I genuinely enjoy this one and think it's a great bit of storytelling. Sure, some of the performances aren't all that, but they do manage to take a completely preposterous premise, and present it in a completely believable manner. I really like the backstory, and the description of events as told by Powers Booth are excellent, and fun to imagine the situation outside of the events portrayed in the movie. Very nice use of the excerpt from the Gettysburg Address at the end of the movie with the monument to the Wolverines. Used to get chills from that. It's a movie that's firmly entrenched in its era and it shows, but it's still good fun, reasonably thought-provoking, and I still enjoy watching it some 28 years (holy crap, I'm old!) later.A-
