The show was entertaining but needed some help. The Darth Vader scenes, all of them, were great. This show did have some issues though. It's still better than the ST. It's not Mando though. That's for sure.
SpoilerI really wish when Obi-Wan was in the ditch that Vader said "I have the high ground."

I'm calling it now. This is by far one of the most impressive post-Covid runs, and would be impressive regardless of when it released. Even if it came out in 2019 this run would be amazing.

I think there is actually a simpler trend here. It isn't so much that hoards of parents think "oh, I don't want my child watching that!" as much as its hoards of parents opening Yahoo.com and seeing the words "Lightyear" and "controversy" in the same sentence and their natural enthusiasm level declining significantly.I think you're overthinking this.

I think the gay moment had very little BO effect. Openly gay people are everywhere these days and is pretty accepted except by a handful of people. Not enough to have a large impact on Lightyear. I guess if I'm being very generous we could say $5M OW, but I feel that is being very generous. I think $1-$2M max is the impact the gay moment had. And, even if it opened to $56M, that still would be shitty.

The Flasher
I looked more into this. I guess just a couple of days ago they solicited it to comic stores, so very recently. Then, there is a report from yesterday that the comic is being pulled. Crazy.

What the FUCK! This is the actual cover of The Flash movie prequel comic. This comic is supposedly coming out soon.

Also, Onwards was pretty much straight to D+. Hardly anyone caught it in theaters. So, it's been more like 4 Pixar films in a row have gone to D+

How can anyone paying attention to anything box office wise think anything other than the theatrical experience is back in a MAJOR way. I think it is simply a matter of time until studios abolish these ridiculous "45 day window" type of things altogether. I think that, similar to the monumental shift from mid 2007 to mid 2008, pop culture had changed GREATLY since pre-covid days. Concepts that may have been a slam dunk pre-covid (The Batman, Lightyear, etc) are ben revealed to have less appeal than anticipated. Others are showing to be far more popular than expected.
A number of technological, economic, and political factors have converged to adjust mainstream pop cultures appetite a bit, I think. Among other reasons, I think Lightyear is paying for not having Tim Allen in there. I think Lightyear is paying - to an extent - for forcing the controversial kiss in the film. I think Top Gun heavily benefited from its straight up "modern American military!" theme. We have seen Johnny Depp's status improve greatly.
I think 2022, so far, has been year that the pushback against forced virtue signaling has eclipsed whatever demand for it there was, and it's showing itself in some interesting ways.
I do think BO is back, at least major tentpole event films. I don't think getting rid of the 45-day window is the way to go though. The window should be more flexible though, and there is a lot of stuff that isn't doing well.

Pixar is going through a transition period and TBH it's very hard to maintain very high standards , even Walt Disney in his prime didn't manage it. I'm not worried because studios go through these phases and you need a few flops to get a sense of perpective.
I'm not sure it is Pixar that is entirely to blame for Lightyear flopping. I am sure a lot of this falls at Chapek's feet.

On the bright side, Lightyear underperforming probably means Disney is going to promote Thor even more.
-
On the bright side, TGM is doing well which I think shows that moviegoing isn't dead, but perhaps for family movies, families will wait it out. Could be that movies that are an experience to see in a theater are what do well such as TGM and MCU movies.

People are acting as if Lightyear will kill off Pixar which is a bit ridiculous.
But, it pushes more and more of their films to go to D+ which also affects the budgets of said films.

I mean unless the allegations can be proven to be totally false there's not a lot of ways to spin "Hey hey it's me, the child predator!"
This!
Having a child predator be the face of your movie is the worse possible thing that could happen. It doesn't really get much worse than that. And, trust me, when the movie gets closer to release, if child predator allegations are still out there, that's all that will be talked about, and it will make WB really bad for releasing the movie in the first place. Some people suggested recasting him for the final scene or kill him off at the end. Honestly, they may need to recast him completely and reshoot his scenes. That's no joke. WB knows they can't have a child predator as the lead of their movie.

There's always the possibility that people just didn't want to watch this specific film, at least in theaters, and not necessarily that they don't want to watch Pixar films in general at the theater.
Even if true, this is an absurd drop for a TS spin-off.

This is a bad, bad number for a TS spin-off, and pretty bad for Pixar in general.

This story is starting to catch wind. I see more and more people posting about Ezra on social media.

This is something I still don't understand. Who in their right mind thought debuting new episodes of your 2 biggest franchises on the same day was a good idea?? It inevitably just mean one gets overlooked as the "water cooler" talk sways to the larger series. Just a stupid decision, IMO.
I think they thought having two big shows would compliment each other, but I don't believe that at all. I think from now on, Disney should aim to have their live action shows not overlapping. She-Hulk isn't until September, I think. They could have simply waited for Obi-Wan to finish and then start this the week after. I guess the real issue is going to be Andor. Isn't it's first season like 12-episodes?

I think it's good we're getting new characters in Disney +. I think last year they should have had a mix of old and new rather than just giving all B-listers their own show, Wanda, Falcon, Loki, Hawkeye. This year, I think every or almost every show is going to be a new character.

So, is Morbius going to end up becoming the superhero version of Rokcy Horror/The Room. It sure seems that way. Anyway, I can't believe the following this has gained. It was probably the only SH I outright hated.

At this point, Ezra is done, more and more news outlets are picking up on this story. Just give it a few more days, and it's going to explode.

NWH just released in pandemic and almost grossed 2B without China. I find it hard to believe that MCU has peaked. Even DS:MoM opened ~190M and would have easily crossed 200M OW and much bigger total if reception was great. Only 1-2 movies have been a disappointment because of mixed to poor reception. Not to mention there's no Avengers movie yet
Secret Wars could very well challenge End Game's OW

Anyway, what are the odds we get a Top Gun 3 at this point? I think 95%.

I mean I get they are trying to go anti-hero here like with Venom and having an animal hunter makes him straight up a bad guy, but that is who Kraven is. Ehh, whatever. The only good live-action Spidey films they have made since Spider-Man 2 have all been produced by Marvel. Honestly, I fear now that NWH exploded, Sony is going to go off and make stupid live-action spider-verse spin-off movies. I have nothing against that. It's just Sony has a shit track record with their Spider-Man property.
