KathNiel
Major new releases for today are Despicable Me 3 and local film, Can We Still Be Friends. Based on sureseats, DM3 seems to be not as strong as Minions and DM2. School has already started, so this is more of a weekend fare. But hype is not as loud as the spin-off and the first sequel. Can We Still Be Friends is doing okay, 182/440 sold for the 5:55PM screening at Trinoma. 8:55PM - 278/440 Alabang Town Center 6:00PM - 71/170 8:30PM - 68/170 Greenbelt 1 6:20PM - 177/199 8:45PM - 162/199 Abreeza 6:25PM - 103/201 9:00PM - 98/201 Marquee 6:50PM - 74/201 9:15 - 39/201 Market Market 7:05PM - 114/361 9:30PM - 108/361 Ayala Center Cebu 7:05PM - 67/169 9:30PM - 58/169 Harbor Point 7:10PM - 125/221 9:30PM - 84/221 Fairview Terraces 7:15PM - 68/200 9:45PM - 37/200 Glorietta 4 7:30PM - 279/321 10:00PM - 127/321 Wonder Woman Greenbelt 3 7:30PM - 164/165 Trinoma 7:55PM - 223/398 7:55PM - 4/12 Alabang Town Center 8:30PM - 168/378 Marquee 9:15PM - 49/211 Ayala Center Cebu 9:15PM - 132/163 Harbor Point 9:30PM - 74/205 Market Market 9:30PM - 79/336 Fairview Terraces 9:45PM - 66/300 Glorietta 4 10:00PM - 164/339 Trinoma 10:55PM - 111/398 Missed a number of WW screenings after 7:30PM, when I started tracking; the second 9:15PM screening of Ayala Center Cebu, 9:30PM in Abreeza, Greenbelt 3's 10:20PM, and the 12-seater 10:55PM in Trinoma . KathNiel
Did some tracking at Trinoma for the last two screenings of CWSBF, DM2(2 cinemas), and WW. CWSBF is doing bad, while WW is holding well. Minions' OW was PHP189M and PHP125.7M for DM2. Edited June 16, 2017 by KathNiel
KathNiel
DM3 was selling out last weekend, but not enough to earn more than 100M on its opening weekend. An estimate of $2M per Deadline, actuals might end up higher. That's the fourth highest grossing OW for an animated movie behind Minions, DM2, and Finding Dory. Another sub-100M total for a Star Cinema production, CWSBF could have opened lower than the third weekend of Wonder Woman. Opening this weekend is Transformers 5. forg
“DESPICABLE ME 3” OPENS AT NO.1, GROSSES P93.6M, the Biggest Opening Weekend for an animated title in 2017via press releaseMANILA, June 19, 2017 – Universal Pictures and Illumination's new comedy adventure Despicable Me 3 ran off with a nationwide box-office haul of P93.6-M to open a No.1 and grab the biggest opening weekend for an animated title in 2017.Bowing two weeks earlier in the Philippines ahead of the US, Despicable Me 3 proved to be a worthy successor to its previous two blockbuster installments, reinforcing its formidable brand as a family franchise. Its successful launch in PH is the biggest in the region, grossing more than in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.Getting the lion's share of box-office grosses are SM Mall of Asia, Trinoma and SM Megamall. In fourth to tenth rankings are SM North Edsa, Glorietta IV, Powerplant, Greenbelt III, Alabang Town Center, Fairview Terraces and SM Southmall.Rounding up the top 20 (11th to 20th) are SM Baguio, SM Dasmarinas, Robinsons Magnolia, Fisher Mall, SM Marikina, SM Fairview, Eastwood, SM Clark, Shang Cineplex and Bonifacio High Street.Illumination Entertainment continues the story of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions in Despicable Me 3.After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down the latest bad guy to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother—a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps—one former super-villain will rediscover just how good it feels to be bad.Now playing across the Philippines, Despicable Me 3 is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
forg
Minions was around P189M while DM2 P125M. I felt DM3 would open lower as the McDo Happy Meal toys were not as hot as it used to be

They didn't give any dollar equivalent when they breached 500M pesos tho.
KathNiel
From DHD: All markets reporting (which does not include the UK) came in at No. 1. Rounding out the Top 10 bows after China and Korea through Friday are Russia at $2.8M on 2,460 screens, followed by Indonesia with $1.1M from 255 dates for the biggest Paramount launch day ever (the cume is $2.3M so far); Malaysia ($845K at 145 dates); Australia (2-day total $1.5M); Germany ($978K including previews on 828 screens); the Philippines with $919K on 503; Thailandat $715K including previews; and Hong Kong at $504K after Day 1 at No. 1. I'm just not sure if the PH gross is for its opening or gross after three days, that's so low if it's the latter.
kaijukurt
Opening day most likely. No way a film like that grosses that low here.

With an opening weekend of $3.3M, it is possible that it grossed less than $1M after three days. That's a 33% drop from the fourth and only above the first movie in 2007. Yikes! Despicable Me 2 - $3.1M after 10 days..
KathNiel
Lucky for Transformers, they could be the default movie-to-watch this week again. No big openers until Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 6th. Same. At least for DM3, the lack of hype was noticeable because of McDonalds. Minions Happy Meals were always sold out then. Lol. Btw, actuals for DM3 puts it at $2.7M as of Sunday. I'm not sure if T5's est holds.
