Accursed Arachnid!™
Counting down my favorite James Bond film scores(not title songs) from 22 to 1( not including Skyfall) and including my favorite tracks from each. Feel free to agree/disagree or offer your own lists. Let me make it clear there is not one Bond score I hate. So 22nd is not the "worst" it's just the 22nd best. 22. Live and Let Die by George Martin. A decent introduction score for Roger Moore. But other than Wings' theme, there isn't much here. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3uYJhKdgIs 21. Dr. No by Monty Norman and John Barry There just isn't much to this score except the classic theme, but it is the introduction of it, so there's no way it deserves to be last. Accursed Arachnid!™
20. Diamonds are Forever by John Barry .This is my least favorite film after Moonraker and Tomorrow Never Dies, and the rehashed score from Barry doesn't help. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-NrhVI4mO0 19. Octopussy by John Barry Barry, sure. But this one just has that feeling of "been there, done that". Accursed Arachnid!™
18. Moonraker by John Barry Other than the space track, not much Barry could do with this. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IKahbz75xo 17. Goldeneye by Eric Serra Yeah, it's dated now. Not a whole lot of classic here. But it was a refreshing change of pace and fits with the film's irreverent reverence(if that term existed). Accursed Arachnid!™
16. The Man with the Golden Gun by John Barry Not Barry's best work, but oh that theme. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=39i8dqlg7Mw 15. Quantum of Solace by David Arnold Arnold has done better, much better, but maybe he could only do so much with the material. Accursed Arachnid!™
14. Tomorrow Never Dies by David Arnold The great experiment. I appreciate Arnold's very sincere attempt to pay homage to Barry while keeping with the techno score that Goldeneye established for Brosnan, and for the most part he succeeds. However, he has more success later. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjhYdOVJ1qQ 13. Die Another Day by David Arnold Third Arnold in a row. He really pulled out all the stops with DAD. Regardless of how you feel about the film, the unevenness of it gave Arnold the opportunity to go from dark to fun. Accursed Arachnid!™
12. From Russia with Love by John Barry Ah, the introduction of the Bond action cue. Awesome, yet Barry had better work ahead of him. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6T0HZFLRGs 11. A View to a Kill by John Barry Say what you want about the film, the score is excellent. Goffe
the best track until now is Die Another Day and Moonrakerand from 0:43 to 1:00 of Live and Let Die is best moment so far
Accursed Arachnid!™
10. The World is not Enough by David Arnold Arnold hit his stride with his second entry. Less techno and more classic orchestra. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUyKsK8UCRM 9. For Your Eyes Only by Bill Conti Rocky composer took a break to score a Bond film and a classic score was the result. It's a bit dated, but fun, fun, fun. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax5scn5KhOY (You may know this theme from the "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" show in the 80's.) Accursed Arachnid!™
8. The Spy Who Loved Me by Marvin Hamlisch Three ski scenes in a row(They should have one in every Bond film, IMO). Hamlisch's score is funky, eclectic and fits the movie to a tee. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVSoOiBHOVc 7. Thunderball by John Barry Here comes a lot of Barry as appropriately he dominates the top of my list. Thunderball is epic, epic epic. Accursed Arachnid!™
6. You Only Live Twice by John Barry Always had an affinity for this score. It may not be as epic as others by Barry, but the Japanese and space elements give it a much different flavor. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnupOcB6JY4 5. Licence to Kill by Michael Kamen Top Five! This one may throw you, but listen to the score, not the chopped up, rehashed version in the film. It's dark, it's contemporary, it's Kamen. Accursed Arachnid!™
4. The Living Daylights by John Barry Barry nearly saved the best for last with this one. With his final Bond score, he goes out with a bang(But he had much more left in him as Dances with Wolves and Chaplin can attest). Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kJ-lTiKFhE 3. Goldfinger by John Barry Classic movie, classic score. 'Nuff said. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnW-8YpQpgQ
Accursed Arachnid!™
2. Casino Royale by David Arnold Arnold sheds the Brosnan era and fully embraces Craig's. Love this. Favorite track: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnT1x6bYsmo 1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service by John Barry Best. Bond. Score. Ever. The theme, the beach, the ski chase, the retreat, the office, the love theme. It's all so goooood. Accursed Arachnid!™
Incredible action track that never lets up. 0:30 onwards on the latter is glorious, we don't get moments like that very often anymore. Please bring back Arnold.I love listening to the extensive interview with him on the extended version of the TMD soundtrack. While that soundtrack was nowhere near perfect, I really liked where his head was at and that he was both a Bond and Barry fan. I consider TMD-TWINE-DAD to be his training for CR. But even Barry took one film breaks in his long run on the Bond films. I'm sure Arnold will be back for the next one.
4815162342
AA you have chosen wisely with OHMSS at #1.The Incredibles' main theme (at least part of the fanfare motif) is a direct homage to OHMSS' theme which is cool.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4au8cH3FHA Edited November 9, 2012 by 4815162342
Accursed Arachnid!™
I haven't listened to the score separate from the film, but Thomas Newman seems to have done a good job with Skyfall. I actually heard some Arnold "techno" in there.
ddddeeee
It served the film well enough but it'd overall dull and bland IMO. Striking lack of themes.
Bond Bug
Give me John Barry any day!.He could make bad movies into something special - for example, Raise the Titantic or Somewhere in Time.So I would have to go for a John Barry Bond score - Octopussy.OHMSS - I have just heard that too many times, but it is a great score.
