well-known, well-established cast. (to the Korean audience) JLaw had yet to really broke out but Jackman, McAvoy, Fassbender and Hoult, all big enough names then, whereas BvS only had Affleck. yjs Posted June 1, 2016 Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) just back from the Handmaiden matinee at 3PM and it was almost a full house! and it was quite entertaining too. more light, fun adaptation of Fingersmith. although there were a group of middle-aged to old women who were drawn by the Cannes bait and got offended by the graphic homosexual scenes at my screening. wonder how it will affect the WOM. still seeing it do well, especially for a Park Chan-Wook film.
