Personnally I don't have problems with Chinese exports, you can export no problem..But please guys, buy more foreign products, that would be helpful for us (Europe/USA) and for you.

If China is ruled by ordinary people ,that will come ture immediately, but in fact China is ruled by many powerful famillies. They owned a lot of companies which are competitors of yours(they actually don't know the importance of free trade).

China Box Office Weekly (5.21~5.27) Report

Firedeep, May 27th 19:30pm (GMT+8) updates:

Men in Black 3 Knocks The Avengers Down, Setting New 3-days Opening Record

Sony and Will Smith's sci-fi comedy tentpole Men In Black 3 blowed into China theatres Thursday midnight. And after a strong 3M+ yuan midnight performance and an average Friday matinee shows, MIB3 started to pick up with evening. Overally, it collected about 40M yuan on Friday (7th biggest OD, Thursday midnight included), followed by an excellent 65M yuan Saturday (#4 biggest Saturday, only after TF3 112M, Titanic 3D 107M and TA 66M). It also holds well on Sunday (estimated at 50M yuan, also #4 biggest). All after all, the Will Smith film grossed about 155M yuan via its 3 days opening, which means it has officially overtaken the 3-days opening week record from the hand of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (145M yuan, $22M), which was also the May opening record in China. The Johnny Depp movie opened last May 20th. Debuting very close to our early prediction, MIB3 once again proved the Super Star power of Will Smith. Noting the movie received an average 8.5 rating on Mtime.com and barely no major competition until Madagascar 3 (June 8th), we can expect some solid legs. That is to say, 500M yuan ($80M) total is right in the range, which should comfortably win it a place on the yearly top 10 chart.

Losing most of its 3D screens to MIB3, Marvel's the Avengers down about 60% from last week to an estimated 50M yuan ($8M). The super big action flick now stands at about 510M yuan ($81M)after 4 weekends' ran. Movie is looking for a 550M yuan ($87M) end.

Weekly (5.21~5.27) Box Office top 5:

1. Men in Black 3 155M yuan ($24.5M) New total: 155M yuan ($24.5M) [10th biggest all time opening]

2. Marvel's The Avengers 50M yuan -60% ($8M) total: 510M yuan ($80.8M)

3. The Three Musketeers 7.5M yuan -70% ($1.18M) total: 32.5M yuan ($5.15M)

4. The Grey 9.6M yuan -40% ($1.5M) total: 25.6M yuan ($4.05M)

5. Titanic 3D 4.0M yuan -60% ($0.63M) total: 975M yuan ($154.5M)

Official revised numbers will be available Tuesday afternoon, please make sure to check in.

China saves the world..2012 was right after all...

If China is an ordinary country ,that may become true.In fact most western directors ,movie and television stars ,writers and singers have much more fans in China than they thought .So do many western companies .

MIB3 has a good opening.

But the second half of May in 2012 is weaker than 2011, it's not a good phenomenon.

The summer of 2012 might be disappointing.

Protectionism should go to heaven! :D

Are you sure it's protectionism this time? I mean the Chinese economy slows strongly this year, maybe it's the reason? So what are the expectations for MIB3 in China? $70-80m?

Now there are only 20 annual revenue-sharing movies and 14 3D or IMAX revenue-sharing movies and dozens of buy-out movies which could be released in China in one year.Other countries import hundreds of foreign movies in one year.So the reason is always protectionism.MIB3 could make about $80m in total.

No, it wont. No chance if only 20M is reported. You know why...

In case some one got confused about the China box office number:

A. Sunday studio number, aka Chinese official Sunday estimates

< B. Tuesday studio revised number, the final one will be used by BOM or SD(on Thursday)

< C. Tuesday Chinese official revised number, the SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) number, the one we use on the first page of this thread

< D. firedeep/BO forums members from China Sunday number according to online ticket sale or CFDEA (CHINA FILM DISTRIBUTION AND EXHIBITION ASSOCIATION)

< E. actual/real number

Usually, the gap between A and B is at least 2M but it could go much higher, like Titanic 3D (about 10M); gap between B and C usually under 2M, but could go much higher too; gap between C and D could be very close but also could be big, like 7M (Titanic 3D, again); gap between D and E is usually about 10% of the opening gross for big hollywood films (In the case of Titanic 3D, it's about $10M).

To Titanic 3D, for example, the opening Sunday midnight we estimated it at $81M (510M yuan) but then very soon the FOX number (via BOM, THR, Variety and so on) came at only $58M. That was a huge gap. On Tuesday, Fox revised the number to $67M, which never changed again. Meanwhile, the Chinese official Tuesday number came at 468M yuan (exactly 74M in $). Though the actual opening of Titanic 3D in China should be more than 530M yuan ($84M), that could never be known.

So China is now the first OS market for The Avengers, nice :D

That is expected. China is becoming the #1 OS market for most hollywood films, except for animations.

Say me, what do you expect in China for Spiderman, Batman and The Hobbit? Can we expect one of them beating Titanic 3D?

If TASM turns out to be an awesome movie, it will beat Titanic 3D.If TDKR equals TDK in terms of quality, it could beat Titanic 3D.The Hobbit was born to outgross Titanic 3D, even no arguments there.

You are so sure about The Hobbit..The Lord of the Ring is so famous there? I hope for Spiderman, such a success in China would be great for the OS numbers.

How did you come up with 25M ??

Even MIB3's average attendance per show in OW was lower than 55, it got more than 72,000 shows in 3 days(more than 24,000 shows in one day, highest ever for single movie)! Edited by SentryTrans
