Its top 3 batman movies so it will always be compared to it. Are we not supposed to compare batman movies to each other?
TDK is an outlier. It's the best CBM movie ever made, so topping it is highly unlikely

It's going to be fun to revisit this post in 8-12 months.
He's right. Moviegoing habits have changed. NWH made bank last year, but only one other film managed to break $200m domestic. Grosses will be better overall this year, but it's not going to be enough. The writing has been on the wall for some time.

The Scream franchise just went from $38 million to $80 million domestically film to film, pre-COVID to during COVID. The poorly reviewed, available for free on Peacock Marry Me still just did nearly $11 million in 4 days. Theaters are bouncing back, and going to the movies will be a standard activity again soon enough.
A date night movie making $11m during Valentine's weekend is peanuts. Sure, if say it opened a week later, it would be an okay opening, and come on no one has Peacock.

I've always said $200+ OW. This was always clearly going to be an event film.

Wasn't this rumored at only being 100-120 prior?
185 was TDKs budget. That 185 sounds more realistic than 100-120

I could see some of those populist movies actually being BP nominees. Avatar, BP, Toy Story 3 all got BP nominations. Avatar 2 is the most likely.

Spoiler
RIP Cad Bane. Anyway, episode was good compared to the earlier Fett episodes. Clearly, it's back to being the Mando and Grogu show though.

Wait. Did Drive My Car come out of nowhere? I had to look it up. Good to see a Japanese film get the nod though. If it's good can it magically unseat Dog?

Dog Power was the most boring film I've seen since Nomadland.
A win wouldn't be shocking.
Nomadland was boring as fuck. Haven't seen Dog. I remember a time when good films won.

10 nominees! That hasn't happened since the rule change...or did they go back to 10 nominees no matter what?

This will be settled out of court, just like the Scarlett Johansson lawsuit.
By the way, on the subject of that Reloaded discussion from the other day, is there any particular reason that movies like Reloaded and Revenge of the Sith were released on Thursdays?
I think the logic was that it would make for a longer weekend. People will see a movie, Fri-Sun anyway, but if it's a big movie like Sith, you can open Thursday, have the die hards come that day and everyone else on the weekend and report a 4-day weekend gross, essentially adding an extra day to the weekend. I mean, this is pretty much happening now, but it's reported as a three day weekend.

The voice is the biggest issue for me still. While yes it sounds like Mark Hamill from the original trilogy I'm still not convinced how much emotion can be made out of the voice. Actually it's still the biggest hurdle for CGI Luke to see if there can be a display of emotions required and not just be stoic.
If they can nail that then I'm all for having as much Luke in this time period as possible since it is an imporant period of him trying to rebuild the Jedi Order.
It also opens up the doors for certain other original trilogy characters to appear without recasts (I honestly think a Han Solo cameo is inevitable in one of these shows).
SpoilerYup. The voice needs work. It just lacks emotion. Even Yoda had a range of emotion in ESB with his voice, so it's not like Jedi can't have inflection. The monotone nature of Luke's voice is rather off putting. Otherwise, the CGI is amazing. Imagine if you went back 20 years in time and said, hey look, this is what CGI looks like in the future. Anyway, LFL is getting there. But, yah, please fix the voice and add inflection and tone and emotion.

The point where Disney execs jump in and realize The Mandalorian is the superior show.
Anyway, I think Boba Fett would have been better if the Tusken stuff was the first episode, instead of the flashbacks. This episode should help ratings though
-
The only SB MCU spot would be for Strange. Disney is already treating it like an event film. I could also see an Obi-Wan spot since that is a pretty big deal as far as TV series go

$215M OW (could be higher)
$650 DOM
No idea OS

I remember there was once a time it was extraordinarily rare for a movie to get delayed. It only happened a handful of times each year. Since the Pandemic, it seems just about every week something gets delayed.

If this movie really is 175 minutes long, then I’m genuinely impressed that WB allowed Reeves to do that, considering what they did with BvS and JL. Then again, that was under Kevin Tsujihara.
EG showed you could haveca 3 hour SH movie and still make bank. Actually, a lot of successful movies tend to be longer: Titanic, LOTR trilogy, Avatar at more than 2.45 hours. Studios need to remember that more

A live action Shrek sounds like a full-on Cats level nightmare to me. I’m firmly in the ‘no thanks’ camp.
A new animated sequel though? Bring that right on.
Eh. I think live action Shrek could be fine if done right, but I do think a sequel is the better road to take. With that said, I really don't think Shrek 5 could pull off more than $500M DOM and that's assuming BO ever goes back to pre-pandemic days.

If Avatar 2 does get a China release, I believe the WW record will go down. The $4B predictions are crazy though. I am still thinking $500-$600M DOM. Avatar is a bigger OS franchise than DOM.

Holland seems the logical choice for host. Maybe Holland and Cumberbatch together to hype DS2

Finally watched this.
I don’t know what the problem is, I thought it was quite good. I know nothing about these characters but I enjoyed all of them for the most part. Not enough Ajak though.
It does slow down a bit in the middle but it was fine and I loved the whole third act.
Id say a solid B+ overall
I don't get it either. There are actually bad Marvel movies, this isn't one of them. Hell, BW was crap and that got a pass. Go figure.

I’m glad the movie is PG-13 (although I knew it was never going to be rated R), but if anything, I’m actually curious if this movie will face some backlash for being too intense for kids.
TDK really pushed the edge when that came out. And, it still is just PG-13 in name only

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS | 05.06.2022 | Disney | 4th Most Profitable Movie of 2022
in Box Office Discussion

The hype is slightly less, yes, but there is hype for this, and it's only going to grow closer to release.
My prediction $235M OW. No idea about legs, probably 3x though because I think the cameos and multiverse stuff will be huge.
